WELCOME TO THE MARVEL MULTIVERSE -*RIP STAN LEE & Boseman* - XMEN97 release 3/20

I want Spidey to flourish on his own. He was always more of the loner type.

Want him to learns outbid abilities and fight his villains on his own.

I also hate the title.

To be honest, if you want that, there's 5 films already that you can see that happen.

The whole point of him being in the MCU is to be part of a bigger world with other superheroes

It's not like the movie is gonna be Spidey and the Avengers curb stomping Kraven.

It'll all make sense why these MCU characters show up.

To be honest, with Iron Man backing Spider-Man in Civil War and having him on the team it'd be strange if he didn't make an appearance of some kind anyways. And with how badly the last iteration of Spider-Man Sony put out tanked Marvel wasn't going to have their name attached to this and let it fail  That's why they called in the big gun :smokin

Honestly think the Spidey movie is going to be about the beginning of junior year up until homecoming. Hence the title. They did say they were going to really go high school movie with it.

So what I'm imagining right now is one of those teen movies except the lead just happens to be a superhero.

Robert Downey Jr. Joins 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Marvel's Shell-head is looking to join Sony's Web-head.
It looks like the team-up of Spider-Man and Iron Man seen in Captain America: Civil War won’t be the duo’s last.

Robert Downey Jr., who plays the red and gold-armored Marvel character, has closed a deal to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Marvel and Sony’s reboot of the web-crawling superhero, sources tell THR.
Probably another $50mm payday except this time it'll just be a small role -- RDJ has really come up

"Doctor Strange's" Swinton Addresses Whitewashing Criticism

"Well, it's not actually an Asian character -- that's what I need to tell you about it," Swinton told The Hollywood Reporter. "I wasn't asked to play an Asian character, you can be very well assured of that." THR then notes that she smiled and added, "You just have to wait and see, because it's not an Asian character."

"The script that I was presented with did not feature an Asian man for me to play, so that was never a question when I was being asked to do it," said Swinton. "All will be revealed when you see the film, I think. There are very great reasons for us to feel very settled and confident with the decisions that were made."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously spoke about Swinton's casting and the decision to take the Ancient One in a different direction, saying that the Ancient One's early comic appearances were "stereotypical" and "don't hold up to what would work today." He added that in the movie, "'the Ancient One' is a title that many people have had. We hit very early on on, What if the Ancient One was a woman? What if the title had been passed and the current Ancient One is a woman? Oh, that's an interesting idea. [Clicks fingers.] Tilda Swinton! Whoa! And it just hit."

^ Of course she would say that.

Here's my cynical take: they need to fill the role of a strong powerful (white) woman who essentially saves the protagonist.

On that note, I really hope Chiwetel flourishes in this role. But don't be surprised if they make him out to be the stereotypical angry black villain.

Is the real reason Hemsworth was not in Civil War because he was shooting for that Huntsman:Winter War Movie?

By the way was not worth it

Robert Downey Jr. to Appear in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Robert Downey Jr. will appear in Marvel and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as Tony Stark.

Following the great chemistry Downey and “Spider-Man” star Tom Holland had in “Captain America: Civil War”, Sony and Marvel knew they had to work hard to get these two back together for the “Spider-Man” reboot. Sources say the size of the role is unknown at this time.

Sony and Marvel had no comment.

Jon Watts is directing “Homecoming” from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Kevin Feige and former Sony exec Amy Pascal are producing the movie, which focuses on a teenage Peter Parker’s high school days.

Plot details are still being heavily guarded.

Holland’s Spider-Man will first make an appearance in the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” before his standalone pic. Production on “Homecoming” is expected to start this summer.

The pic opens on July 7, 2017 with Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier also on board. Michael Keaton had been tapped as the villains but sources now say his deal may not work and the search may be on yet again for a new antagonist.

Downey is repped by CAA and “Captain America: Civil War” opens on May 7.

Seems like they love paying my g 40 mill just for the **** of it.

Sounds more like a reach than cynical

Since when has strong white women saving the protagonist been a thing? :nerd: Especially in this case where it's a white protagonist? If they had made the Ancient One Morgan Freeman then there's something you can by cynical about since that's just the magical negro helping the white guy which is a well known trope in Hollywood.

I figured they didn't want to do the Asian stereotype of the Ancient One so they went for weird *** looking really good actor Tilda Swinton. Tilda Swinton in real life got that Matrix vibe about her and in a Dr. Strange movie where they're trying to channel that Ditko psychedelic LSD experience she's a great choice to be the mouthpiece teaching magic.

As for Chiwetel as Mordo, well seeing that they changed the race of the character from white to black if they still stick to his personality he'll definitely be an angry black villain to anybody that wants to simplify the character. That'll be easy for cynical or just ppl who like to complain to focus on but Mordo is also clever and cunning and obviously very smart but overall the character mainly is just a lackey for a fiery looking demon lord.

Chloe Bennet Says The MCU Should Take A Page From Marvel TV On Diversity

Bennet stated that once she started going on casting calls using Bennet instead of Wang, the response was like night and day. "Oh, the first audition I went on after I changed my name, I got booked. So that’s a pretty clear little snippet of how Hollywood works.”

Continuing with the theme of racism and diversity, the conversation then steered towards Finn Jones being cast as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist in the Netflix superhero drama. Bennet made this statement, while laughing, "I actually saw that [casting] news and I can’t lie, I was a little [disappointed]. I love Marvel, but…"

While she did laud Marvel for thinking outside of the box when it comes thinking outside of the box when it comes to casting its characters, Bennet did state that she would like things taken a step further. "I know they want to stay true to their characters but, you know, every female character in Marvel comics also has, like, triple-Z-sized boobs. So if they cast actors based on the way characters look on the page, I don’t think even Scarlett Johansson—well, maybe Scarlett Johansson—would be in the movies. I think they could do better. You know, there are a lot of white guys named Chris. But I think they will, because it’s important. It’s the right thing to do. Marvel’s a smart company and I think they will represent their fans from around the world. They can take note from the way we’re going on the show, ’cause we’re doing a pretty good job."

People that got mad over that Danny Rand casting set themselves up for a fall :rolleyes

Honestly I never expected Thor to be in the MCU's Civil War. Not only because he wasn't in the comics version, but because he's so much stronger than anyone else that whatever side has him makes it an instant win. They'd have to jump through some incredible hoops to explain why he's not stomping this or that character.

well, in the MCU I see the heavy hitters as (good guys): hulk, thor, IM, vision and groot

we'll see how powerful they do captain marvel and dr strange

and I guess we'll see about antman.. and SW

Well you know Chole aint ever gonna be in a MCU movie

Can't say she's wrong and I'm not surprised at the racism of Hollywood forcing her to change her name. Probably also helps that she's mixed.

she probably wanted to get away from this too with the name change....
