Hawaii - Maui- Booking a trip with the wife. Tips advice?

Curvy is an understatement.

Damn Ksteezy you went back in the dark. We were on the way back in the evening as the sun was setting and that was unsettling. Everyone told us to leave early and Dont drive the road at night.

We left at about 7 am and got about 7 pm

Yeah man, we couldn't spend much time at all the stops because we wanted to make it to the pools, we spent most our time there, is so incredibly beautiful bro, never have I seen such a thing we also made a stop at some black sand beach, but if you weren't a really good swimmer they recommended to stay out the water, I underestimated the warning and got a huge scare, I found my self being dragged in by the waves and almost impossible to make it back as I was swimming against the current, luckily I remember to swim to the side, my wife didn't eem noticed I almost died...lmao beach was BEAUTIFUL

I made a blog post on my blog way back when I went with some pics, oh and DONOT waste your money on the Garden of Eden (I think that's the name) is where they filmed the opening scene for Jurassic Park, joint was crapppp and overpriced!

We also ZipLined, that was reaaaally fun, The Westin in Maui is right next to a nice shopping center, which has cheap spots to eat at like mcdonalds and subway, good can get pricey so we saved money on breakfast and lunch and went fine dining in the evening!...a lot of really nice but expensive restaurants right by the Westin

A car is a must, you can just drive everywhere and is much easier, we went to the aquarium, went to a bunch of secluded beaches, it was the best trip you and your Sig Other can take, I'm sure there are far more beautiful places, but not with the sense of security you get from the island, I would have been crappie my pants driving the Hana at night if I was outside of the US.

Good stuff, guys. Headed there myself with the wife for our 1 year anniversary in November. Pretty excited.

U can keep going past the sacred pools and it turns into nothing but dirt and BUMPY roads. We didn't know we should have turned around but it was already too late. We saw like 2 cars for maybe an hour. I'm so glad it didn't turn out bad cause their is no cell reception out there. But there we some nice views lol

Yeah some locals at some surf spot I stopped by warned us about that and the warranty being voided on the rental...lol

Cool thing about rentals out there also is that the island has it's own navi system with recommend attractions...lol

first time i drove the road to hana was at night during a rainstorm, i ripped it up there quickly with no problems. it's not that bad. just a little tedious.

i live on oahu and don't even like maui that much but i'm getting married there in a few months. if you want to eat at the spots locals eat at, try sam satos, komoda bakery and da kitchen (i don't really like da kitchen but it's popular). for a local treat try tasaka guri guri. it's like sherbert. take your wife up to the lavender farm - nice views at a cool little spot.

Dope pics Ksteezy.

The black sand beach was amazing and the swimming was second to none. The caves they had there were pretty cool too

Damn @ksteezy your pics definitely bring back memories.

Maui and Hawaii in general

Me and my girlfriend at the time did not enjoy the road to Hana, it takes a whole day and just wasn't that fun.

Everyone is right though, it is dead at night over there. I can't remember all the names of the places we ate at, but man there was some good food over there. The best time I had there were hiking and swimming in the waterfalls. Ziplining was fun too.

Enjoy your vacation with your wife bro!

i don't like that dude but that was one of the better local accents done by someone from the mainland.

AirBnB a condo or rent one of the vacation condos at a beach resort instead of a hotel, it's honestly not that much more than a hotel and you'll be soooo much more comfortable in the long run.

As for what to do there...I think everyones got it down,

Road to Hana - Take the back way!

Mount Haleakala sunrise- Didn't get lucky when I went :smh:

Snorkeling with the sea turtles

Mai Tais and Ululani's Shave Ice everyday :pimp:

hana is a must but like most said already its a ***** to drive there. on the road to hana you going to see amazing view, there a a bunch of stops along the way. Enjoy it, stop at the local cafes and try their banana bread, so bomb! ONe of my favorite stop is the black sand beach ( Wai’anapanapa State Park) which has its own cave u can walk into. the water there is crystal clear.

I recommend when going home ( or west) from hana is to just drive all around the island unlike turning back and going back where u came from. The park ranger will warn you that there going to be 4mi of dirt road that could ruin your rental, but as along as u drive slow and far apart between car you should be fine. After you past that, the paved road is nice an smooth. This way is alot faster and you get to see the other side of the island. After it all said and done you can say you drive all around the island! But like Ksteezy said before you gotta start your day off early, like 5 am.

As far as food wise Da kitchen cafe is a local and tourist favorite.

IF you want to check out downtown spots, check out Lahaina. They have the typical shops as well as bars and restuarant. There are some bars in lahaina and kihue but nothing like oahu or la or any major city.

The whole 9pm thing is why I hate Maui. I need something to open late whether it be a food spot or a bar. I was at Maui for a couple of days at a wedding and I just didn't like it compared to Oahu. I think Oahu has it all at least with nice spots, food, night life, beaches, etc.

I hope these upcoming hurricanes pass quickly and quietly. Stay safe out there, Hawaii.

Maui is BORING to me.I can see it being fun if you're an old person who only cares about scenery, but I just wanted to leave after a day there.

Go to Oahu if you want to enjoy your trip

Maui is fun if you have a crew of folks. My homie that got married out their had a huge rented house for like 6 couples and some. It had a pool and almost an outdoor communal living room area with bonfire. They were out their for almost a week and I heard they had tons of fun. Just BBQ'd all day and drank and what not. For couples and smaller parties, it's just not something you can do for more than 2 days.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way about Maui night life

. I hope everyone is safe out there.

hmmm, it looks like it'll be Oahu for me and the wife then as I'd rather take those above rather than just "boring" scenery. You guys have any activities/restaurant recommendations in Oahu?

If you really wanted to see Maui. Just go Maui first then head to oahu. Just not the other way around.

Yeah nightlife in Maui is nonexistent, but who's traveling all the way to Hawaii for restaurants and a nightlife?...I can have all that in NY or LA for those of you on the west coast...I'm there to absorb the view, the scenery and culture you will not get elsewhere in the mainland...going to the islands looking for a crazy nightlife is a waste, specially if you come from a major city, don't think Oahu won't leave you any less disappointed in those regards about nightlife, although certain spots in Waikiki close later than spots in Maui, is not like you out there partying in Vegas....those spots are simply little bars Wet Willies steez, ain't not one person walking around glamoured up in any island to go party...and food quality Maui probably has better restaurants than Oahu.

Want nightlife, hit up Vegas bro...lol

Wish I would have done that too, since Maui is done after 9pm it would have been a much smoother adjustment with jetlag coming from NY

I'm not into picture-taking scenery like you and restaurants and activities are actually the biggest selling points of places I decide to vacation at. Maui can't just be dead after 9pm, can it? I'm not expecting anywhere near a Vegas nightlife-type of experience but I do wanna get my drink on and have a good time and see luau's and stuff and it not look like a deserted beach that early into the night.

But maybe a day or two there and then Oahu is indeed a win-win, so i may have to go that route.

This. The food is great on Maui, but the scenery completely makes up for the lack of nightlife.

F a nightlife if you going to Hawaii . All about chillin on the beach with a blanket and your shawty at night.
