We're seeing all this love for Jeter, and it got me thinking.. what is Kobe's retirement tour going to be like?

He's basically the basketball version of Jeter except probably more known internationally.. people in China will be crying in the streets for this dude when he hangs it up

If Kobe has a farewell season it will be bigger than Jeter

The NBA hasn't a superstar have a official farewell season for awhile

Those that don't **** with Jeter usually keep it baseball related while the vitriol for Kobe comes in all shapes & sizes. Baseball also does the farewell tour thing better than the other major sports.

Jeter by a landslide.

This thread was made for my guy @JD617.

.

I think Kobe by a landslide imo

Sure Kobe is hated more amongst the gen. population

But media and league wise? I can easily see Kobe's last year top Jeter's farewell tour

Outside of the all star game..the Jeter coverage hasnt been overwhelming

I could see ESPN getting ridiculous covering Kobe's last year

This is what I think.. ESPN is gonna go crazy.

They're gonna bring in a bunch of 90s-2000s legends to have a round table telling Kobe stories

Kobe will of course get much more love and recognization. Why?
Because Kobe is an international basketball super star no matter on which continent.
Basketball is an international popular sport.
Derek Jeter....is only well known on the American continent and some Asian countries
who also play baseball actively (Japan. South Korea, Taiwan).

For me, the first time I heard of Derek Jeter was because Jordan Brand has signature
shoes for him. Otherwise I would never know as I don't watch baseball at all.

Depends on how Kobe decides to retire. Does he want to call it quits when he's still s solid player like Stockton or does he want to keep hanging on for way too long like most great players?

Actually more intrigued on how he'll retire then when...

This.

Sad day to think of. I still hope he gets another ring before retiring, but it ain't looking to good right now.

Gonna be so sad to see Kobe retire :frown:

I think when we look back to Kobe's first 5 years, only Lakers fans would be sad when he retires.
But after proving himself to be one of the greatest among NBA players I must say it will be sad
day for basketball fans to see another legend retire who gave us plenty of amazing plays and joy
to watch.
I say that despite I was never a fan of him and even disliked him at the beginning.
Much respect to him to grace the court.

Tough to say. I'm a Laker/Kobe fan but despite everything he's accomplished I see quite a few people who can't stand the man for whatever reason.

With Jeter, that man is beloved. For the most part Red Sox fans hate the Yankees but respect Jeter. Also for as big as the Lakers are, the Yankees are even bigger.

In the USA id say Jeter gets more love, world wide id say Kobe off his popularity overseas.

I'm just glad I got to see both of them play in person numerous times throughout their careers.

Jeter and Kobe are the last pieces of my childhood. Seeing Jeter go hurts since I invest a lot of emotion in the Yankees and is the same type of player how my uncle looked up to Mantle and Munson. Seeing Kobe go will be like watching MJ go in '98, for me anyway.

Even as a Yankee/Jeter hater, is there anything negative that you can say about the guy? Nope.

Kobe's farewell tour will be huge, but best believe, the haters will be out in full-force and the Colorado incident will be brought back to light.

I would assume Kobe. For me personally, when he retires, it'll be like shaking that last turd out and flushing the toilet.

Jeter. During his playing career you never hear anything negative about him. Dude was a star in the making from his rookie season.

 I was waiting to see what you'd say but I can't disagree. I love the guy and I'm gonna be sad to see him go but it's a little too much sometimes.

Jeter will get all the love but Kobe's retirement will be a lot bigger. If that makes sense. A borderline top 10 (to some) overall player who gets as much hate as he gets love is definitely gonna be bigger than a borderline top 5 at his position who everyone loves.

Kobe my dude but man Jeter Deserves more praise solely based off the hit list he's put together in his career. dude is legendary with the broads lmaooo

I'm not really sure, but it seems like basketball is eclipsing baseball in this country. So because of that, I'd say it will be Kobe.
