OFFICIAL FIBA World Cup Spain 2014 Thread

Harden got 3 people to pass to on that break, does that annoying euro draw foul crap over just passing it for a easy dunk
i hate that too. If i were guarding him on a fast break, I'd just pretend to defend then let him fall on himself.

He's been doing this for years. Still a top talent in the league but I don't rock with that mess

Has no intention of scoring just launching himself into defenders

USA Gonna get smashed by Spain if they try to play this 3 guard lineup with Davis at Center

Harden, Rose, and Kyrie are TRASH.

The BIGS, Rudy Gay, and the Splash Brothers are gonna have to win the Gold for us.

James Harden doing what James Harden does... maybe he thought he saw someone he knew in the crowd mid-defense...

I knew this would be GIF'd as soon as this happened

TBH, I thought Harden had lots of shot contests, stayed with his man well and other than blacking out for a second on this play, for the most part, solid on D.

Can someone school me on why our guards are fighting over screens being set 5 feet behind the 3 point line?? I get the whole pressuring the ball thing.... but overcompensating by going over screens that  far away from the basket is just asking out rotations to fall apart..... which is kind of how Turkey got hot in the 1st half...

anyways, one more day closer to sube la copa.

The biggest advantage Team USA had over the rest of the world, is extraterrestrial wing plays like Paul George/Lebron James/Kobe Bryant/Kevin Durant.

Gigantic guys who were as big as power forwards, but could move and pressure ball handlers like guards, when you have those big wings, you can just press all night and euro teams will crack eventually.

This team USA doesn't have that security blanket.

That's all I was thinking during that first half. They could use a long wing defender who can stretch the floor on offense. Hell, even Iggy would have helped. Also, now maybe people will realize how good CP3 and D-Will were for international play. They didn't care about scoring. They were strong bodies who didn't mind just playing physical and distributing the ball. This team is full of scoring guards.

I wish Fran would shut up. We know you follow international basketball but he sounds like a condescending jerk.

On another note this black ref sucks.

Meh that's his time to shine

I'm not mad at all ...let him cook

 What about Harden's 14 points on 7 shots, 7 assists, 0 turnover game made you think he's trash?

I mean, they kinda have/had them on the team. Thompson and Derozan fit that mold. Instead of playing Kyrie/Curry/Harden - they can easily play Kyrie/Harden/Thompson. Makes them much bigger to start. They can try to use Derozan at the 3 more often. They also cut Parsons, who could've played the big stretch wing role.

They seem settled into the 2 PG lineup though, not sure why. Curry's been pretty bad and seems like he'd be better off the bench where he can worry less about getting others involved. More about being the gunner he should be. Thompson fits better IMO.

Luckily, outside of maybe Croatia, no team has any wings to make us pay for playing Harden at 3. Which is why I don't think we're worried about not having a mega athlete at SF.

But they still don't have a lineup that strikes fear in the other team. For example, a 2 PG lineup with Paul George, Faried and AD is just devastating. Klay at the three is okay, but not on that level.

don't bother man hating harden has become a meme and people just want to be apart of it.

Condescending? Just because he has forgotten more about basketball than I even know doesn't mean he's disrespecting me by sharing. C'mon, man. He ain't condescending at all. And he's also not wrong, like someone else pointed out.

This. Sure, he did have some mishaps defensively. He also did come up with steaks posting help defense and anticipating passes. There was a couple possessions in the 3rd where he got back to back layups just by using a screen getting to the FT line and exploding to the rim. After they brought in klay for him, in the exact same spot klay settles for an of balance contested 3.

I think it's just the way Fran comes off. The whole broadcast he mentions how he's been watching certain players forever and it feels like he goes out of his way to do so

He's pretty much the expert on international basketball. This is what he knows. ESPN even has to give him air time in weak NBA Drafts because he's the only person who knows anything about foreign players. I forget which draft it was recently that he had as much air time as the regular ESPN panel.
