I'm all in favor of improving the d league and making it an actual viable destination for players aspiring to be Pros. Increase the pay, and make it an actual minor league not the abandoned little brother of the NBA.

I look at guys like Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, OJ Mayo, Mike Beasley, Greg Oden, Eric Gordon, Renardo Sidney, etc. guys who were clearly targeted by the NBA and guys who knew they would be playing in the NBA very soon. What are legit NBA prospects going to gain by going to college? They were all as NBA ready as they were going to get, why make them go to an institution that they not only don't need, but wouldn't even use if it wasn't mandated.

this is the real goal of the 2yr rule. Guys are going to enter the D League right out of high school and then become draft eligible after 2 seasons, 2 seasons where they were getting paid, traveling, training under actual NBA environments, and not having to play school and still experiencing the NBA lifestyle just on a much less grandiose scale.

How the heck are you going to increase the pay for the D League when almost no fans go to the games?

Theres no point of the NBA pouring money into that and the WNBA

College Basketball helps them develop more mentally and physically

so what do you want osh?

go back to the way it was?
yes, or fix the aau/college ball/d league.
i agree with fix the d-league, said it multiple times in this thread. its not real basketball. dudes are chucking and trying to put up stats to get in the league. Putting a NBA rookie there isnt going to help him. its not team oriented
Oh that sounds like AAU and High School ball

I'm not a fan of college ball and do believe that colleges benefit from the kids more than the players benefit

But I do believe many players need time after high school before entering the league.

GG Warriors fans. If we face you guys in the playoffs it will be an amazing series.

Portland has been very average since the beginning of 2014. I guess all the talk about them being a true contender is out the window now?

Hayes himself has told me stories of teachers passing players off the pretense that they get a football to them signed by all of the players on the team. Most of the players don't even go to class, they chill in the lounge until practice and once the season is over, forget about it.

WNBA is a lost cause and worthless IMO

NBA will keep pouring money into the d-league because eventually it will become an important part of the NBA.

It doesnt cost much for them in the first place regardless

How is the D-League a better investment than getting a free minor league that develops players mentally and physically?

How much would have to pay the players to get them to want to come?

d-league isnt about money, its about getting exposure and getting better while playing with better and lower tier nba talent.

Develops mentally and physically? I would say that that isn't proven. How can a player improve mentally for the NBA unless he's actually in the NBA?

And improving physically is overrated and even if they become a tad bit better physically, it still doesn't translate to being a better pro prospect. You're still going to have to adjust to the size and physicality of the NBA.

Bottomline: College or no college, the only way prospects will become more suited for the NBA is...by being in the NBA. so if they are pro prospects, why prolong it?

They never were in my eyes. Their defense has been subpar all season and they shoot too many midrange jumpers, LMA in particular. They were able to have a great offense despite that but their great start was due to unsustainable shooting and a soft schedule. But they've been coming back down to Earth, they're now 11-13 in their last 24 games.

Portland was never a contender.. if you looked beyond their record the first part of the season, you should have seen this coming.

A 20 year old guy who's been to college is going to be more mature mentally then a 18 year old who just graduated from high school more times than not

Theres only been 2, straight from high school to NBA Rookie of the Years....Lebron and Stoudemire.( Amare was 20 years old during his rookie year season)

And only one time has a high school to the NBA player even finished in the top 3 of the Rookie of the Year voting or made the NBA All Rookie team

So its obvious the NBA level of play isn't increased when high school players jump straight to the NBA

Once more:
Heat fans are so damn insecure.
On the topic of college helping in the development of players, I truly believe that if Bassy went to Louisville he would've had a much more successful NBA career.
