My opinion is they should.

Doc Rivers and the Clippers stand on the precipice of history and they are shrinking away from it.

Basketball is a game.

This is much bigger than a game.

Besides, the zeitgeist will not remember in the off season.

Timing is the most important thing when it comes to social commentary and activism.

Yes all of what you said is true, but again, to hold the players guilty is unfair. They aren't activists or anything like that. They're paid to play basketball and win a championship. You can compare them to Ali all you want but we're talking about a group/organization versus one individual. That's not a fair comparison.

this isn't a pr nightmare for the league.

it's a pr nightmare for the clippers, its management & sterling
It's definitely a PR black eye for the league breh. Silver and company don't want any part of their brand associated with racism or bigotry
i disagree. it doesn't make the league look bad. the reaction and stances people have taken against this occurrence has made the league look quite positive & unified

the nba shouldn't be held accountable for the words of this one person, but now that this has been made public in such a blatant manner, i'm sure the nba will set a good example for other people and similar institutions in general to follow

All the success they enjoy serves only to increase the wealth and stature of an owner that has nothing but antipathy for their personage.

These individuals are highly visible and influential, just as their socially aware idols were.

You have the opportunity to follow in their footsteps. (which is sorely needed these days)

Do it.

How isn't it a PR nightmare when Stern and the owners knew what this guy was about since the 90s and never did a single thing about it? His racism has been well documented prior to his latest discussion and for a league that promotes diversity and tolerance to have an owner that is so open with his views concerning race looks bad.

Apparently Gibson missed the meeting when the Bulls decided they were gonna play like *******
