Uncomfortable Feelings: Seeing A Brother Doing Service Related Activities For You

One of the things I like most about my job is that I am responsible to keep my desk clean, and to empty my own garbage.

Helps me remember that just cuz i fit into a certain tax bracket doesnt mean I can't do the simple stuff.

i dont know why but i feel uncomfortable talking to someone in the bathroom.... my coworker was takin a leak and i was washing my hands about to leave then he asks me about the knicks because he knows im a fan and i just make small talk to not be rude... but it felt weird and i wanted to go

I'm with you OP. Even though you shouldn't pity them, they don't wanna be pitied, I can't help but feel that way...

What I always do is say hi or give em a smile... and always clean up after myself. I hate it when someone's at the mall, and leaves their tray on the table once they're done.

It ain't hard to empty our your tray and bring it to the garbage bin...

i know exactly how u feel
i get that feeling sometimes

on another note my girl who is filipino
made a comment yesterday
she was saying she cracks up everytime we go somewhere
and she sees me and another random black person make eye contact
we ALWAYS give a head nod
she said it happens wherever we go
i just started cracking up cause i never really paid attention to it

As long as you show everyone respect no matter their job title or what they do,that's what matters. No one's no more important than the other and todays environment job security is kinda shakey for everyone so no one knows.

Manual labor is still looked down upon in this country and thought to be for the lower class.
Just think about if every manual low waged worker decided to stop working tomorrow and what would happen.Espacially in places like hospitals because those are the people who keep those places going even though a lot of ignorant people think just the opposite.

:smokinBe think for them,I am either way.

You just know that brotha had the potential to do so much more. I feel you tho.

I chill with my Lady friend brotha, dude is a good dude but he just sells himself wayyyyy short. I guess from not having a father in his life. Hr older than me but I try to give him words of wisdom and I let him drink and smoke with me and try to school him a bit. I'm 24,but I feel the struggle.

Only the strong survive.

I take my own trash out from my desk. I put it there so I take it out. I have my students take their trash out as well.

Regardless of color or gender, I don't like people cleaning up after me.

What I feel bad for for them (custodians/janitors in general as well), is when ignorant and immature people purposely piss on the floor or mess up the bathroom, or the other facilities and are just like "Whatever the janitor will clean it up". These grown men here don't got any respect for the environment.

It ain't that bad bruh. My pops was a janitor while I was growing up. You pretty much work at your own pace, always surrounded by the smell of pinesol and an unlimited supply of toilet paper :smokin
Thoughts are well appreciated OP..

I'm always cool with the janitors when I'm out in the field. At the end of the day, they get a paycheck just like me.

Why feel bad though? they don't need your sympathy. They got a job to do just like you. I treat the cleaning staff here like everyone else, joking around like it's just one big company, but I understand their role, no need to be uncomfortable. That's like ultra liberal white folks being sympathetic (which comes across as pity) to you solely because you're black but you know damn well you don't need it. You're a fully competent contributing member of society, why are you feeling some type of way when we have no history together?

this, man. this all day. back in high school the janitors were always the cool

employees who unlocked rooms for you that weren't supposed to be unlocked.

one of em even shot dice w/ us  they just people like everyone else man.

they don't look miserable most of the time either. also, my Granny was a maid

and i went to work w/ her often. i knew she was never miserable or depressed.

she loved life and one of the rich people SHE worked for even committed suicide.

therefore, who tf am i to pity them? ***** you better get in here and get this trash

just like i gotta sit at the damn registrar's office and fold transcripts. these people

have lives man. they go home and do regular stuff. they're not slaves. they're not

prisoners.

The more odd scenario is when you someone you know from high school working a job you know they don't like. I was getting a Subway sandwich and saw some dude that was a total punk in high school. I didn't even do anything to make the scenario worse but I can tell from body language that he wasn't too happy to see me.
