An 11-year-old boy from Howell, Michigan shot dead a rare albino deer with his crossbow while on a hunting trip with his father last Monday.
While a child being able to hunt a deer may seem like a long shot, it's even more unlikely is that one could nab an elusive albino deer.
Gavin Dingman shot the buck while being supervised by his father Mick Dingman on a hunting outing.

'He kind of feels like a rock star right now. Everyone is calling, all of the hunting shows and hunting magazines,' Mick Dingman told the Livingston Daily.
This isn't the first time the Dingmans have spotted the albino deer either.
They've seen the majestic white buck several times in the past couple of years and have taken photos of it.
'The whole neighborhood is familiar with it. Quite a few of the guys in the neighborhood were trying to get it,' Mick Dingman said.

While Mick is proud of his son, he's received some criticism from outsiders for letting his son take a shot at a deer.
'I've had people tell me, "You should have taken the shot. You don't let an 11-year-old take a shot at a deer like that,” ‘he said.
'To me, in my opinion, it doesn't matter if it's a spike or a doe or a trophy deer. If you have confidence in them, it shouldn't matter what they are shooting at.'
To memorialize Gavin's big moment, a taxidermist will stuff and create a full-body mount of the deer.
'It's too rare and too pretty not to spend the extra money and have the whole thing done,' Mick Dingman said.

There seems to be a lot of controversy over this right now and it got me wondering... What are NTs thoughts on this case and Hunting in general ?

Deer are over populated to begin with. It is rare and a nice trophy but he is actually helping a species from spreading a genetic mutation. It's no different than killing a hermaphrodite white tail. It's a genetic mutation from over population and breeding. It helps keep them healthy.

Yall act like an albino deer will never happen again.

the albino characteristic as a whole is an anomaly b. Very rare. Sometimes there actually is only one. If it didnt get a chance to mate and pass on that abnormal gene strain, duke might've been it. I don't rock with hunting. I'm not into killing for sport.

I have a problem with the killing of endangered or near endangered animals. I have no qualms with hunting an animal that's only rare by virtue of a congenital disorder. Good for him.

I don't hunt and I am COMPLETELY against trophy hunting, but let me say this;

that deer does not know that he is an albino deer. the rest of the deer population in that particular network of organisms to not know that he is an albino deer. all they know is that he is a deer. he does not contribute more the his ecosystem than the other deer do, and the other deer do not contribute more than he does. they all have the same job and they are all the same species of animal. the only difference is that one is much more rare than the rest. with that said, I don't think that this should be treated any differently than it would be if it were a regular deer that was killed.

You guys realize deer hunting saves human lives. There are thousands of crashes every year from deer that causes over a billion in damages and claims the lives of over 200 people per year. Imagine if there wasn't hunting. Who knows how high those numbers could grow.

Would you rather a human smack into a deer at 70 mph on the highway and gore a human through the neck and have the deer suffer to death. Or avoid the situation as much as possible by a skilled hunter who kills the deer humanely and uses the deer for sustenance?
