They know exactly what they're doing. JB and Nike are all about marketing. They have folks killing each other to pay retail prices. Half of the colorways that come out now would've been called variants 10 years ago. The primary target has shifted from older guys who want OG colorways to the kids who just want "heat".
It's all about the bottom line. They'll slap on some story, make this limited, and it'll sell like hot cakes.
