Gonna try out Apple pay at Disneyland tomorrow
Gonna be interesting to see whether it works with the leather case on or any case for that matter
worst case, with a case you'll have to have your phone a 1/2 and inch closer to the reader... Other than that, I don't see any problems a case will bring.

Apple's new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus smartphones probably won't bend just sitting in the pocket of your probably-too-tight skinny jeans (Apple notes that only a handful of people have reported the new iPhones bending in their pockets). One guy, however, says his phone not only bent in his pocket, but caught fire.

An entrepreneur and business coach by the name of Phillip Lechter says his iPhone 6 bent so much in his pocket that it punctured the battery, an event that can result in a fire. Lechter and his family were riding in a rickshaw (or pedicab, as it's sometimes called) in Tucson, Ariz., when the rickshaw hit a trolley track in the road. Lechter said the impact sent him into the side of the metal rickshaw.

His iPhone 6 was in the front pocket that hit the wall, he said, and was positioned such that it was bent nearly 90 degrees and punctured the battery, even though he had a leather case on his iPhone.

When he looked down, Lechter said he noticed that his leg was on fire. He said a nearby spectator jumped into action and threw a cup of water on his leg to put the fire out. Once the fire was out, Lechter said he was able to successfully get his phone out of his pocket and throw it out of the cab without burning his fingers, though he said he experienced a pretty significant burn on his leg.

"The doctor's report described a 11.5 cm x 10.5 cm burn area on my right leg and classified the burn as second-degree with first-degree burns surrounding the area," Lechter wrote on his blog. "According to the Doctor, the burn will require cleanliness, antibiotics and pain management for treatment."

As crazy as the story seems, the video shows several spectators asking if he's OK and pouring water on the blown-up phone. "This was a surreal experience, and if it hadn't happened to me I wouldn't believe it myself," Lechter wrote. We've reached out to Apple for comment and will update this post if we hear back.

So the date trick for some apps won't work on 8.1?

nope its supposledy dead with 8.1...

@djaward Instant Hotspot

Instant Hotspot will be enabled when you update to iOS 8.1. If you are not in WiFi range, your iPad or Mac can connect to the personal hotspot on your iPhone if it is close by. The name of your iPhone will appear in the list of WiFi networks in the Settings on your iPad and WiFi menu on your Mac.

Apple iOS 8.1 To Launch Today. Here's What The Features Will Be [Updated]

Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi said that Apple iOS 8.1 will be releasing today. Apple iOS 8.1 includes bug fixes, functionality for several Continuity features, the iCloud Photo Library, Apple Pay and the return of the Camera Roll.

Continuity

Continuity lets you easily switch between your iPhone, iPad and Mac or use them together. Continuity features include Handoff, Phone Calling, Instant Hotspot and SMS from any device. Several Continuity features became available when Apple launched the Yosemite operating system for Macs last week during the new iPad event, but iOS 8.1 is required to support SMS from any device and Instant Hotspot. The Instant Hotspot and SMS support features were originally supposed to launch as part of iOS 8, but they had to be delayed until the update was released.

SMS from any device

When Apple launched OS X Mountain Lion in July 2012, it included an app called Messages. Messages is an instant messaging software app that lets users send messages to Macs, iPhones, iPads and iPhones that are compatible with iMessage. After you update to Apple iOS 8.1, you will be able to send and receive SMS/MMS text messages from your iPad or Mac. In the chat bubbles, Apple distinguishes iMessages with blue backgrounds and standard SMS messages with green backgrounds.

iCloud Photo Library

The iCloud Photo Library allows users to save pictures and videos to their iCloud account. If you have this feature enabled, smaller versions of your photos are stored on your iOS device to save storage space. Your iCloud Photo Library will be accessible through any iOS device or through the iCloud website. Apple plans to eventually sync your iCloud Photo Library with a future version of the Photos app for Macs so you will be able to easily view your photos stored in the cloud from your computer.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is the most anticipated feature launching with iOS 8.1. Apple Pay is a mobile payment service that will let users pay for goods at retailers and restaurants using iOS devices. Apple Pay essentially replaces traditional credit and debit cards that have magnetic stripes. Certain Apple devices will be able to wirelessly communicate with point of sale systems in stores using near field communication (NFC) technology. Transactions are authorized with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and Passbook.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus — which are NFC-enabled devices — can be used to pay for products in stores with Apple Pay. If you have an older iOS device like the iPhone 5, iPhone 5C or iPhone 5S, then you will be able to use Apple Pay in stores by connecting it to the NFC-enabled Apple Watch. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 have the ability to pay using a single touch just within certain apps by selecting Apple Pay and placing your finger on Touch ID.

Apple said that 220,000 retail locations will support Apple Pay at launch. Stores that will support Apple Pay include Macy’s, Target, Walgreens, Foot Locker and Bloomingdales. The participating restaurants include Subway, Panera Bread and McDonald’s.

Bug Fixes And The Return Of The Camera Roll

Apple iOS 8.1 will include bug fixes and the return of the Camera Roll. One of the bug fixes will be for an issue that makes it hard for iOS 8 users to pair with Bluetooth devices.

When iOS 8 launched, Apple replaced the Camera Roll with a section called “Recently Added.” The “Recently Added” section includes photos and videos that were taken within the last month. Apple is likely bringing back the Camera Roll due to a negative response from users about the change.

Man I'm ready to go out and buy a 6+ somewhere but it's too damn cold and my dad has my car. Gonna pull the trigger as soon as I can. Probably will give my 5 to my pops since his phone is crap.

Anyone else have issues with the screen becoming unresponsive?

I got my launch day phone replaced because of this, but now the replacement is doing it too.

My Plus does it from time to time.

I simply lock & unlock the phone, goes back to normal.

I haven't gotten my 6+ yet, but my 4S does from time to time. It seems like it happened more & more starting with the later versions of iO7. It still seems to happen now from time to time with iO8 too but like @louytromps said, I just lock & unlock the phone & it seems to do the trick... :rolleyes

Yeah, I know about locking and unlocking it to get it working again, but my only fear is that it is an issue with the digitizer that will get progressively worse.

Anyway, went ahead and added Apple Care + when I was getting the replacement, so I should be fine. Just glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this.

When I got the iphone 6 I made a new folder for photos from the iphone 5, is there a way to transfer them to the camera roll without messing up the order of when pictures were taken?

Keeping my 6 up to date with the latest software. My iPad will be kept on iOS 7 solely for moviebox purposes :pimp:

I'm assuming you want to put them before the pictures taken since switching to the 6? If so, then you'll need to download the app called "Rollit".

You'll want to first put all the photos (new and old) that you want in your camer roll in a folder on your desktop. From there, follow the directions in the app and you'll be good to go. Before you start the transfer, you'll want to make sure that "ordered transfer" is switched to the on position under the app's settings.

The dates for all the photos may end up switching to today's date (this happened to me), but they'll be in order.

I will try that. I actually got Rollit before posting but transferred the old pictures and it was showing under the new pictures when I scrolled down.
