Wells Fargo Employee asks for the entire company to get a 10K raise vol: Dude made a good argument

I worked for CBS Sports as a temp for nearly 3 years and never got a single raise. There was no benefit to being a temp and they refused to bring us as permanent because it would probably cost them more

Damn, thats dirty.

I just hired some folks for part time seasonal work, I gotta keep them under 30 hrs per week otherwise they would be full time eligible.

I write for Bleacher Report and for the most part, they have 0 desires of ever offering me a paid position. Same goes for most of their writers. Only a select few that contribute content actually get paid. It's a joke when you think about it. The company banks on our content and the ad revenue generated by it but we're not allowed to get paid.

do you write good articles? would it go against your contract if you posted them on a personal blog or so? srs question.

The real question is after 7 years with WF, why hasn't he tried moving up the ladder to a bettter, higher paying position? $11/hr. is pretty standard teller pay no matter which bank you work at. Honestly, it doesn't require a whole lot of skill either beyond being able to pay attention, use common sense, and data entry. I worked at a bank in college and within a couple months after graduating, was promoted to a higher paying position.

His main argument against income inequality is that "you have it, so why not give me some" instead of "how can I add more value to justify you paying me more". The mindset among our generation has become one of greed rather than self improvement and hard work.

So you write articles for this website for free?

Yep, but it's just once a week and it's about my favorite sports team (Knicks) so I don't mind too much. It's ******** though from a macro perspective.

I won't say I write anything great cause honestly, it's tough to find that motivation, but I'm a good writer overall. That second question, I honestly don't remember the answer. I think I could link my stuff but not necessarily copy and paste it on a different venue. I never signed a contract though so it's like if I did it, the worst they could do is yell at me.

Funny thing is, this is a company that was bought by Turner Sports for half a billy a couple of years ago. They could afford to throw some bones our way but they choose not to. Only people they pay are the big shots they swayed from other newspapers/sites and a select few in house writers that are in their offices daily. Their whole thing is, we give you exposure and we're a good reference for you, which is cool and true, but overall it's like man, you're banking on our content and we get nothing.

^ I would prefer you not make generalizations about an entire generation based on your limited sample of individuals.

You can't go anywhere without hearing about the "entitlement" of millennials (the generation Im assuming you're referencing) . About how lazy, spoiled, and unmotivated this generation is. Which is just flat out untrue.

If there's a generation that has "become one of entitlement rather than self improvement and hard work", look at your parents and grandparents generations. Old people suck this countries resources dry. But they (old people) have a better, more unified lobby (AARP) and vote at rates higher than young people.

No disrespect to you crcballer55, I see you post often and most everything you say is reasonable and intelligent. I just happen to wholeheartedly disagree with your position on this one thing.

So did he get fired? Because just reading and knowing how big corps are I can see them laying down the hammer just to prove a point

The fact that people were strolling out of bed copping jobs 2+ generations ago... Should let you know we aren't lazy.

I'm not going to break out the Old Economy Steve meme...

But I do have a story.

My mom is looking for a job... And she has NO tenacity. Why? Because coming up, you didn't have to search that hard.

Jobs were lined up for graduates..

cold calling? Networking? Internships? Crap pay?

Not happening back then.

I was listening to in the Herd with Colin cowherd the other day.

He spoke on when he came out of college, he was making $303 a week.

Sounds low right?he made it seem like it was such a struggle for him, and that money was hard and times were tough.

I plugged it into the inflation calculator...

That translated to a $50k salary.

I was shocked, in my area a PB1 (Personal banker) only makes like 40 a year before tax.

On a sidenote, Mac Dre's mom is a long time Wells Fargo employee.

i dunno... if the company is doing so well, that's largely due to the efforts and daily contributions of the employees, right? i don't foresee anybody choosing to quit if they don't get this "raise" but think of the good will, improved morale/performance, and positive publicity that could happen as a result of this.

i don't know if they should or not... but i kind of feel like if they had offered out a few smaller raises, bonuses, or awards more often that the employee base wouldn't be so interested in asking for a more impactful amount.

this guy must be a teller, the grammar & punctuation is AWFUL in that letter.

"Last year, you had pulled in over $US19 million"

:x :x :x :smh:

i'm tired of hearing folks complain and beg for a raise or a job.

when you perform a small task/function for a company, you get a few pennies. the bulk of the money goes to the upper level management, it's how every company works.

don't like wells fargo or bleacher report? START YOUR OWN COMPANY, START YOUR OWN WEBSITE ETC., BE AN ENTREPRENEUR.

stop being a paid servant/slave for an hourly wage, the way to wealth is small business/entrepreneurship, or having some kind of professional expertise.

I'm a day trader so I could write about my favorite team and not worry about not being paid. Its still ******** that they bank on the hard work of glorified interns.

If he's making $15-19 an hour, that $2 an hour is like a 10% raise. I don't know where yall working that you're getting a 10% raise every year

Like dude said above, $19 an hour, 2 weeks paid vacation, matching 401k, quarterly/yearly bonus' likely, full benefits (which are expensive af) isn't bad

I think the bigger problem here (and what I face with my paycheck) is all the **** we get taxed on. You're making all that money but getting taxed 25% after its all said and done, gives you little money to play with after all your bills and ****. Then you see all the dumbass government spending and is just upsetting.
no sick time. pto is everything. you can't easily take it either.

you call out because you're sick and you can kiss those days goodbye.

also i need to check my inbox to see if i got an email from the guy.

 right?

All the employee sees is the profit reported and is like wtf why can't they pay me more.

So should Apple pay all their employees at the Apple Store 100k a year since they're making so much money?
its bigger than that. upper management drives nt approved cars, work when they want, etc. while those under them slave. granted, some of them put in work to get there but jeez. its bigger than what i'm saying but its almost 2 in the morning and i'm tired as hell. i may or may not go in some time tomorrow. since i work for them i should probably chill lol.

ps i worked for apple as well. same issues although i will say that apple at least makes you feel like you're a part of the in crowd vs wells which makes you feel like **** if you aren't of a certain status as far as position.

company culture could use some work.

Raising wages is complicated because once they go up, it's not going back down. Overtime would be even more expensive and I think employers also have to match the taxes that are taken out of paychecks so another expense. It's probably easier for a company to give a bonus at year end instead of raising wages. Also, it wouldn't be fair to raise every employees wages the same since some put in more work than others.
