I find him funny because he makes me laugh...nothing more to say, no need to over analyze comedy, does it make you laugh? Then it's good.

That being said, Fallon just started, finding himself on that stage, still a little star struck. Carson, Letterman and Leno are the only ones to hold that time slot that can make it legendary...they were always the most famous person on the stage, even when they werent. They had/have that ability to make anyone who sits with them comfortable...they had legends and made them look star struck or got them to be candid. Stewart is the newest that can do that. Fallon may never get there, time will tell...

That being said NBC is tripping, that ain't Johnny up there.

It was Fallon's stuff on youtube. Like playing dumb games with famous ppl, that Breaking Bad parody, music stuff with The Roots, Timberlake...had me convinced he got good.

Watched the first week of Tonight Show. I got tricked. :smh:

Not to say the younger crowd won't "get" late night talk shows.. but they're definitely something you needed to grow up on to truly appreciate.

Growing up, staying up late to watch Conan at 12:35 was awesome. Same for my older brother staying up late to watch Letterman, Carson, etc. The internet wasn't the same, no Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc., you would appreciate a nightly comedy show. Maybe learn some interesting stuff from the interviews, get exposed to a new band or artist, watch some great comedy bits, get some news through the monologue, etc. And the format hasn't really changed in decades, which is why younger crowds won't "get it" the same.

And for a lot of people, putting on Carson, Leno, Letterman, Conan, etc. was just what you did late at night. Your parents watched it, you would watch it, what else would be on at midnight on network TV? But with all the options available to audiences now, it's a reason why it's harder to attract the younger crowds.

His monologues and interviewing is so bad. His show really is only good for the skits, games, gimmick cover songs, and The Roots.

Rick Ross was on Jimmy Fallon for his first tonight show.  He was on Arsenio Hall last night.

And I think Seth Myers show is funnier than everyone elses right now

Leno > Letterman

Kimmel > O'brien

Ferguson needs to be lower

Chase > Fallon ?  Chase = Fallon's first year at Late Night.

Seth is so dry to me. He seems like a really good comedy writer but not good at all at executing it hence why he has a lot of his aspiring actor staff and up n coming comedians doing skits. He fit for the news segment on SNL cuz it's mostly sarcasm and clever punchlines but he really can't hold my attention so far. Some surprisingly funny skits though. Reminded me of early Conan.

Fallon's just not funny funny, though. Not in the way every other late night host that's made it has been.

Like Craig Ferguson is funny, he's just a Scottish oddball. Conan is funny...and a weird spaz. Leno was funny...he was just also the biggest sellout in comedy, who dumbed down every schlubby thing he ever said, and made sure not to offend anyone ever. It was only when Leno was about to leave, and stopped giving a ****, that you realized...wait...so he coulda been this funny this whole time? :smh:

Kimmel's pretty funny. It took years for him and his writers to figure out the exact tone that he can hit a joke on every time, (kinda like how Jeff Ross used to be awful, now he's got his own show) and how to make him not look like an awkward, sweaty mess every night. So he's been doing his poor man's 90s Letterman, since there's no real competition, except Letterman's corpse. And he was smart making famous friends and using LA, ABC's shows like Lost and Scandal, the Oscars, and the internet to his advantage.

But I'll give Fallon this much...he's really versatile. More than anyone except maybe Conan. But he's not weird like Conan. And he actually makes Conan feel old, cuz Conan should've done 5 years ago what Jimmy's doing now, just better. And you never feel like he's making fun of anyone, just having fun with people. Like he genuinely seems like a fan of the people who come onto his show. And they connected his show to the internet better than any TV thing except...Key & Peele? And unlike Leno, Fallon connects with young people.

Like...he's clever and funny for a niceguy bro. And he's a lot more confident of hisself than early on, but he does a poor man's bland Conan. Which is basically what Conan tried and failed to do when he was on TTS. And that turned off older viewers and had Conan's own fans feeling like..."yo he's toning it down? we out."

So like, he's funny enough that with The Roots...and his side dude....and all the games and gimmicks there to ignore his weak joke telling, he'll be fine. He's never gonna outfunny a funny person, or push them outta the way with his personality. And he can make boring people seem fun. And he'll make you like him as a person. Just...not something I could really stand to watch outside of the random youtube that hits big.

NBC is lame for this. Can't believe Fallon would be too keen on this, unless he's really a two faced bastard

Fallon's content has been tailor made for social media for a while now. For that reason he'll be sticking around.

Jimmy Fallon is a tool and cornball.
Dont know why people watch him. He is not funny.

Seriously. I don't even hate him as a person but.... He's terrible. I don't understand how you can be so bad and get that position

**** jay Leno. Did Conan dirty.

this.

if a superstar decides to go on another channel and then wants to come back a couple of months after for his new movie or something, are you really going to say no?

My thoughts exactly.
Uhhhh sorry George Clooney or Bill Clinton, we don't want you because you appeared on Letterman a few weeks ago.
Yeah right.

^Definitely won't work on A-list and some B-list actors but it'll work for C-list and below.

johnny carson had da balls to personally black-ball certain people he had beef with

joan rivers was one but there were others

what a douche
R.I.P.

None of these people are funny, like none of them. At all. Conan was maybe funny slightly at one point in a silly, Jim Carey kinda way. For the most part this is stuff my grandmother MIGHT smirk at.

Craig Ferguson needs to be shot in the head.

in some respects, i think some of those old timers were more clever than folks are today & i respect that (type of humor)

but they were like old wrestling stars - very few high spots

ya had to actually watch it not just wait for sound bytes, which refers back to another post in this thread

Enh, I only watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report anyway. Neither are reliant on guests.
