"Officer involved shooting in the sixth district. Suspect brandished knife at @slmpd officers," wrote Chief Sam Dotson.
Capt. Garon Mosby, with the St. Louis Fire Department, said a male subject was pronounced dead.
It was not immediately clear whether the officer killed him. The investigation is ongoing.

From a reality standpoint, you never point a loaded gun at anything your not willing and able to kill. Now look at size comparisons between your torso and your arm/leg/head. Notice the size difference? The cops are taught to go for center mass because there is less chance of missing and hurting someone else. So when the "SITUATION" dictates the officer has no other choice than deadly force, shooting to stop the threat usually ends in fatalities.

Chicago had more than double it's current murder rate 20 years ago.
Chicago, the so called murder capital that nobody is concerned about, had only 415 murders in 2013...it's lowest rate since the 60's. Over 40 years.
Look at New York now.
All major cities are like that.

I mean....im asuming police are trained to have some kind of aim.
I understand completely what youre saying but considering the circumstances and all the tension youd think a police woulduse better discretion at this point. Or just use a taser like lamekilla said.
Again I dint know how police do things....just an average citizens observation

"The suspect, who right now is described as a 23-year-old African American, was acting erratically -- walking back and forth up and down the street," St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson told reporters.
"As officers arrived, the suspect turned towards the officers and started to walk towards them clutching his waistband. He then pulled out a knife ... and told the officers, 'Shoot me now. Kill me now,'" the chief said.
The officers told the man, repeatedly, to stop and drop the knife, but he continued to approach, coming within about four feet of one of the officers, Dotson said, adding that both officers then fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

The officer had his gun drawn. I dont know anyone stupid enough to charge a officer who already shot at you and miss and have the gun drawn on you

It's tough. I work with a guy who does police counseling... it's a really hard job. Very high divorce, depression and addiction rates. You can feel yourself becoming negative and racist. That's when they suggest you quit, but then what?
