Difference between Bale/Shaw I believe is that Bale moved to Spurs who are a decent sized club but not in the "elite" category of English football. So while it was and upgrade for him, he still went to a club that could afford to take risks and groom him in other areas change his position and watch what he turned into.

Shaw's is at United, completely different beast where the stakes are always high and his price tag works against him. He has to produce and has to produce quickly. Does Shaw have the same mentality as Bale to make adjustments and pick up a new position and flourish on top of the pressure being at a club like United?

Gerv's had a receding hairline since his days in Belgium..

I've actually had a somewhat obsessive fascination with this dude's "issue" from the day he signed with Arsenal, it's one of the most serious cases of denial as it pertains to hair-loss that I've ever encountered.

So you don't think Luke Shaw will be converted to a winger/forward in a couple years? Don't think United are trying to pull a Bale with Luke Shaw?

As for the English thing, plenty people have said on here that one of the main reasons his price tag was so high was because he's English.

Personally I don't think United will do that, The plan eventually will be to play Di Maria and Januzaj in the wing positions once we finally get the squad we want and ship out the garbage currently here, Van Gaal has already hinted he will switch to 4-3-3 eventually.

Shaw is insanely talented and one of the few bright talents England have coming through that you can say COULD be world class in a few years, We don't have many of them coming through now unfortunately,

However i'd be lying if I said I didn't have any concerns about him at the moment though, My boy was in Marbella, Spain speaking with him over the Summer and said he looked overweight and not in shape, then around 2 weeks later Van Gaal said he was fat :smh: , That is why he is yet to play although he will start this Saturday because of injuries we have, He is really going to have to knuckle down and play well because from what iv gathered from people close to the club Van Gaal is not impressed by his attitude at all

If Shaw is as talented as they say and he has the potential, I don't see anything wrong converting him into a LW in a couple years like they did with Bale. That's why I found the article intriguing.

I was one of the dudes who laughed at United giving a 19 year old LB 30 million pounds but it sort of justifies it now to me. i don't think the article was "hating' on United, rather just explaining why United made that move. What I don't want to see tho is another English media hyped player who underachieves, don't want to see that happen to Shaw. But I think some of the 30 millions pounds spent on him was because of that. That's a bad precedent going forward for other young English players.

I'm interested to see this dude play tho, never have.

I think Shaw was only sold for that price because he is English and being sold to another English clubs. I think that's a problem with why there isn't more young English players coming up through the rankings. Like Mou said, why would he pay 30 millions pounds for a English kid with potential when he can get a world class player for half the price, Zouma who has just as much if not more potential then Shaw was bought for 6 million pounds

I don't think it was just the "English tax" (Shaw being English) that resulted in Shaw being sold for so much money. I think Woodward's inexperience in the transfer market which also resulted in an inflated price. He was desperate to make a signing & Southampton & other clubs United did business with new that. It's like they were at the poker table knowing what hand Woodward & United had.

Yea its prolly a combo of both, but remember when United paid high for Rooney when players like Ronaldo who had bigger upside but was sold for half the price Rooney was.

Shaw's price was for the following reasons:

1. Young English talent and because of quota systems, young talent from England will also be more expensive than from other countries.

2. He put up solid numbers for the past 2 seasons:

3. United wanted a long-term replacement for Evra.

3. Woodward wasn't the greatest at transfer business, and to be honest, neither was anyone on the United board. At the time, there wasn't a great manager to pull in talent.

4. Everyone on the footballing planet knew United were in need of a good LB, and Southampton were very aware of the situation. They also have owners who want to sell the club, and were looking to maximise as much as they could out of that window.

5. Everyone knew that United has serious holes defensively but also had a ridiculously large war chest to spend on, Southampton (rightly so) took advantage of that.

 @ my man eiddy with the pictographs. You slay me when you bring out those... I can only image the folder on your desktop that has all of these ready.

Anyone critical of Captain Rooney & his leadership? I find it ironic how demonstrative he was was after the Cambiasso goal. I found it comical he was yelling at everyone to pick it up being as though he didn't clear the ball that resulted in the goal.

United fans - what position would you put Rooney in at this moment?

sort of...
being the captain probably put a lot of pressure on him...
i feel Rooney is at his best when he gets to play his natural game on the pitch, away from all the extra responsibilities off of it...

Van Gaal sees Rooney as an important player in the squad,so we're not gonna see him on the bench anytime soon...
he needs to go back to playing off the main striker though, that's where he has always done well...
if LvG continues with this diamond midfield then I'd like to see a pure #9 like Falcao alongside Rooney upfront, even if it means that you'll have to sacrifice RvP in order to play Mata in the #10...

From the Malaga game

Apparently Messi insulted his Mom according to Weligton, for some reason I just can't picture Messi talking trash

I love it when guys step to Ibra... My son's favorite player. He has last campaign's home shirt with his name set. He has the new home shirt & the third on his Christmas list this year.

I didn't know Liverpool operated on losses the last 2 campaigns. Found that surprising because John Henry struck me as a fiscally responsible businessman.
