18K for a car - what you getting? (adios MTA)

Spend 2500 on a 95 civic or integra. Spend 2-3k cleaning it up. Spend 2-5k on a brand new B18C1 motor. Profit about 7k?

If you have a need for speed turbo it. Race for pinks. Free cars for life.

If this route is an option, I'd also suggest early 90's SC400. How much would it cost to put a 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo engine in that? $2k-$4k? Can't be more than $5k, right?

No need to flex. This has always been my dream car.

Plan on tracking one down post-graduation from an elderly couple.

If you're not trying to flex then get a Camry or a Civic.

Can't believe you shunned dude how mentioned the Prius.

When you find out/see how much money that **** saves you in gas you'll soon change your tune.

I don't think you should go for something with that $18K.

Get something with that $7K you have and call it a day.

You can get something decent and reliable for that.

Don't listen to these kids on here and put your hand where it can't reach... remember most of them are still young, living at home, not helping out finance wise yet, and have their parents dressing/driving/paying their way.

What does all that have to do with a guy who is looking for a car in the $18k range? Why would you tell him to look for a car in the $7k range?

2006 GS300

This man knows.

Was thinking about leasing a new 2013/2014 something, went to the dealer and found a used GS300. Took one test drive and I was set.

Paid 9K + fees. Had 123k on the dash.

Hows it holding up with that many miles used?

I'm eying a 2008 for my girl, charcoal, 90k miles, they want $16,9k for it.

Going to see it this weekend while I'm off work. A close friend of mine has one (also a NTer) But his has way less mileage. So I already know he's good.

Its the higher mileage ones I'm worried about.

The OP said that he has $7K saved up, but through Capital 1 they appraised him for a loan for $18K. Instead of going into debt with a lender and having to pay a monthly payment plan just work with that $7K that he has. He can more than find something decent unless he tries to put his hands where it can't reach.

I have a 99 GS400 with 188k running like a champ. 2nd Generation had suspension issues but besides that no surprises. So I can only imagine the 3rd gen was much better overall. ClubLexus forums is a good place to check out known issues. Don't worry about mileage with Lexus, they are built to last.

Tbh, the 18K isn't a reach for me at all. And when I said 18k, I didn't mean I was going to use the entire loan amount that was approved. I'd be looking at roughly 11K though the bank + my money. And that 11k can easily be paid within a year (if I stay disciplined).

I'd have a hard time imagining a car with low mileage for 7K. The older the car, generally the more miles on it, and more problems. No thanks, Jeff.

Mine is a 2003, so its a 2nd gen. I currently have a small issue with rattling, but I think I traced it back to a loose heat shield, so I'm not too concerned about it -- just needs a new bolt/ziptie and it hasn't affected performance at all.

Other than that, the only thing that's been needed was a new taillight bulb. $2 at auto zone.

My only complaint is the insurance to be honest. Progressive is taxing a brotha out here, prolly cause I'm 22 but still. Damn near $200/Mo :smh:

That premium gas ain't cheap either

But I seriously love the car and would recommend it in a heartbeat.
