How do I "get more into sports"

I wish I understood the "subliminal shots" in the thread. Anyone care to explain

Some folks get upset over who people root for.

For instance, some believe if you from Chicago, you must be a fan of the Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs or White Sox. If you stray from that sheepish logic, you could catch that bandwagon type label.

The fantasy sports tip was a joke as well, that's just numbers/data, same as following the stock market really.

Bottom line, just follow what interests you, you can't go wrong. Don't be afraid to differ from the masses ideals.

yea just follow what interests you and if its not sports oh well. I have a little cousin that's the same way, all his friends talk about is basketball but he isn't really knowledgable about the sport. I was always into basketball. I didn't like football when I was younger because I didn't understand the rules. So I just continued to watch and figure it out. JUST WATCH THE GAMES! Even playing the games really makes you a fan.

One of the things I liked to do is surround myself with the lore. All the major sports have a great history and it's great to just learn everything. NFL does a really good job with that kind of stuff with NFL Films, it basically turns their greatest stars into mythic heroes for the kids. I guess it also helps that I'm a little of a history buff too

Baseball was the last major sport that I got into and when I first started, I watched all of Ken Burns' 9-hour Baseball documentary and also read a ton of memoirs

Great post. Sports lore >

i don't think it was a joke. it's a good way to learn about individual players across the league. when you watch with the interest of "oh i need x player to get this many more points" you pay closer to the game and learn more about it. just something to keep you interested even if the game sucks

Fantasy helps you learn about good players on bad teams that you usually see little to no coverage on. But that's moreso a foundation to build off of once you have knowledge of who's good and who isn't. Watch as much as you can.
And you don't need a team to support to enjoy sports. One of the most knowledgable sports fans I know roots for nobody and just enjoys good games/performances.

If you're talking about fantasy, I have to admit I learned a ton about football as a young kid from playing Madden. Especially when it came to positions on the lines, and DBs.

Pick a favorite team or two, watch as many games as you can, and eventually when they replay each other you'll start to pick up on the names and all that. Make sure to listen to the commentary and you'll get into it quick.

It also helps if the sportscasters are great. I love baseball and I love the SF Giants and Red Sox and the SF Giants sportscasters are the best. Makes watching the games so enjoyable. I'm sure every giants fan would agree.

So, funny story

About half an hour ago I was inexplicably struck by a severe case of the munchies and a desire to ravenously consume about a metric ton of devastatingly unhealthy crap food

I wanted to go to a fast food joint but my car was blocked in by housemate; too lazy to get their keys and move it myself I decided to just hoof it to the local pharmacy and buy an assortment of chips and soda and candy. Unhealthy as hell I know but I'd been eating pretty good for a bit so I decided to treat myself Tom Haverford style

Anyway I procure my Cheetos, double pack of chocolate cupcakes, Rice Crispies Treats, Mountain Dew Code Red, and chocolate chip oatmeal bar (gotta have dat dietary fiber)

The cashier, black tattooed dude, immediately sees my purchase and goes "Oh, ****, my boi got dem snacks for da game tonight!"

Now, he said this because I LOOK like the kind of guy who's very much into sports. He goes on to talk about the OKC game tonight, using excruciating amounts of detail, and I'm just nodding my head and going "Yeah dawg I totally agree! Maaaan yeah bro real talk!"

My **** is all rung up, I've got my receipt in my hand, and dude is still talking. He talks about the Heat game last night and he's going "**** da Heat!"

Now, since this is South Florida and the Heat are obviously the hometown heroes, I say, "I guess you're not from around here?"

And then he goes, "Naw bruh I'm from Tallahassee!" And he goes on to talk about ALL SORTS of Tallahassee sports-related **** that I have NO CLUE about and he's going "But you know all about that, right! I bet you know all that ****"

And I'm like "yeah dawg yeah man I know what you're saiyin'"

All in all  felt guilty as **** walking home because I lied to another man's face for like 5 minutes straight

I think I'll watch the game tonight

No shame in not LOVING to watch sports. I know some dudes that like but dont love sports. Doesn't make them socially awkward or anything when we are hanging out.

I'm glad I watched the Grizzlies play last night. It was a good game

I told my friend I was trying to get into sports a bit more and he suggested that we go to a Marlins game. I told him I didn't like baseball but he says it'll be a fun experience

I mean I enjoy watching it; I'm just trying to commit myself to actually sitting down and watching MORE. I'm not a TV person
