Don't believe they low balled him, Shaq wanted to make movies/rap. He wanted the Hollywood lifestyle no doubt. Kobe came a couple of years later.

Never knew all this

 from his Wiki page:

O'Neal became a free agent after the 95–96 NBA season. In the summer of 1996, O'Neal was named to the United States Olympic basketball team, and was later part of the gold medal-winning team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. While the Olympic basketball team was training in Orlando, the Orlando Sentinel published a poll that asked whether the Magic should fire Hill if that were one of O'Neal's conditions for returning.[19][20] 82% answered "no".[19] O'Neal had a power struggle while playing under Hill.[21][22] He said the team "just didn't respect [Hill]."[23]Another question in the poll asked, "Is Shaq worth $115 million?" in reference to the amount of the Magic's offer. 91.3% of the response was "no".[20][21] O'Neal's Olympic teammates rode him hard over the poll.[20][22] He was also upset that the Orlando media implied O'Neal was not a good role model for having a child with his longtime girlfriend with no immediate plans to marry.[19] O'Neal compared his lack of privacy in Orlando to "feeling like a big fish in a dried-up pond."[24] O'Neal also learned that Hardaway considered himself the leader of the Magic and did not want O'Neal making more money than him.[25]

No, Kobe was drafted 17 days before Shaq signed with LA

And yeah, they did sort of low ball him, Lakers offered more money but Orlando did MATCH the offer in the closing moments. Shaq still left

Shaq didn't come to LA for Kobe though to whoever was implying that

Wow, I swore Shaw played a year or two without kobe...my fault, carry on

E Bled out here being average again?
Par for the course.
Dude average G, accept it
Why do you only call the guy out for his bad games?
laugh.gif
For every bad game he has, he has 4-5 good ones if not more

You won't accept that he also plays stout defense, which for some reason is rarely valued when evaluating players

This is almost on par with other dude refusing to call Harden elite

Bledsoe is average, yet he would be an All-Star in the East without ZERO doubt

We can argue about the circumstances all day long, but he wouldnt go back and stay in Orlando, that is foolish. Now what I think he would do is stay with the Lakers post 2004 and work things out with Kobe if he had a chance to do things over.

Shaq never actually said "I would have stayed or I would have done it differently" he said "I wish I would have been more patient and I regret leaving". Sort of a difference there

kobe wasnt a top 5 pick yet was compared to mj?  kobe exceeded the expectations for him when he was drafted.,,.,, if everyone knew kobe would be kobe he wouldve went number 1 or 2.....

Florida has no state taxes so i doubt money was a issue, plus shaq said "they have a young team" imo implying to kobe who was already being compared to mj at the time
Stop implying that Shaq came to LA because of Kobe

Kobe "was being compared to a young MJ at the time" yet he went 13th overall and LA got him for Vlade. Folks thought he could be special of course, but nobody imagined just how good with the exception of probably Jerry West

Shaq came to LA because the city of Orlando soured him with the way they treated him and Shaq wanted to become an icon. Movies, music, big stage, etc. Hollywood offered him all that more than Orlando could

Kobe was compared to mj out of hs, he had a shoe deal with adidas before he was even drafted
hs players were still a huge risk, GMs were scared because kg was just a top 5 pick & had a subpar year

If shaq said they had a young team, who is he refferring too, van exel & eddie jones? both who were older than him

Just because Shaq labeled them a young team didn't mean EVERY SINGLE player on the team had to be younger than Shaq. They did have a young team, which was fact

He came to LA for a myriad of other reasons than Kobe Bryant

Dude really said if kobe was being compared to mj he wouldve went number 1  not when you are in one of the deepest drafts in nba history & everyone drafted before him were studs in college

Not that I'm saying there weren't those comparisons, but can I see quotes of these huge expectations for Kobe from around '96 where folks were saying he could be MJ?
