Lowe's Newest Sales Associate - A robot Vol. Dey took our jerbs

Infinite loop bro. The workers are expendable because nobody cares to keep the job that pays trash. The company pays trash because the workers are expendable.

what does a minimum wage, "crew member" do for McDonalds that should net them that type of salary tho?
Thats the reason mostly teenagers work the registers at McDs...

"Worth" of an employee is kinda subjective. I think people dismiss fast food workers because of their pay. Receptionists literally sit down and answer phones (imo far more "worthless") and they get paid a livable wage.

This.

How do you like flying in a plane with a pilot that has to have a second job because his skills can't feed him?

Commercial pilots earn on average 35k a year in the US after obtaining a 4 year degree, going through flight school, and passing a stringent physical test. Entry-level salaries in commercial airlines are around 16-20k a year.

Devaluing work through wage suppression may have the short term effect of lowering expenses for a business (and/or increasing profits), but one of the far reaching consequence (and the most important IMO) is the decrease in standards across the board, which result in a lower quality of service rendered and ultimately, a lower quality of life for all.

Robot cops tho..............................................................

What happened to pilot's union under the Regan administration was a shame.

A lot of these problems started with that administration and it's only gotten worse.

Trickle down economics bro... It'll work, it just takes decades... You'll see.

No one is gonna care about helping these folks until they start ******** in your Big Macs

And  @ people saying "That's why teenagers work the registers at McDonald's"

You obviously haven't been to a fast food place in Los Angeles

I don't understand these salaries yall are posting....

"In May 2012, the median annual wage for airline pilots, copilots, and flight engineers was $114,200. The median annual wage for commercial pilots was $73,280 in May 2012."

The life of an airline pilot lost its glamour a long time ago. The cost of flight training can top $100,000, and the entry-level pay at regional airlines, which handle roughly half of U.S. flights, for years hovered between $17,000 and $22,000 a year. The resulting nationwide pilot shortage is putting a squeeze on regionals, and ultimately some may not survive. A recent report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) found 11 of 12 regional airlines fell short of their hiring targets in the past year.

Here's what a pilot has to say about the pay structure in the profession:

http://thetruthabouttheprofession.weebly.com/professional-pilot-salaries.html

Let me start off by discussing hourly pay rates. Very often, you'll hear a pilot school recruiter or a TV reporter or read in the media a quote or statement that a professional pilot, "earns XX.XX amount per hour...." For example, one time on CNBC I heard a regional airline management representative trying to defend entry level regional airline pilot wages by proudly claiming that a new pilot at his airline earns twenty dollars an hour! Now to the general public, that's a pretty good wage. I mean, just doing round numbers in your head that's ($20/per hour) x (40 hours per week) x (52 weeks per year), right? That's over 40 grand a year, right? Wrong!

Pilots aren't paid like any other hourly worker in other professions. Despite the fact that professional pilots work 8, 10, 12 hour+ days just like any other professional, they are only compensated for the time considered "in flight." For most flying jobs, unless it's a salaried position, that usually means that they are paid from when the parking brake is released at the departure point until the brake is set upon arrival at the destination.

So, if they get paid $20/hr, but only record 1000 flying hours (or less) in a year, you do the math...

It gets worse, but I'll let you find out if you're curious enough. Let's just say that in the event that the company you work for goes bankrupt and you manage to find a similar job in another regional, you will get hired at the entry-level salary regardless of your experience.

will have to see how easy it is to use.

those self check out things at grocery stores? yeah, mad annoying.

Only thing that's annoying is when they tell you to put the goddamn item on the bag area.

What about unnecessary government spending and us single people getting taxed like a mother ******? When I look at my pay stub I have no other option than be pissed. Watching ladies come into my workplace with 3-4 kids but no job. How is that even possible?

Yea lets make people even more lazy

Nothing irks me more than seeing "single" women pop out baby after baby. No job, no insurance, just depending on our government to pay them through life

Which brings up a good point. Large companies refuse to pay higher wages so what happens? People get food stamps and other forms of government assistance. Where does this money come from? YOU. Seems like Yall rather pay to keep these families and people afloat yourselves

I see what your saying but it's not like there asking to be paid like execs... many of these people work a full 40 hours and Still have to use public assistance. Hell i wouldn't even care if they give them 10-12 (Which still is barely making it) but to tell someone they have to Live on 15K (BEFORE TAXES) is damn near slavery.

And while i do agree that many of these people should be trying to invest in becoming better or adding skills, what people tend to ignore is that it takes money & time to do these things. It's not like they can afford to miss hours or days.
True, true...

@Gry60
kudos for the info and links, will def check it out when I get a chance.

No problem.

Nothing to do with laziness. We're talking about proper compensation and the eventual shortage of traditional well paying jobs because of automation and the increasing "intelligence" of machines.

Little by little, we are transforming the world into a place where it will be impossible for the large majority of the population to earn a living by working because a robot will do it better AND faster. The question I would like you to answer is "what should we do with this soon-to-be useless human capital?"

But what I'm referring to is people cheating the system to get government assistance. People continue to have kids damn well knowing they can't afford it. There comes a time where we also have to take responsibility for our actions

Absolutely but what can you really do about that? It's almost a lost cause trying to combat that situation :smh:

BUT why not pay those who are actually working with enough to feed themselves let alone a family?

No one is holding a gun to the heads of these people and forcing them to stay with the company or holding them back from getting an education. Neither are they holding them back from seeking out other cities, states, or even countries where there are more jobs that pay well.

Just go take a look at MGM Resorts Las Vegas jobs page and you'll see how many jobs just one company offers in one city in an entire nation. But you don't want to move to Vegas? Ok, stay in your city and work at McDonald's or lowes.

It cost a lot of money to move, it's really not that simple. Your comment about communism is also laughable.
