On 9/17 (Wednesday) I brought my tablet into a repair shop to get the screen fixed and was told it would take a week since it was coming from Cali. Invoice says estimated repair cost $100. Didn't specify how long it would take.

I forgot about it and had my sister call almost a week after it should've been fixed. First thing he says, "i was just about to call you....". He never even called me to give me an update then on that call he says the part was wrong so he had to go through another company in China. I feel like that's bs. I told him to give me a time frame because it was unacceptable. He offered me the tracking number. I let him know that wasn't my responsibility and that I wasn't from the area was only visiting from Orlando. He offered to fix it and ship it, I declined.

Today makes exactly a month since he's had it. I pop up today to get the tablet.

I ended up calling the police in hopes that would make him give it up but they couldn't do anything which I understand its more of a civil matter.

The police had me wait outside and finally came out and told me dude is offering to fix it and ship it to where I'm going. I asked police would they trust dude after what I've told them, one cops says he wouldn't trust them to fix a flat.

Could I afford the $100? Yes but its the principle.

I'd like to take him to court. I'm not sure what the value of the tablet is at this time.

School me. :nerd:

*As soon as I walked into the shop I had a bad feeling about using them to fix it but my sister got her laptop fixed there and they were charging $75 less than so I decided to give them a chance.

Not sure why this didn't post in the OP.

Did you get the tablet back? Try a mall kiosk. They'll fix it same day (pending it a popular tablet i.e. Ipad samsung).

I was searching locally and the one other place I found was charging $175.

It's a Nexus 7 2nd gen.

He refused to give it back until I paid him $100.

What's wrong it? Like was the screen cracked? Also was he offering 100 flat to replace the screen or did you have to buy the part yourself?

He was charging $100 for repair plus part then he tried to tell me the part was $100 alone but I saw the screen say $57.23.

that's what you get for going to a bodega to get your tablet fixed....

I know man. I knew it was a bad idea but it was either I go to someone who was charging the price of a used one to fix or these janky people. I didn't want to fix it myself.

Aight so after some research. It looks like he has a cash flow problem. Meaning he has to wait for a job to be paid off to use that money to finance new jobs. The whole coming from china thing doesn't make sense unless he has a bulk supplier.

Also a hundred for screen repair on a tablet of that price range to me isn't worth it since the price of parts isn't included. You could get a refurbished or a used Nexus 7 for around the same price its going to cost to fix this one.

EDIT:
I would contact one of the local reporters, I know there's a reporter out here that usually goes after guys like that. Either way I don't think he's scamming you, he's just horrible at customer service.
