I'm opening a can of worms, but I think what dirk has done over the years with talent that he's had has been more impressive then Kobe. I'm well aware of Kobe's accolades etc. Kobe has been extremely blessed in terms of the talent he's played with. This is just my personal preference. No need to crucify me or anything like that, just a matter of opinion.

Andre Igoudala getting paid close to 13 million playing below league average levels though.

Not looking like such a great pick up for the Warriors now.
Gonna have to disagree here. Hes their second most important player. He leads the league in Plus/Minus per game and their record is great with him, and bad without. It may not show up on the stat sheet, but that guy is a huge reason why this team has remained afloat this year. The elite defense and ball handling to take pressure off of Steph is extremely important

Theyre 7-8 without him. They need that guu.

I agree, now and in their prime, especially having the benefit of hind sight. Kobe is far superior but, I'll take a Dirk with a nonKobe 2 over a Kobe with a nonDirk 4
Exactly man. Like you said this is really a hindsight dictated convo. Outside of Jordan, you don't see too many 2's carrying their team all the way to the ship with out a dominant big man

except for the whole elite defense ball handling and passing thing.

but sure not a great pick up.

Yea except he's not passing that well compared to how he has turnover percentage is higher.

Only + his perimeter d but he's not with 13 million, stop it.

You can get a secondary ball handler for a lot cheaper word to Jarrett Jack last year.

Jordan didn't need a dominant big because he had another dominant wing and a litany of other way above average players. BJ Armstrong a bench player made the all star team for example. The Bulls had so many good players on those championship teams it's not even funny. Why do you think they made it to the Eastern conference finals without MJ? In fact, they would have made it to the finals if not for a bogus call that the ref later apologized for.

Agreed. I don't think we've witnessed anything like that except maybe the Heat

That Bulls team would destroy Miami. You have guys like a prime TonI Kukoc coming off the in bench man. I don't think people actually understand how stacked the Bulls were. It's like Miami on steroids.

Always gotta love the hypothetical sure thing predictions.

he's the best perimeter defe in the league, Jarrett Jack is horrific, they aren't comparable.

They have the 4th best defenses in the league, 10 spot increase.

Why you think that happened. Steph Curry? Klay Thompson? David Lee?

13 mil well spent.

Without a doubt. I'm speaking in general, but I wish people could have this conversation and be objective about it. But I feel of all the teams with multiple championships, Miami has the weakest resume. That doesn't make them a weak team or take away from their accomplishments but IMO they haven't had to go through some of the competition that the other multi-champs have. When they have played stiff or comparable competition, they've gotten some extremely lucky bounces, and in most situations the other team lost the game more so then Miami outright winning. See last year's cham series for an example. However, luck favors the prepared.

I didn't compare Jack and Iggy as defenders though.

Like I said, he's a great perimeter defender and a secondary ball handler but that's it, that's not worth 13 million. Draymond Green and Bogut have had just as big of an impact on GSW defense, nice job convienently leaving their names out, you ain't low.

Most of the hypothetical situation's proposed are pointless cause we'd never know, but I gotta say i agree with the bulls vs Miami one. Especially if it was before lebron came into his own. Can't imagine him developing a dominant psyche playing against scumbag jordan. Reading that i feel hypocritical as hell knowing that i just supported my argument with a hypothetical.

Yeah they do, they are 3 elite defenders, I don't how you think NBA salaries structure work.

Tell me which player on a non rookie contract is going to give you what Andre does for less money?

that championship mavs team had this one guy named shawn marion, dude only had to guard kobe, kd then lebron in three consecutive rounds. that and the fact that the team had tyson chandler, a future DPOY. all dirk had to do, and all dirk has ever had to do is play average defense for his team to be successful.

kobe on the other hand has changed playoff series because of his defense. literally every year there has been a pg who has dominated derick fisher, caused the series to go longer than expected then phil puts kobe on said pg, he slows him down enough for the lakers to win the series. from rondo, to chris paul, to ty lawson, to tony parker to aaron brooks (08 rockets

). 04 might not be the best example but we had the best defensive PG of all time in gary payton on the team but kobe ends up guarding the best wing players game after game including billups in the finals.

biggest weakness of kobe's defense is that he has no respect for role players, if you average 8 ppg and kobe is guarding you then you will probably find yourself open a lot because he doenst think you are a scoring threat. kobe's best defense has always been on dominant ball handlers and in his prime he is one of the best to ever do it on that side of the floor (dude has more all defensive first teams than duncan).

so yeah, taking dirk over kobe when starting a team is debatable. personally i wouldnt but i can see why someone would take dirk, but to say dirk is as good of a defender as kobe is laughable. i could print out pictures of every pf/c in the nba, tape them all to my wall and tell a blind dude to throw a dart at my wall and chances are the guy hit by the dart is as good of if not better defender than dirk

nothing wrong with letting them know whats happening but superstars should never have final say in front office decisions or it will end up like lebron on the cavs

front office people get paid good money and in most cases they are better at their jobs than players
