I see where both sides are coming from but Garber has to say something. He's the voice of the owners and it's natural that they feel some type of way if the entity they have invested billions in gets criticized. Pro/Rel would be nice if MLS wants to be "accepted" by Europe. However here in the US we have closed leagues with franchises and I don't see any owner here investing 100s of millions into a franchise only to have it relegated after a bad year. You'd go from playing the Galaxy, the Timbers or the Sounders to playing the Camden Shooters in front of 2k people. The sport is not popular enough to sustain that model. Earlier this year an NASL player got trade for hotel rooms iirc. The gap between MLS, NASL, USL Pro and lower is too wide. It could work in the future but for now, it's a pipe dream.

Sidenote: Could anyone familiar with the Brazilian league tell me why Ganso hasn't gone to Europe yet?

I also think once American players start breaking into EUR leagues and start seeing that 100k pounds a week, and how many years they can keep playing, futbol will grow in popularity amongst the youth.
This is so true. There's pretty much no money in US soccer. As a recent fan of MLS (last year), it was pretty wild seeing how little the non-Beckhams, Henry, Keanes were getting paid.

Some valid points here.

I look at the FA, and the relegation model works perfectly, but that's because someone like Millwall can still pack out it's stadium (obviously it's smaller). If you watch some of the Championship matches, the atmosphere can be just like the Prem.

I would assume that the lower US league teams have a joke of an attendance, and this model simply may not work. I like the relegation model as I've said before, because those teams at the bottom of the table turn into Gladiators on certain days making the league more interesting. But if teams will drop into an abyss playing in front of 1k people, then clearly that's not a way to go.

MLS will get there...not time soon...but they'll get there...

Yea Garber could have said something, but that something didn't have to be over 30 minutes long sounding all types of hurt.

Kilnsmann is a realistic man with realistic expectations, what else is he supposed to say?

I wonder how the ISL will fare since it's modeled after the MLS...

I'm not sure how it is where you guys live, but I know a lot of better American athletes would get introduced to the sport where I am if it weren't a "Fall sport" and competing with football

It should be mandated that it's a Spring sport everywhere and the pool of players and talent will grow.
did dis dude just say dis?

I know in Long Island at least that a lot of the top athletes here would give it a go and maybe fall in love with the game and eventually drop football altogether if it weren't competing with Football in the Fall for high school teams.

Football players here get ******* b, not soccer players.

Where in LI are you from?
With the Boca Jr academy out here, I'm hoping more camps and schools open up.

On yesterday evening's ESPN FC show, lalas said mls is as good as the La Liga, EPL, Serie A, etc & sometimes even better in "some situations".

I had to rewind the dvr to make sure I heard what I thought I heard.

Craig Burley's expression was priceless...

Lalas is a known troll. If you follow MLS you learn to not take him seriously. Everytime he does ESPN games halftime shows with Twellman, he'll always say some outlandish statement and watch the MLS twitterverse implode. It's funny.

Not really related but I found this video of him back when he was GM of the Metrostars at the time Red Bull bought and rebranded the franchise.

Been a while since I posted in here but it's time Portugal sat Nani and started Quaresma. He has looked reborn since coming back to Portugal earlier this year. Let's hope he continues on this rebirth.

Ganso has been very poor for the last 2 years up until recently, He was on the verge of being written off altogether but then he got his thing together and has played well the last few months, There is now talk about him being a regular in the Brazil team and a European move coming up, It all depends on whether he can continue this form and stay injury free though, Teams in Europe are not yet ready to gamble on him until he proves this good form over an extended period, Personally I think he will move to Italy eventually if he does.

For the resident Gooners in here I don't know if you are familiar with it but you should check out 'The Tuesday Club' Podcast, Hilarious and they have a good insight into Arsenal and London area etc. I enjoy it and i'm a United fan

I want to fight Alexis Lalas.

I need to see this clip.

City enquired but I believe he's another one with complicated paperwork. Pricetag is still a bit high. Maybe 1-2 years away from Europe.

As Technical Director of USSF he's not supposed to say a damn thing in public light that disparages the leage.

If your a C level executive of a corporation, you don't go around publicly saying your product is inferior or that it's not viable in anyway, no matter how true it is.

No USSF and MLS aren't the same entity but they're intrinsicly linked and no one knows this better than Klinnsman. Even though it's not his intent, it's odd that he repeatedly makes these public statements that are bad for the image of the league, he needs to he more careful.

I have no problem with his views or how he's used them as a tool to motivate players since the day he took charge but he needs to do so privately between himself, the staff and the player pool, not through the media.

Lalas is pure comedy. He'll be sitting on a panel with former superstars like RVN, Ballack, and Solari and making them all look like Beta males. Just asserting his Alpha male analyst dominance by interrupting them or just straight discarding their opinions as if these guys knew absolutely nothing about the sport.

It's so true  - Dude walks around with the arrogance of Michael Jordan for some reason. He makes American's look so dumb in front of these superstar footballers and managers. I can only imagine whats going thru the head of Ballack or RVN when he opens his mouth.

Him and his twink submissive partner in crime (or in life?) Taylor "Twinkle Toes" Twellman

*BTW, PSG playing and losing right now, did not know this team is currently 7 points down in the table :wow: They barely have any competition.

PSG's Maxwell just put the club ahead up 1-2 over Lens... Floated the goal right over the keeper... Poor fella tried to reach back & get & ended up in the back of the net...

Ya'll know Lalas is gonna switch over to Fox next year, right? Some of you might hang yourself watching Lalas and Wynalda on UCL studio coverage.
(Not sure if they'll use him there, might just be for MLS and Gold Cup/Copa/World Cup)
