Jay-Z, America's Most Overrated Rapper?

I've never seen so much "Hate" in a publication...

Naaah, let's not go overboard.

Rakim = G.O.A.T.

why cuz he was hot at ONE time?

The Master and The 18th Letter are both garbage.

Jay-Z been consistent.

of course he's done @#%$ stuff too...but for the most part Jay-Z always stayed on top.

Jay at his lowest is better than 99.9 percent of rappers out.

That's why people say he's overrated though. That's just not true.

But for real, Jay-Z might be overrated my some, but he's my favorite rapper, and has made some of my favorite music. I'm not going to try to convince people that they should feel the same way, but some people try to do that, which in my opinion is wrong. I do think that people should admit that he is a very talented rapper.

All that said, I have wondered about the whole "freestyle" thing. I've thought sometimes that his songs might be better if he put in a little more effort, but he still makes (mostly) great music. eh... "It's just my thoughts..."

Yea I understand but dude is wilin'. He expects American Gangster to be wack off of Blue Magic. That's a lames do. Hate on @#%$ they haven't heard based off of one song.

I agree but you might as well stick every deceased rapper in there. Once you die become the greatest of all time.

Placing Hova alongside Biggie Smalls, Nas and Wu-Tang Clan on the list of the greatest rappers of all time is ridiculous.

Thank you! I was just saying that today, how it is a shame that NaS and the Wu are both puting out albums soon, and the only person that has been getting any attention is HOV.

Rakim transcends time. His influence is still seen today in rappers whose style he birthed. And his lyrics still go harder than most of what you hear today.

Ahh, yes. Choose the albums he released 10+ years after his debut. You know what Jay-Z dropped 10 years after his debut? Kingdom Come.

And I don't think they're bad enough to call them garbage. The 18th Letter was pretty good.

His catolog is full of ups and downs. He never had a stretch run like Rakim had from '86 to '92, dropping arguably 4 classics in a row.

Nothing new in my opinion. I only felt Jay was the Most succesful rapper, not THe Best Rapper. He is overrated because most people ride Jay because he has money and he is mad cocky. I still think Jay is one of the best MC's to ever spit rhymes , but I think its to hard to say whos the best rapper. I can say one thing, I hate when people on the radio say its iether Nas, Jay, B.I.G. or Pac , theres to many other Rappers out there that are better lyrically and also make good music.

kingjayxi, thats simply because of jay's audience. EVERYONE listens to jay's @#%$. but nas and wu-tang appeal more to hip-hop heads. Jay's fans range from white kids in the burbs to all the lil wayne stans and everything in between. Don't get me wrong i'm so amped for 8 diagrams and "Ninja" but the most attention is going to go to jay.
They try to take me out the game, but I's alive. It's like a old negro spiritual, but I mastered Tobey. With a splash of Monster Kody, shoot faster than Kobe - Jay Z

The article is ******ed tho for'real...could've been about anybody and this dude made it seem mad personal.
I could understand if he didn't think he was G.O.A.T., but to say he's not on the level of NaS or Wu is ******ed. There's not 1 dude in Wu who can be mentioned with Jay.
Also, dude based his thoughts on this album on 1 song, Blue Magic. I admit, when that was the 1st song that leaked, I wasn't too high on the album, but once I heard the album, that changed.
Eh, dude definitely sounded like he don't even listen to Jay.

But this is not Scribble Jam. Bragging about not writing down lyrics is like Albert Pujols boasting he simply goes to the plate and swings. That's cool, but wouldn't he be better if he took BP? Would it kill Jay to give his songs some extra consideration and editing?

Jay-Z's american gangster = best album besides ultimate victory this year.

Even if you don't think Jay is the G.O.A.T., certainly you can see why or build a case to call him G.O.A.T, if not then something is just wrong with you.
