naturalized citizen. FIBA allows one "import" player per team, a naturalized citizen who otherwise has no other ties to the country.

you must've never watched a pba game or a fiba game...phillipines professional league stay having imports and tons of countries have an import from somewhere else

PBA usually have one conference where they get imports, pretty competitive too. I know other international team got imports too but I'm just not down with that. Not throwing shade on Gilas, that's just my opinion.

Yeah still def gonna watch them, hopefully they'd be able to take a game or two. It would be a big boost to Phillipines basketball program.

Serge did move to Spain at 17 and played pro there for 4 years and taught himself Spanish. Not the same. No shade to the Philippines though, they stay getting ringers even in Filipino adult leagues out here

i get it, and it would be nice boost to have only filipinos and fil-foreigns star, its not realistic given our height deficiencies . it felt like croatia was shooting over us in the post with baby hooks all 2nd half. japeth aint ready and pingris is only 6' 4" ish :\
