Even tho a lot of the things D'antoni did totally perplexed me (putting ryan kelly on Melo :smh: ), the guy made treasure out of trash like no coach I've ever seen in any sport. We had bonafide scrubs putting up career numbers left and right. It would be hard for me to name 5 coaches in the L currently who are better than him
Popvich
Carlise
Van Gundy
Rivers?
Thibbs?
Stevens?

I think he's better than anyone else or at least a draw.

It does. At least Boss has filled the role well.

I suspect Hill prefers this new role since it's less wear and tear on his body.

Ironically Hill had problems with D'antoni and has made it clear he did not like him, but he was a better player under him. D'antoni had the right idea of how to use Hill.

This team is never going anywhere with Byron as a coach. Top 5 pick, Randle, free agents, healthy Kobe, none of this matters in regards to winning with Byron leading the way.

Who's the next coach in 2016? Calipari? Madsen?
*I Am Legend "No!"*

*Tracy Morgan "No. No. Nope. **** no. No. NO."*

*Steve Carell "Nooooooooooooooo. Nooooooo goooooodddddddd pllleeeeaaasssseee nooooooooooo."*

(Sorry. On my phone.)

New poll?

Went with:
*I Am Legend "No!"*

*Tracy Morgan "No. No. Nope. **** no. No. NO."*

*Steve Carell "Nooooooooooooooo. Nooooooo goooooodddddddd pllleeeeaaasssseee nooooooooooo."*

Outside of really Pop and Carlisle, there isn’t really anybody that I for sure know is better. Doc doesn’t do much for me. Thibs is ok. MDA is right up there with them. Had we been smarter and given him his ONE year extension like he asked for, we would have had a chance to build some actual continuity going forward. Granted, having him would have cost us this pick, and that would eventually lead to his demise, but getting the pick and then looking for a new coach when we finally get the clue on Byron’s worthless act won’t look much better.

Envisioning what MDA coulda done with a Clarkson/Towns/Randle/Houston pick core would have been so much greatness tho. Gosh damn I would have loved to have seen that come together under him. :smh:

Oh well. We’ll get to shop for a new coach in the 2016 summer when we try to buy a new star to come in and join all those kids. *shrugs*

And I thought the polls couldnt get any more boring

Retirement home type excitement answering these questions.

Since Kobe died/Dwight left, and a rebuild was clearly coming. (As some of us advocated quite strongly the moment Dwight said "Houston")

So no Ariza deal, or Pau/Kwame trade, he clearly was awesome during that run.

The Lakers hired Byron because of all the crap they got for "hiring Mike D'Antoni over Phil." Or Mike Brown over Brian Shaw.. And for whatever you think about Mike D'Antoni, Mike Brown over Brian Shaw is such an easy decision now in retrospect

The common Lakers fan, who blame Jim Buss for everything, wanted a guy who "knew the Lakers way."

So they appeased the people who just don't know any better.

Blame Magic Johnson, blame Jeanie Buss, blame the common Laker fan for Byron Scott being the coach.

Sure they should have ignored them, but we were going to be mediocre, likely different if it was a playoff team, and we were looking for a coach.

Put butts in the seats for the time being.

I believe they knew they'd be mediocre if everything went well so by getting Scott during this rebuilding process the general public would somewhat simmer down. I understand the reasoning behind it. Scott is also I guess a disciplinarian which is good for Randle. However, I just wish they had a coach in place that you know is part of the future. Maybe they have someone in mind that they are keeping tabs on. That's why I threw Madsen out there. I don't watch college ball, but also threw Calipari out there because he was linked to the Lakers before. Who knows.

Messina by the way said he wasn't totally ready for the NBA game (the speed, athleticism, etc). So by him admitting that shows he's not quite ready to be a head coach. The Lakers supposedly were big on him.

I am scared about Jeanie's love for Byron, Mitch's connection to him, etc.

The dude sucks, I'm sorry

He fouled up 4 recently because of the recent criticism he got for not fouling up 2. I couldn't believe what I saw. It made no sense. That was the last straw for me

He's not. He's a blame deflector.

He criticizes, not constructively.

Complains about stupid things.

Tries to make people an example through his punishment.

Openly bashes players.

I don't think he's going to help Randle one bit. A good coach for a rookie is one who holds him accountable privately through constructive criticism,, but publicly shows patience, and faith in him. Also gives the rookie rope to make mistakes in the flow of a game.

Luckily, Randle looks like a professional guy, so maybe he won't have a problem with it.

So............

They hired a coach, because of the commom fan?

Re-read what you just said dude.

They hired a crap coach, so they could appease a bunch of ******* idiots?

And that's ok?

How bout, Iono, actually hiring a good coach, to do a good job, to benefit your franchise? Or better yet, how bout just pay the ONE year the guy you already had, asked for?

Seems a lot better than making some dumb *** fans happy by hiring a guy that the rest of the NBA world knew was worthless.

But hey, "Laker way" :smh:

Mike wanted 2 years. This year which he was on and the year after (team option).... And they said no.

There were also no good options either. Ollie wasn't leaving UConn for anyone. Kerr wasn't going to come here (only looked at Knicks and tentively agreed because of Phil), and a better playoff team with a good future was looking at him.

Fisher?

Mark Jackson? Or how about Kurt Rambis?

Or maybe your guy George Karl?

Sometimes the answer forces you to look at the equation. May have been a **** reason to hire Byron but you have similar results in every other choice. A guy who stinks or someone who may be decent but will be gone in a couple of years anyway.

Dudes wanna tank and then blame the coach for the team being trash

Enough with the foolishness, get Jeanie on my line do we can discuss trading these picks for Boogie

Because in the battle of results vs development, Byron is miserably failing at both.

Who on this roster is even worth developing other than Clarkson? And Scott gave him the green light

Scott not tryna win or lose games, his only focus is developing Jordan Clarkson

Last night he did. Clarkson has been conspicuously absent in the 4th qtr of a bunch of games in favor of Ellington and others. So yeah he's been failing on both fronts. Plays the vets a lot more than he should thereby risking the tank and not giving the young guys (Kelly, Black, etc) quality time...double whammy.
