ETCCHILE Presents... MKX & Ed Boon - BGS 2014
Being shared with us by our friends of Elite Tournament Chile (ETC) is a short "appreciation" video from the Brazilian Game Show of 2014. At this event many of our friends from South America including ETC McFly were able to meet NetherRealm Studios Creative Director, Ed Boon as well as play Mortal Kombat X. Below is ETC's message:

"Hi TYM!

We leave a recorded video Brazil game show in 2014. This event were many players in Brazil: Mr. Bruno, Xiller Xinox, @Poto2222 & @ETC Mcfly of Chile. A sample of the course, stand and presentation of the game. Also we were with Ed Boon which kindly autographed our many products."

Enjoy!
My Brief experience with MKX @ London Comic-Con by DreadKnight1
I was luckily able to get a few games in at Comic Con in London, here are my findings/observations with the current build:
 • Raiden has a quick low which strings to a launcher as I accidentally found by mashing.
 • Raiden's displacer variation is the only one to have a teleport and the input for the teleport was down,up. I believe that he doesn't have a first hit overhead move though,he does have a string where it hits overhead 2nd. I believe that Thunder God has that string where he's put on the other side through a teleport but not as an independent teleport move.
 • D'Vorah is a footsy monster with incredible range.
 • Kotal Kahn's risk-reward style move where he cuts himself gives him a huge damage boost(up there with that of level 3 Bane). I was uppercuted straight after he did this for a good 17-22%.
 • Raiden has lots of multi-hitting strings, his movelist was full of inputs like 1122,213 and other 3/4 hit strings(this was checked in Thunder God variation).
 • Sub zero has a strong knockdown game after a slide hits, the WB representative was stuffing all my wakeups-even teleport.
 • As deduced from the point above: wakeups are much less effective than Injustice or even MK9.
 • Scorpion has BnB meterless combos of at least 35-40%.
 • Quan Chi's outro is badass and features skeletal minions surrounding him(a hint for those of you who haven't seen it).
 • Kotal Kahn can reliably anti-air with his anti air grab(dunno if this was confirmed or people assumed it was only good for combos).
 • Raiden's superman has much more recovery on whiff(a lot more)
 • Scorpion's ninjutsu variation is probably the easiest of the 3 to use. His combos performed by the WB representative who was probably a tester too were plain looking and involved a lot of the up sword.
 • Based on the speed of Raiden's teleport and his strings but without actually knowing frame data. I assume Raiden will have around about the same/maybe slightly better pressure and advantage with teleport cancels,he also has a better mixup game in MKX so his up close game was buffed significantly
 • Raiden has a great d1(especially in thunder god) and anti cross up d1s are back and raiden's is really good, I assume he can get d1xxdf2EX or d1xxdb3EX(ascending thunder god) into a full 1 bar combo.
 • The way it works when someone wins a round is like mk9 where the characters just go straight into their animation and walk back or something(no special looking hit that knocks the opponent back like in IGAU). The new thing though is that you can finish your combo if you've won the game that round(definitely if you win at round 2, not too sure if you can finish the combo upon winning round 3).
IMPORTANT EDIT: throws have been altered massively, they now hit airborn opponents and have MB options, I even saw a Quan Chi player while I was queuing connect a standing 1 or 2 after a MB throw which I believe comboed. On top of this I physically saw in the pause menu's move list that the option to burn a bar with a throw was there

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MY EXPERIENCE WAS BRIEF, I was only able to get a few games in before the queues got huge and also I wanted to explore the rest of the convention.

I'll edit more in if I remember more, questions?

Disclaimer:The build of MKX I played is still subject to change in the time before the game releases.

Sorry but it was too loud/short of a period for me to uncover new intro quotes and gibberishes. Also I have nothing to report about cassie,F/T or Kano.

Just looking back at all the info I've looked at, my experience and watching others play, the game looks pretty well balanced so far.

Kano Cutthroat NEW Gameplay by TendouTensei

Hello everyone, I decided to spend some times on the Cutthroat variations as this variation is in my opinion the most similar to MK9 Kano. First impression: Kano is very fast and aggressive! you can notice it by looking his dash, it gives to him the possibility to make a quick pressure on the opponent without necessary using the run button.

NRS gives shout-outs to various parties in the Mortal Kombat community, including TestYourMight and the Scottish fighting game community.

Kotal Kahn's Totems:

Blue Totem - Defensive properties are applied to Kotal Kahn. It is assumed that he takes decreased damage.

Crystal Totem - An offensive buff is applied to his attacks.

Red Totem - anytime the opponent is damaged, blood flows into Kotal Kahn, healing him. This lasts until he gets hit or the effect expires by its own volition.

Be careful when using Blood Sacrifice ! If you don't have enough health to sustain yourself when you use it, you WILL lose the round.

Quan Chi's spell circles

Purple Circle - augments the abilities of his magical attacks, leaving a lasting effect on the opponent.

Red Circle - opponent takes increased chip damage.

Green Circle - increasing Quan Chi's defensive ability by giving him a hit of armor.

Sub-Zero's Unbreakable Variation:

With his Ice Shield, Sub-Zero can counter an opponent's physical attack with a freezing effect, allowing him to combo the opponent.

Scorpion:

His jumpkick-teleport combos appear to have carried over from Mortal Kombat 9 and he retains his trademark spear and takedown.

Kano:

Expect to play him as a defensive character with powerful space control, particularly the air.
Interview with Pro-Fighting Gamer Tom Brady
Jemmillion: The first tournament I ever attended was Summer Jam 7 in 2013. I had the great opportunity of getting to speak with you. At the time, I had known you as the guy who played Aquaman in Injustice: Gods Among Us. After the tournament was over, I learned that you have been active in the Mortal Kombat scene for a long time. How long have you been playing fighting games?

