Black Culture Discussion Thread

We need people starting businesses. Seeing that we like to pump out money to all these designers who don't like us and are already spending $200 on shoes, I can't understand why we aren't more involved in clothing & shoes.
TRULY we do bruh...Thats why I have no respect for JAY-Z anymore from 99'-05' ROCAWEAR was top dawg..Dude was promoting ROCAWEAR like mugf then dude just stops & starts rapping about all these EUROPEAN companies then wants to say slick ishh like "I'M GETTIN MY GROWN MAN ON" quit shuckin bruh you could have easily created a upscale division on ROC....KANYE is the same ways he screams out the fashion industry is racist thats why he can't get his own brand but yet & still he does partnership deals with the oppressors...If a regular joe blow like us can start up a clothing line on IG I know KANYE can....These rappers are ***** man they glorify the ills of the hood but tell cats make money & move out the hood instead of putting money & business back into the to hood.....

I said that exact same **** on Twitter and some lame Yeezy fanatic tried to argue I was the one being ignorant.

A lot of people have this Kanye mentality of wishing the dominant society would let them in the door instead of just saying F it and build their own house. Especially when you have the resources to do so.

I'm about to start reading a book titled African Voiced of the Atlantic Slave Trade. We often hear about slavery through the records of Europeans, but this book focus on the trade from the African perspective.

Synopsis:

"It's an awful story. It's an awful story. Why do you want to bring this up now?--Chief Awusa of Atorkor

For centuries, the story of the Atlantic slave trade has been filtered through the eyes and records of white Europeans. In this watershed book, historian Anne C. Bailey focuses on memories of the trade from the African perspective. African chiefs and other elders in an area of southeastern Ghana-once famously called "the Old Slave Coast"-share stories that reveal that Africans were traders as well as victims of the trade.

Bailey argues that, like victims of trauma, many African societies now experience a fragmented view of their past that partially explains the blanket of silence and shame around the slave trade. Capturing scores of oral histories that were handed down through generations, Bailey finds that, although Africans were not equal partners with Europeans, even their partial involvement in the slave trade had devastating consequences on their history and identity. In this unprecedented and revelatory book, Bailey explores the delicate and fragmented nature of historical memory."

Let us know what you think and if it has anything that goes against what we've been taught as far as slavery.

I was looking at the site @LuckyLuchiano  posted with the slave inventory and if I'm interpreting it right, North America had the least amount of slaves imported next to Denmark.

What I am starting to believe happened goes against everything we've been taught in history.

I think the majority of black people in america came from black people that were already here. They were called the Wa****aw Moors. These people (us) are the true descendants of Ancient Kemet. If you get into the history books the people of dynastic kemet say they didnt build the pyramids and inherited it from a culture far more advanced then their own. (This isn't my attempt to make everything about egypt either)

Thousands of years ago we left out of Africa and settled in the west. As we migrated west we left pieces of our culture everywhere.

The West african tribes all say they started in east africa area. When you compare their culture a lot of it is the same as ancient kemit with just a different flavor.

As we set up shop in america we brought our culture which is why you see pyramids all over america. Even the hopi tribe of arizona practice a lot of the same rituals you see the dogon tribe of mali performing. Theyre heavy into the stars and all that as well. When you get in to the aztecs and mayan culture they say they got it from the Olmecs. All the olmec artifacts are of distinctly negroid looking people. In mexico you've got pyramids and stuff as well.

What i think happened is the land was robbed from us starting with the constitution. I'm still doing more research to back this up. But all the original treaties and stuff were with the indigenous people (us). Because of that they had to start the USofA Coporation. The corporation falls under maritime law. Anytime you see a golden flag, it means the subject is under order of the martime laws (military, government, court systems)

Mind you all the above is over the course of probably at least 50,000 years.

Just a few thoughts that come to mind:

-The earlist settlers couldn't feed themselves. I find it hard to believe they developed a sanitation system that would be necessary to bring about the amount of slaves they claim.

-Out of the 300,000 or so that made it here, how many slaves were compliant. How many died of illness and other various reason. Would that number be sufficient enough to build a country on?

