Pick-ups from today/yesterday

Yea, im a noob.

Can't really provide much c&c since they're just pretty simple pictures of simple subjects.

They're all a little over-saturated and over-exposed.

What setup are you using?

Thanks dude ..

That was my favorite one too ..

The subway tunnel was a boring picture that I tried to %@*@ up using PS Elemetns dodge/burn tools

The church was a total disaster man .. I was to accomplish something but it will never happen because of a street light and a tree .. just wanted to postednevertheless

^^^Haha! That is what I was thinking.

I was looking at some digital photography mags and they do all sorts of stuff like that (clone tooling, airbrushing, etc). Half of the things in the mag wasfake or not what they saw in the lens. As much as I or we might not be into that, it is kind of how digital photography is...

I did a couple of spot removals and didn't think of that ...

however, I dont like the color and/or angle of it .. plus the stop is just way under expose .. like I said .. very dissapointed with that picture ..

I was a happy camper and if you ask what Im doing up - Well I cant sleep and went out for a walk with my camera .. crappy pictures but I will post some later .. it was too cold outside and didnt go far about 2 blocks ...
Wow, a 10-22 for $350. I'm eying this lens right now and that price is a steal.
Tell me about it .. at 1st I thought it was a scam because the dude had a crazy voice mail talking about how to be successful, but he returned my call and brought it to me ..

Here are a couple of pictures I took this morning about 1:30am with it (canon 10-22) ..

Just played with the dodge/burn tool a bit ...

3182221419_59751d66bb_o.jpg

The picture is not black and white - Just desaturated in some areas and over saturated in others ... some probably see it as black and white with certain areas colored ..

Another one - Shot in RAW - Adjusted W/B in LR and did minimun sharpening - Pretty much straight from the Camera

Welcome to C&C

postives:

Good colors, good exposure and white balance

CC:

subway pic has too much Bicubic Sharpening or Gaussian Blur Radius is too high but I like the composition (rule of thirds with stairway and vanishing points). Second pic has good complimentary color and contrast, but I'm seeing a predictable dutch tilt in your pictures. Try different angles, dutch tilt isn'talways necessary to make things interesting. IMO

positives:

good DOF, good colors and good composition of a cake

CC:

white balance is on the high warmer side but not much, could bump up the exposure, some noise grain can be seen in the bokeh

Are you using the built in flash or external? If built in only, try taping a piece of toilet tissue in front of it. This will help diffuse andsoften the light. If external, then point it to the sky and bounce if offf the ceiling. Also, work on composition. Try different angles of thenewspaper...remember, anyone can point a camera and shoot. An artist will be creative

should i be shooting on Maunal or Auto?

what file type should i save it as RAW or just a standard JPEG?
1. Read, read, read and do more research. By a couple of Photoshop books, even the one for dummies to learn how to post process. Join forumslike these, you are who you hang out with. Constantly take pics, eventually you will discover what you feel is art and therefore develop your style and eye.

2. Manual or Auto? Auto IMO sucks, it does a poor job of white balance most of the time not too mention the restrictions in control. Learn about WhiteBalance, Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, Depth of Field etc. Once you have an understanding for what these are, then you will be ready to shoot in manual.

3. I always shoot in RAW. The more information you have, the better the image will look when it is post processed and shrunk down.

Nice! Not much CC needed here, other than I like them...great shots!

---playing with the shutter speed on a point&shoot..
It reminds me of the exploding house full of radiation from Heroes season 1.

Thanks man .. That's what I'm looking for - someone that can point stuff out to me that I can improve on ... However I don't what's BicubicSharpening or Gaussian Blur therefore I don't know what I'm looking for .....

lol .. yeap yeap .. so you already know all those pictures where a walk around the block .. you must live around there because I couldnt guess that ..

so my camera came and boy is it harder to take a pic at night than i thought it would be. i wasn't even trying to get an amazing shot, i was just trying tonot get blurriness

i'll post later or tomorrow

i need to get a tripod asap tho

btw.. do any of you ever feel stupid when your out taking pics.. more so with a tripod.. i was out by a bridge taking pics and people would slow down and stareat me like i was an alien or something.. gotta get used to it i guess

^^ I used to not anymore - But at times I do mind .. Being from a not so good neighborhood - walking around with a camera and a tripod can make me look like aherb ..

but yeah the feeling is awkward - I got over it by taking my camera everywhere and making it a habit to be like my cell phone (on me at all times) and now itslike whatever ..

today I was trying to take a moon shot (which I couldn't achieve because I don't know how to) and a couple of dudes knowing what I was doing ask"Hey are you taking a picture of the moon" with a stupid giggle underneath their breath ....

Your welcome, you got it CC is the only way all of us will get better. Don't worry, you'll be able to go to town when I post my pics...and like you Iencourage it hehe. I mentioned Bicubic Sharpening because that is how the picture looks if you resize using Bicubic Shaper (best for reduction) after thepicture has already been sharpened. Or, if your Gaussian Blur Reduction is too high in the Sharpen filter it can cause areas that are lit to becomeaccentuated. I do it a lot LOL..that's how I know

ok so here are my pics... out of 70+ these are the only 4 that you can make out
laugh.gif

i did edit them minimally on ps so you can see them better.. they were all too dark.. and i don't know what im doing on ps either
laugh.gif
... i tried

all c&c is very much welcomed.. this was my very first time using a dSLR tho so don't hate please

Ok now I'm aware where I can find both of them .. however Im still clueless to what Im looking for when I re-size them .. like you pointed it out and Icant tell what you are talking about by just looking at my pictures ..

here's a random picture like all my pictures from today

Ok man - You already know I'm not an expert but Imma try to give you some advice!!!

Stay away from the flash - I hate flash and I have yet to read up on bouncing flash
Don't center your subjects try for thirds on the picture - you don't always have to fill the viewfinder, give yourself space so you can edit/crop orwhatever and try to make them thirds
Invest on a tripod, you will hardly get good sharp pictures during nights unless you have sufficient light

Im completly new at this photo thing but would love to learn as much as I can, main problems im having
is getting crispy pics, most the pics I take seem to not be so clear. Im finding that using flash is hard so I
try and take pics with natural light. im currently using a canon xsi, its all stock for now lol..

took this one with a canon xt, was goin for the crazy lights in the back

these three i took with the canon xsi, messing w/the iso on the first one, last two i messed witht he contrast on PS

this def could have came out way clearer, is it my background? I find myself using hi iso on everything

any c/c will b appreciated
