UEFA Super Cup tomorrow and the match is randomly being played in Cardiff, Wales of all places, which also just happens to be Gareth Bale's hometown.

Talk about a homecoming and an awesome year for a footballer. Dude gets to return to his hometown a CL champion for arguably the most historic club, and who knows maybe he can score another goal here like he's scored the 2 cup winners against both of Real Madrid's rivals in his cup wins.

Dude probably wakes up everyday grateful he left Spurs and came to Madrid  :pimp:

Even as a Madridista, Bale's most glorious moment in history will be the torching he bestowed upon Maicon in CL, who was still somewhat world-class at RB at the time.

Dominated that fool in that match. Maicon never been the same since.

How's Oscar going to perform this year?

That my friend is a very important question. If Fabregas plays a deeper role, then it will be up to Oscar to be the playmaker. I'm not sure I trust him in that #10 role after last season. I'd prefer Fabregas in the 10 role and Oscar on the bench

Need a CB for depth purposes.

Sanogo has gotten better from last season, still raw but gaining confidence. He's calling for the ball and making correct moves. He just has to be better once he gets the ball/ skill wise.

This is a make or break year for Oscar. I don't think he'll ever be an out and out playmaker that someone playing as a #10 usually is, he's never really shown that type understanding for the game but he's a well-rounded, somewhat unorthodox player who's been inconsistent this past season. He was great the first few months then fell off the face of the earth.

Thing is Cesc is probably the best #10 on the team but he's also the only person who can really play as a deep lying playmaker. Oscar could end up being the "super sub" if he doesn't regain his footing, someone else could be shifted inside and Jose could end up throwing Schurrle out on the wing somewhere with all the momentum he's been building up since the end of last season through the World Cup.

Mayor of Hannover's testimonial match

What a career for Steve Cherundolo

I agree. I like that Oscar comes back and helps defensively but he doesn't seem to have the vision I thought he did when he first got here. Matic is gonna need a partner in central midfield and Fabregas seems to be the only one who can partner him and distribute effectively. Ramirez and Mikel haven't shown they can do it. Van Ginkel is still young and Ake won't play. And with Salah, Schurrle and Hazard balling I don't know if Oscar or Willian can get consistent minutes

Looks like Real will be switching back to more of a 4-2-3-1 variation with 2 holding mids and a number 10 like they've used in previous years instead of the 4-3-3 they won La Decima with. Anyone think there's any chance if Real sticks with that as their first choice lineup that there might be a lack of defense and muscle in the middle?

On another note, I'm excited to see Ronnie playing with a left footed number 10 again like when he had Ozil there.

I think Willian will always get some time because he puts in work on getting back defensively but his decision making is head scratching. He'll pick the ball off in midfield, work his way down the pitch with speed and then makes the wrong pass 95% of the time after starting something promising. Mourinho likes him though so i think he's safe for now.

Season needs to start now.

I think they'll still label that lineup as a 4-3-3

They're set up differently though. Last season they had Xabi as the lone guy in the hole with Modric and Di Maria slightly advanced and no number 10. There's still 3 in the mid, but the "triangle" is inverted. Usually that lineup gets labeled as a 4-2-3-1, but labels aside the last time they ran with that lineup their 2 holding mids were Xabi Alonso and Khedira. A lot more muscle and defense than Kroos+Modric. Seems like the change has been to accommodate the new signings, specifically for the new Galactico James, and play him as the 10. It's a good thing for Isco if they stick with this formation, because he'll be able to play in his best role when he's given minutes.

Also I'm not sure how much bearing this has on what we might see in the season, but if Iker is going to be our cup keeper again he better regain his form and not pull any **** like what almost cost us La Decima until Ramos bailed his *** out

Khedira looked great in the WC... would rather have him in instead of Kroos to balance the midfield out a little.

Last chance for Iker to prove himself tomorrow, word is Ancelotti will decide who to put for good after tomorrow's match.

I personally wouldn't like to see one keeper for league, one keeper for cups again.

Iker would be in terrible form if they give him cup duty again, they play what, like once, MAYBE twice a month at the start? (CL and Copa de Rey).

His terrible form almost cost us the final last year, can't count on Ramos to be there be there to save him again.

I get pissed off every time I see Khedira do the things he does in International play, he plays so well. Then he goes back to the club and goes full ******.

Yep, we Madridistas saw this coming. Ancelotti knew he couldn't truly hold onto his preferred 4-3-3 once James signed on the dotted line. A pure No. 10 hole needed to be created for Rodriguez. The key to RM's bid for a treble campaign is defensive responsibility from the double pivot and steady keeper play in net.