-Other slave import countries had slaves that were estimated to be in the millions. If you are enslaving the same people the intellect should have a median level. How come the countries with a vast amount more didn't build something comparable to what america has done (which makes me think they inherited what was already here in the first place)

-I could easily see the mind control factor in this. Brainwash the masses into thinking that their history in america started as slaves that way they never knew what was stolen from them in the first place. When they try and trace their origins instead of starting here, we'd be looking back in africa.

Like i said this just a theory I'm still trying pan out myself and look for some of the faults so im curious of others input.

Majority of the Slaves were sent to Brazil, and I always said the Natives of America were African simply because the Celebratory Rituals and story telling etc are sooooo Similar to that of West Africans. Africa is literally a straight shot to South America, see even novice Sailors could make that journey.

Exactly.

Blackfoot? most people i know with black feet have hair like me.

But these dudes showed up to america thinking they were in India, and we're supposed to accept that they made countless successful trips to a land they could barely navigate to.

Or you can get past your ego and post some useful information. You're probably not capable of that and just one of the dudes who sits on the sidelines and spectates.

It's all good tho cause I got love for you no matter how much salt you got in your heart.
Peace and love Mr. Gwap

im gonna read this thread from start to finish

ill check back in about 4-5 business days

"Here’s some good news you probably won’t read a lot about: Black and Latino students have cut their dropout rates by more than half over the past ten years. Black students have nearly closed the gap with white students with just 8% leaving high school last year.

According to a new Pew Research Center report, these declines have driven the lowest U.S. dropout rate ever recorded, with just 7% of 18- to 24-year-olds leaving school in the last year. Read more from Pew.

This good news raises a lot of interesting questions, namely, why is it so underreported and why does the media put so much attention on the failings of Black youth instead of investigating what interventions have driven the increase in high school graduation"

I think on the subject of black owned business's and economic power, this venture in this day is unachievable without drastic and radical action.

Supporting black owned business's and central commercialized business would not even balance out the level of economic strength. To make a difference people would have to marginally deny their business support without making it seem like a boycott. I know it sounds crazy but it is true, it's selfish and risky but truly the only effective way to go about it.Places we shop based on impulse and convenience, whose revenues probably consist of at least 60% coming from people of color(like wal-mart, mcdonalds, etc.). We take our dollar out of their pocket and in probably less than 2 years there would be a lot more space and opportunity for local businesses to expand and grow

Still in the thread soaking up all this info. Crazy how much is jumbled. Like my father says and to which I agree, it's truly almost remarkable how good of a job white ppl have done in creating this. We're still here trying to figure out what happened in order to proceed. I don't like using positive adjectives for this mess because what was done was all with malice and evil intent. Sad part is, America is and has planned out so far ahead. But the thing that always keeps me going is my belief that man especially evil men can't compete with God and those who march to the tune of God's beat.

PM's are still going out so we can begin to really organize and I guess compartamentalize the efforts and contributions of everyone here who is contributing and whose hearts truly are bleeding for change and solutions. I want to take a failure is not an option approach because I truly believe we can do something special. Something to go in the history books as the spark, catalyst, or even the change itself. I believe enough time has passed since I initially stated the idea. So I'll start with the initial guys who said they were done later today.

Just want to say there will never be a frat, team's fans, clubs, etc that will compare to the bond we have no choice to create by taking on this daunting task. Blessed to be able to communicate with y'all.

ive heard this theory a few times now. my gut feelings tell me that this is how it all happened. coming from northern california to the dmv has opened my eyes to different groups of so called black people from all over the world. like many other afro american families, we have traceable native american ancestry. we are even fortunate enough to have a clear portrait of one of our full blooded creek ancestors, who my grandma highly favors.

i see that certain look in quite a few of us as well, as well as in a lot of spanish people out here. if anything, we are a mix of the red indian and the west african who came here wayy before colombus ever set foot. or we could be the original people who mixed with the asians who came down from the bering strait to create today's so called native american peoples.

i feel that africans and blacks from the carribean get along better because they know that they are almost one in the same still. the blacks of the us dont share that connection that they do, not because we lost our african culture but because we never had that african culture to begin with.

Not my thing, but I'll pledge like $20. They may have to lower the $100,000 value a little though. And the fact that it won't be completed until December of 2015 isn't a good thing.

Just read this. I thought it was a interesting little read. It was a letter from a freed man to his former master.

