Weird..because the albums you named are emotionally charged. The "struggle" is just different and falls in a different era. Evolution of societal norms influence all facets of art. Especially music. You're not Trolling. Just look deeper.

Fair enough. And I understand what you're saying and to an extent I agree.

However, I do try to judge and evaluate the music for what it is, without the influence of the generation or the society that the music is in. And with that being said, 90's rap just "sounds" bad to me for the most part.Sonically, it just isn't pleasing. The lack of melody, the stale writing, I tend to believe that more than the music being a reflection of society today, today's rap music sonically is easier on the ear, and more versatile from a writing perspective. It covers far more of life fully than most of the 90's rap artist and music.

At the risk of generalizing to a degree, (which is necessary given the amount of music that comes out in these decades) 90's rap music doesn't document a lot of the emotions and other aspects of life that we all experience in one form or another and in that regard, It's limited extremely IMO.

We can agree to disagree!

Real life rap ..

Ghostface feat. Mary J. Blige - "All That I Got Is You"

2 Pac - "Dear Mama"

Method Man & Mary J. Blige - "I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need To Get By"

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - "Tha Crossroads" (Video scared the uck outta me when i was smaller..lol)

Pete Rock and CL Smooth - "They Reminisce Over You [T.R.O.Y.]"

Mind Playing Tricks On Me-Geto Boys

Heavy D & The Boyz – Now That We Found Love

LL Cool J – Hey Lover

Just a few..could go on forever. Very pertinent music for that time and universally understood.

See, almost all of that that you posted was just ehhh at best to me :\

we're talking about "covering more of life" correct? and versatility^^^^ I picked those songs because usually those rappers are wayyy(aside from Heav D) more aggressive and these songs showcase that versatility. Their sound and styles destroy MOST of today's rappers.

 @ rustled 90s babies.

FYI: People from the 80s don't dislike 90s rap. ****...most of 90s rappers ARE the people from 80s. They might dislike late 90s/turn of the century rap.

The problem is these new gen rappers are trying to sound like each other.

Also, Beyoncé is somewhat overrated. She makes mostly pop music now and really doesn't have any competition.

See, after Pac, a little of Big, a little of Nas, I really don't vibe with none of who you listened. And i've actually listened to them all. Just not for me I guess. I try so hard to get into 90's Hip-Hop and I always catch myself forcing myself to listen. Overly Dedicated, Take Care, Born Sinner, Hall Of Fame, (yep) GKMC, NWTS, Section 80, i'm rolling with all of those over most of 90's rap music. Very Serious. I find 90's rap music so boring most of the time man.

That being said though, I do think 2pac is the goat and has become quickly the most underrated legend in music.

But I swear  I am not trolling, and I am not trying to rustle any jimmies. I truly believe that 90's rap in large part is pure struggle.

No dis bruh but how old are u? U sound like a 90's baby..

in 5-10 years people will look at mainstream rap today the same way we currently look at lil john's music

I'm not really sure about that, cause during Lil John's run, he was only a fraction of a lot of variety in the radio. Today's mainstream radio is basically a monopoly. Everybody seems like they're under the same label, using the same producers and recycling the same songs and beats over and over.
