I think there's a difference between feeling entitled to a response and being angry if someone obviously and deliberately ignores a simple question

Either way nobody should be attacked :smh:

Seeing this video make the rounds on here and on other outlets, both sides are making some pretty egregious arguments.

It seems neither side has created dialogue to understand the other sides issues.  Just a bunch of accusations and uninformed bias.

I feel where alp is coming from on the disrespect part, but in no ways does that warrant any type of physical or even angry verbal response. That anger is what gets people in the system.

The situation I mentioned where the lady straight stared at the tourist asking for directions and ignored him as if he was non existent disgusted me because she came across as totally classless.

God forbid she were to get lost or stranded on the road with her phone dead and potential good Samaritans ignored her or ignored her asking for directions she wouldn't like it when someone pulled the same thing on her.

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with rejecting a person your not feeling, but its a way to do it and a way not to do it. If some precious looking girl I'm not attracted to tries to hit on me, ill reject her, but I'm not going to make a fool out of her either and disrespect her in front of everyone around us because I'm not a crummy person.

Its a time and a place to be a douche, and its other times its not necessary.

theres really no sides and issue here. its mostly dudes hollering at girls and getting rejected. it is what it is, commonplace in nyc.

I can see how this can be uncomfortable for a woman, especially the dudes who kept following her. Most people get on guard when a stranger approaches them in public. Think about how you feel when a bum comes up to you trying to spark a convo, or someone is trying to get you to buy something. Dudes are going to shoot their shot, it's been that way since the beginning of time. Stalking and being super thirsty is not a good look though.

exactly, you get what im saying. I was thinking of your example anyway when I was formulating my responses. Maybe I came off too strong ( I do that sometimes), but nowhere do i agree with physical reactions to someone simply ignoring you. Im just saying that i don't blame the person who would react in a somewhat violent manner in the situation. I personally have never punched anyone off of that, i can control my emotions and am not trying to get locked up over something petty like that. At the same time if someone just dubs me like that ima probably curse em out at least a little bit just out of principle. Different situations warrant different responses. If a guy is listening to music and doesn't respond to me i will assume he could not hear me, no need to pay it any mind. But if im directly in front of someone face to face asking for directions and they dub me its a problem. maybe not worth scrapping over but definitely disrespectful

I have headphones in about 98% of the time just to minimize possible awkward social encounters such as these.

But typically I speak (simple "hello", "how you doing", etc) to any one that makes eye contact for too long  however I try to keep conversations with strangers as short as possible.

Of course I've been called a ***** or another unwarranted derogatory term by a complete stranger but it takes a bit more than that to offend me so I normally just keep it moving

why are so many of these idiots in new york though. this is not a recent phenomenon...ny been known for the linesteppers when it comes to catcalling?
too many ppl concentrated in a small area along with a large amount of tourists.

Is that street harassment lady from New York though? Something about her gives me the vibe shes from outta town.