Tom Brady: I have been playing fighting games since the very beginning, and started with Street Fighter 2 in the early 1990’s. I have been competing for over 20 years.

Jemmillion: Who and/or what inspired you to become a part of the Fighting Game Community?

Tom Brady: When I first started, there was no “Fighting Game Community.” That era didn’t begin until there were forums where other players could all be in contact with one another. It was that concept that really allowed fighters to become big tournament games in today’s scene. I got into it because I could now discuss certain tactics, combos, match ups, etc., with other top players without having to get into my car and drive to the arcade. It also allowed me to discuss these things with players around the world rather than just in my local area.

Jemmillion: You’re main in Mortal Kombat is Sub-Zero. Can you tell us a little bit about why you choose him and what makes him top tier compared to the other characters?

Tom Brady: Sub-Zero was the first MK character I ever chose. I only have two favorite MK characters (Bo Rai’ Cho being the second), so I always choose one of those. I didn’t actually play him as a main in all MK games however. I only used him as a tournament main in MK3 and MK9. By design, Sub-Zero is top tier. It takes several changes to the overall fighting game engine to make him low tier like he eventually became in MK9. Despite not being a top character in MK9, I was still able to get results with him, because he still breaks the traditional fighting game laws of footsies as well as a few other aspects of fighters.

There is just something about Sub-Zero and the Ice Clone that clicks with me. He is literally the perfect fighting game character for me. I am looking forward to using him as my main or one of my mains in MKX. The character is a perfect fit for me. I don’t play Sub-Zero…I AM Sub-Zero. It’s an honor for many of the MK Community to consider me the face of one of the most iconic fighting game characters of all time.

Jemillionm: Earlier this year, NetherRealm studios announced Mortal Kombat X. After watching a lot of the MKX trailers and character reveal videos that have been released, it seems like the new game is a mix between Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. How do you think the style change and addition of interactables will affect the game?

Tom Brady: I don’t believe MKX will play anything like MK9 or Injustice, I believe it will be its own game. I think the interactables will have a much different effect on the game than we saw in Injustice because there are more creative ways to use them besides just throwing them at the opponent. It has been said that there are even ways to link some interactables into your combo. With all the new ways that you can use them, I’m sure interactables will still play a big role; it will just be different than the way they were used in Injustice.

Jemmillion: In Injustice: Gods Among Us, the interactables were unblockable. This is the first time that they’re being entered into a Mortal Kombat game; however, they’re going to be blockable this time around. What are your views on this change?

Tom Brady: This is a HUGE and much needed change. Being able to throw unlockable, high damaging objects becomes a huge advantage in certain situations and match ups. Making them blockable still gets the environment involved in the gameplay without giving characters as much of a game changing stage and/or positional advantage.

Jemmillion: What are your views on the new characters D’Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, and Kotal Kahn?

Tom Brady: I absolutely love the new characters. Every time I see a new reveal I think to myself “I can’t wait to play this character.” Mortal Kombat is so good about giving you much more content then the previous game, and you see that with the additions of so many awesome new characters.

Jemmillion: How do you think Mortal Kombat X will affect the series? What about how it might affect the Fighting Game Community?

Tom Brady: I think MKX will be the most complete game coming out of the series to date. I believe it will gain the most interest out of any MK game from both the NetherRealm and fighting game community as a whole. I really think this game has the ability to get huge numbers at every tournament as well as have enough depth and content to last longer than MK9 or Injustice.

Jemmillion: You’ve been off the radar lately in regards to the FGC. We haven’t seen you at many tournaments. Will this be changing with the release of MKX?

Tom Brady: Absolutely! I wasn’t able to dedicate anywhere near the time into Injustice that I did MK9. I’d say I played Injustice about 80% less than MK9. I just had so many projects that I was lucky enough to be a part of which took significant time away from my training. However, in MKX, I will be all in! I plan on dedicating A LOT of time to the game and showing that I can still compete at the highest level.

Jemmillion: What events will we be seeing you attend in the future?

Tom Brady: The next tournament I will make will be NEC 2014. I doubt I will have been able to play much leading up to the event, but I’ll do my best, and I’ll be there to support the game and my community.

Jemmillion: If you could be one superhero and fighting gamer character, who would it be? Why?

Tom Brady: SUPERMAN!!!! He is by far my favorite superhero!! As powerful as Superman is, he is still matched up against heroes/villains who are even more powerful. He succeeds where other powerful beings fail, because although he is an alien, he embodies the human spirit of never giving up and fighting even when it seems that there is no way to win.

As a fighting game character, I’d be Bo Rai’ Cho. Who wouldn’t want to be able to eat and drink whatever they want and still be able to be a lethal martial artist? LOL

As for pricing? The Liu Kang will probably be arounf $330-$350. The Scorpion on the other hand... I'm guessing $1,000... hopefully I'm wrong but it does seem like they have purchase plans.

That Liu Kang one would be so sick in a man cave.

Ready for this game to drop. Capcom doesn't want to port anything street fighter to next gen and killer instinct doesn't look in depth enough of a fighter.

Long wait :smh:

Yea KI3 looks solid but it's not even 50% done yet and I was thinking about jumping on that UltraSF4 to check out some of the new characters they have now. I'm hoping that by January we will get more info on old/new characters and some more stage reveals.

SF II is still goat by far. Nothing to it, just basics. FG chess imo

Killer instinct isn't worth picking up imo. The changing in developmeant studios killed the game. Literally on a downward spiral. Nothing the new team has made or changed is a downgrade
