Go ahead, one of u post the stats saying nick young has been a below average defender this season. I'll be here waiting

No seriously, someone post them. I remember reading somewhere that he actually has been an above average defender this season. I could be wrong tho, no shame in that

 Ok, it's no biggie guys, no one get clipped for it or anything.

Some guys like Nick, some don't. Totally understandable. We have some that don't like Kobe, nothin wild about bein a diff of opinion on Nick.

No need to wage war over it. We all have our views.

Let's fuss over Boozer next. Anyone want him back here next year? Cuz ya know, it's possible. :nerd:

according to defensive real plus minus there are 66 small forwards that are better than him at defence

ranked 63rd in defensive rebound rate (among a total of 67 sfs)

E been the one claimin that.

Ask yourself tho, NY off the bench defends, who? Backup SF-SG's right? Not the other team's actual good players, but their backups.

You ever see Nick rotate and stop the other team?
Or box out and get the board?
Or anticipate the passing lane?
Or actually lock his guy up BEFORE he gets the ball?

Nope.

What he does well is play hard one on one when his man has the ball. He does that well. Again, vs backups.

He doesn't prevent his guy getting the ball like Fox or Artest would.
Or snipe in the lanes like Ariza.
Or box out his guy like Odom would.
Or rotate ahead of the ball like Fish.

He just tries hard when his man squares up, after that he's worthless to a team defense.

I would have a comeback but I don't really pay attention or keep track of your posts to know your stance on most things. If there's an Internet scoreboard operator or stat boy position, maybe look into it?

Well we all know he doesn't get boards lol. There's other stats, but u came in with facts. Respect

Not really the full picture given that this team is horrible on defense, but league average for defensive rating is ~106 per 100 possessions. Nick Young sits at 114

Neil Olshey on Nick Young:

And for all the talk about him as a defender, what people don't realize is in isolation situations on the ball, Nick Young's in the top 10 percent in the league as a defender.

That's where he's an above average defender. Does it still rang true that he's Top 10%, probably not, but he's still good in isolation situations, and defending ON BALL.

And yes his biggest flaw is he can't pass. I wish he could, he can't. Doesn't have the skill set. Why? Because he gets the ball in only 2 situations.... Catch and shoot, and dribble to create space for his shot.

There are 3 types of guys who can dribble. A guy who can dribble to create space for a shot, or a guy that can dribble around you. Guys who can do both. If you're a guy who dribbles to create space, the only play you really have is a shot, not finding other guys. If you can dribble past someone, it opens up more opportunity for an assist. Swaggy isn't a dribble past you guy, he's a guy who creates space. You don't need to send a double for that, for anybody, even the Kobe or the James Harden's of the world. But when the Kobe or Harden's dribble past you to the rim, you have to slide a help defender for an easy layup, or open man in the corner. Or pass back at top of the key. Somewhere someone gets open when a guy dribbles past you, and there is help.

not trying to sound like ska here but since when did not being able to dribble past a defender excuse someone from passing the basketball

there are so many guys in the league that hardly ever dribble for anything but can get 3-4 assists a game just from standing around and swinging the ball

How does Nick Young get his points and get most of his touches..

1. Catch & Shoot
2. He gets the ball and is dribbling to create
3. He's slashing to the basket

The only way he picks up and assist is scenario 2. But unfortunately, like I pointed out, there's never a reason to send a double because Nick dribbles to create space, not blow past you. So unless you're running a weak side play (and let's face it, we barely run plays as it is), it's a man-to-man defense, and the first pass isn't going to be to a wide open guy.

And that's where his game lacks the most is passing, and it's because he doesn't have the skill set for it. Which is frustrating.

While he can get past somebody from time to time for an easy 2. It's not something that happens often enough for you to be worried about it. So when the ball gets to him... It's a shot or a reset of the play when he passes it.

I will say this. If I had a championship ready roster I'd pick Nick Young up in a hurry as my 6th or 7th man. He can come in and get you buckets and all his antics and stupidity can be covered up on a championship squad. He's perfect for that role.

But we wont be in championship contention for the life of his contract that's why I personally don't get why we have him now. 4 years ago he would have been perfect for us. But not now. His skill set soley depends on the players around him.
Frankly he's a talented idiot.

This is also based off of 6 FGA against him with 40% of the possessions based on 3s and 20% on long 2s....but guys are not really going at him because he's not the worst defender on the team :nerd:

Both guys better all around defenders because they are can defend on ball, off ball, and play team defense. But just a comparison.
