Which RB that played in the NFL recently had the best pure talent?

I honestly think Trent gets more flack than he deserves. At lot of those runs he had a defensive lineman in his face as soon as he touched the ball. Still hope for him.
the browns traded the 4th, 118th, 139th and 211th picks in the 2012 draft to the vikings to move up 1 spot to pick him at 3

the the colts traded the 26th pick in this draft for him

I watched Shady McCoy, Morris, and even bruisers like Marshawn and Blount find a way to bounce to the outside after holes closed up. Richardson runs into his blockers, then runs into his blockers, and continue to run into his blockers.

I mean, am I wrong?  Seriously what does he do well?

He isnt super fast.

He isnt that strong.

He isnt elusive.

He doesnt have great vision.

He doesnt burst through holes.

He has ball security issues.

He isnt a great pass catcher.

He is an ok blocker.

For an NFL running back to be a primary back, he has to do at LEAST one thing very well.  Trent isnt even average in most categories let alone good.

They have their franchise stable RBs already in Richardson and Brown

Trent Richardson is not nor will he ever be a Franchise RB, better suited as a FB....crazy how spot on this scouting report on him is

Also wouldn't mind seeing him return kicks again

#03 Trent Richardson
Position: Fullback
Height: 5’11″
Weight: 222lbs.
Season: 2013
Class: Junior
School: Alabama
Strengths

He is a highly touted running back coming into the draft…..but after evaluation his skill sets dictate his best long term success will be at the fullback position.

He possesses good size….he is more of a grinder than graceful runner…he has a running style of current NFL running back “Michael Turner”…who displays excellent lower body stregnth…allowing him to consistently push the pile, and finish runs leaning forward…along with displaying excellent long speed for runner his size.

In my opinion…he is a glorified fullback with straight-line speed…..who is perpetrating as a running backlacking the necessary long term skills to be successful beyond the collegiate level as projected by most.

At the collegiate level much of his success is due to being much bigger….faster…and more physical than most…. but these talents alone won’t measure up or translate enough at the next level.

His lack of quick burst in and out of cuts…lacks of effective stop & go burst from dead stop…lack of fluid lateral movement side to side…lacking of quick light feet…number of false steps before LOS…lacking ability to consistently avoid defenders in space…anticipates contact from defenders…and lacks ablity to find hidden yardage that upper tier runners see….all adding up to him ultimately not living up to his press clippings.

The attributes that make him a more effective fullback candidate is his unique straight-line speed for a runner of his size….from the with him closer to the LOS…if the hole is there he can quickly hit it…and with the speed he possesses can take it the distance! Making him an added weapon to an offense not normally thought of from the fullback position.

He displays good consistent push of the pile after contact…..and finishes off runs in a physical manner frequently ending runs leaning forward…..along with possessing the physical mentality needed to take on the physical demands of the position.

He is also a very effective pass protector……who displays good sustained blocks…..and the ability to gather himself and get into defenders…and redirecting their momentum towards the quarterback.

Weaknesses

Weaknesses mentioned above (as running back).
Not very instinctive runner….can be upright & robotic (as running back).
Ideal lead blocker? (as fullback).
Take on physical demands of new position? (as fullback).

My Value Board
2nd Round (mid)
Summary

Unfortuantley for Richardson his success at the collegiate will not translate as successful at the NFL
level!

That is a remarkably accurate scouting report considering people were calling this guy the next AP...

Whoooooa now. Who called Trent the next AP? I need to see this.

I believe some major writers called him the best RB talent since AD.   I don't really want to search now though.

Not on NT, sorry no flaming opportunities.

I was agreeing w/ you,

It was just funny reading what you said.

Every single above-average back in NFL history has been named in this thread....

I don't put Shaun Alexander in the category either.  He played behind one of the greatest Guard-Tackle combos in NFL history.

naming Michael pittman is as bad as naming k. Barlow  gimme a break

and did someone say of all backs in HISTORY they would take FAULK?? really?

ain't eem top 5 mane... of this era ( 20yrs?).... maybe... but of all time? nah

Faulk was such a dangerous, multi faceted weapon. I wouldn't dismiss it so quickly. I mean I would still take Jim Brown but with today's offenses...I get it

I get it, it ain't the same exact league as brown, sanders, and bo played in, but i still see football as a game that is won by running the ball and defense.. it's why i see seattle taking the trophy next week, but we'll see

faulk was awesome though... no doubt
