Pope Francis Excommunicates the mafia.....Also makes exorcisms official catholic practice.

Historically - Spanish Inquisition (one of the atrocities)

Currently - Ecclastical law, which the church take jurisdiction of religious matters, with the Vatican maintaining a jail. It doesn't use it much, but it exists, so the punishment for breaking the rules isn't just 'hell' it's a very real place in Rome, no matter how much it is actually used.

And you're OK with being sent to a prison run by the church?.... Yup, you're way past hope...

No, I'm not. Nor am I ok with being sent to prison rub by any other foreign state. I'm not trying to go to Mexican jail as much as I'm not trying to go to Catholic jail...hell I'm not even trying to go to American jail. But, it dies exist, thus making it more country like.

And all sorts of terrorist groups had/have "pow camps"... That doesn't make them any more country like...

But they haven't had the international influence/political structure if the Catholic Church. There are plenty of groups that started out as terrorist groups but eventually became countries, Isis is probably the most recent(or will be soon enough), but you also have Pakistan, independent India, the US, pretty much every state started as a 'terrorist organization' then became a state. We could go into world political history if you want...but it's not relevant, only relevant issue is, the Catholic Church has been recognized by othe sovereign states as a sovereign state...which makes it a sovereign state IMO...and in the opinion of the rest of the world.

All this is distracting from my point btw.

Well. Tell me. What makes a sovereign state different from a religion, specifically the Catholic Church? It conducts its international affairs as a sovereign state, it has its own gov. It's own laws, it can petition other states to allow its subjects to come under its jurisdiction. Someone, please tell me the difference...we're not even talking about the Holy Roman Empire, were talking about today, in 2014, why isn't the Catholic Church a state?
Religions don't have borders. Countries do.

Ties back in to my last post addressing this silly comparison when you suggest ppl should leave America. What country are they leaving to go to the doesn't have blood on their hands?

Organized crime use to conduct itself as a corporation. Does that make them no different than an actual corporation?

If the US gov. Recognized them as a corporation then yea, the official recognition is the only difference, which isn't a problem here because the international community recognizes the Catholic Church as a state.

Catholics are allowed to leave the religion for whatever else they want, just like you can leave a country for whatever else you want. They are no different than any foreign nation that has its subjects in other countries.

Internationally, they have every right every country has.

Ill admit, in academic political science terms
Country = geographic boarders
State = government
Nation = people

Which is why in my og post I made the point that the Catholic Church is a state and a nation, and owns a country. But, as a practical matter, all three are the same and the Catholic Church is all three, two for sure, the other by proxy.

You can't prove it does or doesn't exist now can you?

This is dumb. We can't prove the easter bunny does or doesn't exist either. We don't take all things within the realm of possibility  that seriously. You don't see me dedicating my entire life to worshipping some crap I made up just because there is no proof it does or doesn't exist. Religion is literally the only situation were someone can make that argument like it's ok. In every other situation you'd be looked at as an idiot.

This... I've said this for a long time... Religion is the only thing socially acceptable with zero proof to back it up...

And also, we do kinda have proof the Easter bunny and Santa don't exist... Because if they did, out parents wouldn't have done all the stuff they do...

technically, evolution is socially acceptable. it still carries a "belief" as well.

nas being a better rapper than hov is socially acceptable in some circles. no proof in that either.

If the US gov't is the final authority you're going by then we need not go any further. The mob isn't recognized as a corp by them and the Catholic church isn't recognized as a gov. of a country by them either.

Overall I think you're having a hard time separating what a country is and what government is which lets you make the comparison to the church. Actions of your country's gov't is different from actions of your country.

LOL there is proof of evolution. Some people just choose to ignore it.

Now I guess if you don't believe the proof that's ok but people who make claims of evolution offer well thought out and systematically presented EVIDENCE.

Something as simple as the evolution of the flu virus/vaccine and DNA analysis studies are proof of evolution.

Did this guy just compare the nas vs jayz debate to evolution vs creationism. I fear for the future of this country's children. :x
I can only assume he meant "belief" as in if you believe in facts and that science is reliable

Pope Francis: 'About 2%' of Catholic clergy paedophiles
2 hours ago
Pope Francis
Earlier this month the Pope begged forgiveness from victims of child abusers within the Church
Pope Francis has been quoted as saying that reliable data indicates that "about 2%" of clergy in the Catholic Church are paedophiles.

The Pope said that abuse of children was like "leprosy" infecting the Church, according to the Italian La Repubblica newspaper.

He vowed to "confront it with the severity it demands".

But a Vatican spokesman said the quotes in the newspaper did not correspond to Pope Francis's exact words.

The BBC's David Willey in Rome says there is often a studied ambiguity in Pope Francis' off-the-cuff statements.

He wants to show a more compassionate attitude towards Church teaching than his predecessors, but this can sometimes cause consternation among his media advisers, our correspondent adds.

Analysis: David Willey, BBC News, Rome

When is a papal interview not an interview? Sunday's edition of La Repubblica devotes its first three pages to an account of a conversation between Pope Francis and editor Eugenio Scalfari, which took place last Thursday. Papal spokesman Federico Lombardi said in a sharp note that it was not an interview in the normal sense of the word, although he admitted it conveyed the "sense and the spirit" of the conversation.

Mr Scalfari does not use a digital recorder, and Father Lombardi said Pope Francis never checked the accuracy of the interview.

Until now, the Vatican has declined to quantify the extent of clerical sexual abuse scandals in the worldwide Church. Statistics are usually available only for countries in the developed world. In the developing world, information is usually only sketchy.

In the interview, Pope Francis was quoted as saying that the 2% estimate came from advisers. It would represent around 8,000 priests out of a global number of about 414,000.

While the incidence of paedophilia as a psychiatric disorder in the general population is not accurately known, some estimates have put it at less than five percent.

"Among the 2% who are paedophiles are priests, bishops and cardinals. Others, more numerous, know but keep quiet. They punish without giving the reason," Pope Francis was quoted as saying.

"I find this state of affairs intolerable," he went on.

Many Catholics feel the Church hierarchy has not taken strict enough action against abusers
Above the interview La Repubblica ran the headline: "Pope says: Like Jesus, I shall use a stick against paedophile priests."

Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi denied that Pope Francis had said that there were cardinals who were paedophiles.

Last year Pope Francis strengthened the Vatican's laws against child abuse and earlier this month begged forgiveness from the victims of sexual abuse by priests, at his first meeting with victims since his election.

Many survivors of abuse by priests are angry at what they see as the Vatican's failure to punish senior officials who have been accused of covering up scandals.

Asked in the same La Repubblica interview about the celibacy rule for priests, Pope Francis recalled that it was adopted 900 years after the death of Jesus Christ and pointed out that the Eastern Catholic Church allows its priests to marry.

"The problem certainly exists but it is not on a large scale. It will need time but the solutions are there and I will find them."

Father Lombardi also denied that these were the Pope's exact words.

Catholics gon Catholic. Everybody know what's going on and they still tryn cover **** up.

after a night of drinking, go to Jack in the Box and order a Sourdough Jack combo, large curly fries, large chocolate shake, breakfast jack and two buttermilks...

go to sleep and say 5 hail mary's.

when you wake up in the morning, you will feel a rumbling in your soul... demons will reveal themselves.

Yes, but what exactly is your point?