"Dayton, Ohio

August 7, 1865

To My Old Master, Colonel P.H. Anderson, Big Spring, Tennessee

Sir: I got your letter, and was glad to find that you had not forgotten Jordon, and that you wanted me to come back and live with you again, promising to do better for me than anybody else can. I have often felt uneasy about you. I thought the Yankees would have hung you long before this, for harboring Rebs they found at your house. I suppose they never heard about your going to Colonel Martin’s to kill the Union soldier that was left by his company in their stable. Although you shot at me twice before I left you, I did not want to hear of your being hurt, and am glad you are still living. It would do me good to go back to the dear old home again, and see Miss Mary and Miss Martha and Allen, Esther, Green, and Lee. Give my love to them all, and tell them I hope we will meet in the better world, if not in this. I would have gone back to see you all when I was working in the Nashville Hospital, but one of the neighbors told me that Henry intended to shoot me if he ever got a chance.

I want to know particularly what the good chance is you propose to give me. I am doing tolerably well here. I get twenty-five dollars a month, with victuals and clothing; have a comfortable home for Mandy,—the folks call her Mrs. Anderson,—and the children—Milly, Jane, and Grundy—go to school and are learning well. The teacher says Grundy has a head for a preacher. They go to Sunday school, and Mandy and me attend church regularly. We are kindly treated. Sometimes we overhear others saying, “Them colored people were slaves” down in Tennessee. The children feel hurt when they hear such remarks; but I tell them it was no disgrace in Tennessee to belong to Colonel Anderson. Many darkeys would have been proud, as I used to be, to call you master. Now if you will write and say what wages you will give me, I will be better able to decide whether it would be to my advantage to move back again.

As to my freedom, which you say I can have, there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost-Marshal-General of the Department of Nashville. Mandy says she would be afraid to go back without some proof that you were disposed to treat us justly and kindly; and we have concluded to test your sincerity by asking you to send us our wages for the time we served you. This will make us forget and forgive old scores, and rely on your justice and friendship in the future. I served you faithfully for thirty-two years, and Mandy twenty years. At twenty-five dollars a month for me, and two dollars a week for Mandy, our earnings would amount to eleven thousand six hundred and eighty dollars. Add to this the interest for the time our wages have been kept back, and deduct what you paid for our clothing, and three doctor’s visits to me, and pulling a tooth for Mandy, and the balance will show what we are in justice entitled to. Please send the money by Adams’s Express, in care of V. Winters, Esq., Dayton, Ohio. If you fail to pay us for faithful labors in the past, we can have little faith in your promises in the future. We trust the good Maker has opened your eyes to the wrongs which you and your fathers have done to me and my fathers, in making us toil for you for generations without recompense. Here I draw my wages every Saturday night; but in Tennessee there was never any pay-day for the negroes any more than for the horses and cows. Surely there will be a day of reckoning for those who defraud the laborer of his hire.

In answering this letter, please state if there would be any safety for my Milly and Jane, who are now grown up, and both good-looking girls. You know how it was with poor Matilda and Catherine. I would rather stay here and starve – and die, if it come to that – than have my girls brought to shame by the violence and wickedness of their young masters. You will also please state if there has been any schools opened for the colored children in your neighborhood. The great desire of my life now is to give my children an education, and have them form virtuous habits.

Say howdy to George Carter, and thank him for taking the pistol from you when you were shooting at me.

From your old servant,

Jordon Anderson"

It never amazes me the civility and class the enslaved Africans demonstrate throughout history. Even after going through the horrors of plantation life, Jordon Anderson was the personification of class. Slave owners were savages, yet when the Africans got their freedom all they wanted to do was get an equal shot. We still haven't got an equal shot in this country, which is disheartening.

It is as if our civility goes against us. All of our interactions with Europeans/Arabs have been negative becasue we couldn't resort to the violence and savagery they were willing to put us through. Coming off the heals of Columbus day and reading the atrocities he committed against indigenous people in the Americas, it just goes to show how greed and jealousy has fueled the system of white supremacy we experience today.

100%. I've always stated and felt that. One of our biggest strengths has proven to be one of our biggest weaknesses. The love, humanity, spirituality, and welcoming of others has done nothing but harmed us to an extent that can't even be described. We've been so welcoming and good to those who have wanted nothing more or less than to exploit and kill us.
