Diluted product... More owners means less money when they revenue share, which means owners will start cutting into the players slice... which means lockout:x

Imagine if you could put Kevin Love, Ant Davis, Conley and Marc Gasol on teams like the Celtics, Lakers, Warriors, Bulls or Knicks... teams with real history and legit generational fanbases that support their teams GOOD or BAD

The notion of a diluted product only applies to the fans. The owners don't care about that one bit. All they care about is the money they're making hand over fist.

Yeah, I'm sure the NBA is going to drop the Pelicans right after begging Tom Benson to buy them, giving them a #1 pick, and the All-Star Game. They owe Tom Benson so many favors.

chill...thats exactly what the lockout was for.

Must be a die hard Kicks fan talking bout the league getting smaller...

Watching the OKC/GSW game again, and it's amazing how Thabo pretty much no-looked the ball directly to Westbrook. There's a chance though that he may have known where he was, just cause of the angle he threw it to him. If Thabo would've made a traditional pass, he would've thrown it to 3 GSW players.

Unless the economy completely tanks again and a bunch of teams really start losing money, contraction isn't going to happen.

I just hope no more expansion happens any time soon. I know Stern had ideas about putting a team in Mexico and even possibly London.

And I think if there continues to be as big a disparity in the quality of the teams between the West and the East, the NBA is going to have to consider reorganizing the conferences.

the league should definitely expand. perhaps into mexico, (more into) canada and/or even the caribbean. maybe do it regionally - have a few neighboring cities share a team. i see how it would be tough given major market domination, but also don't believe the product would be "diluted" at all. there's a lot of good talent that's waiting to break into the league and can't because numbers are somewhat limited (and maybe even a bunch of players who don't even deserve to be in the league)

For half of the 2000s the Western Conf. Finals was the real NBA finals. This disparity isn't new, unfortunately.

True, but the disparity seems even more pronounced this year than it was back then. Although now, at least the two good teams in the East have just as good or better a chance of winning the Finals as any team in the West.

Yeah, I don't remember there ever being so many non-competitive teams in the East, but at least there are two elite contenders.

Those back-to-back Nets finals, and the Cavs finals were just embarrassing.

a smaller league does not ensure a better one

there will still be bozo organizations like the knicks, for example, making terrible decisions in the front office, yet still making lots of money because of the market they're in

a better league is about better players and smart decisions by respective team owners/management in given markets, not necessarily about the fanbase(s)

I just think it's sad to have so many teams where their cities are indifferent to them. The NBA is a great product, it shouldn't have to be that way. Keep it where it's loved. (And send a team back to Seattle)

NFL only has one team whose home city ignores it, Miami.

well said

Nah Jacksonville is a city that doesn't deserve a pro sports team, but the Jaguars do have a strong fan base.

Damn, never would have thought that. Just kind of assumed I guess ................... (to be fair, I feel like a lot of fan bases don't get a fair shake)

Also, I just realized what you were trying to say

I thought you were just saying that the only team in the NFL who has a poor fanbase/support is Miami, nvm
