Official White Privilege Thread

nah. bush didnt become president because hes white.... otherwise any white person could be president. he of course has white privilege which hes exercised many times, but its not RESPONSIBLE for his accomplishments
yes and no...no person of color with his same history would ever become president. so yes it is because he is white.

and yes you are correct when comparing white people to other white people. but you must of forgot white people and people of color aren't on the same playing field.

1 .so if they so ignorant of themselves, how come they always know so much about how to fix/whats going on in the black community?

2. what kind of education is required to understand that society grants benefits based on skin color?

I've read your post some have made sense some have been just right full of hate towards white people

How can you be filled with hate and yet be made they had you?

And this is a serious question no need for you to get angry it's just man you sound like your just always mad

1. White people that talk as if they have the "answer" to black people are the biggest problem i feel like.  its one thing to be out and out racist, but another when its under the pretense of some divine wisdom bestowed only among white people apparently.

2.  The racial "divide" is a hole that is swallowing up POC in this country.  from immigration to this recent ebola scare, its all attacks on POC.   Black people didnt ask to be subjugated and made the literal and figurative "whipping boy" for society.  and they insulate themselves from black people so thats not an excuse and thats not even as much as they gentrify so i cant really see how their lifestyles wouldnt bring them experience.

3.  Its impossible to say its ignorance when racism is so pervasive in our society.  i mean its literally everywhere, and they are quite aware (#crimingwhilewhite) of advantages and benefits they receive.  they will maintain their disguise of ignorance, but fully reap the rewards of being white.

you know it's a problem when you have people getting pissed because Cheerios showed a commercial with a interracial couple and mixed daughter

oh yea, and got upset when they had those kids singing the National Anthem in different languages

What does this have to do with anything?

In the history of history no black child has ever acted that way towards their parents and didn't catch an *** whooping immediately after.

It also speaks to the privilege white children(especially males) are taught at a young age. In middle school I went to a 85-90% white school and the way kids talked to their parents is completely different from how black kids would talk to their parents. Like straight up saying "f you mom, screw you, go to hell" and their parents just responding calmly like this is a normal thing. That type of parenting reinforcing that sense of entitlement and "I can do whatever the hell I want" attitude. Society never chin checks white children and its almost accepted that they act like that which therefore reinforces that sense of privilege.

Most have not watch Maury growing up

Hand2hand is so focused on racism that he fails to see the actual point of our debate.

Our debate isn't over whether or not people are purposely racist. Our debate is over whether or not most White people even understand the existence of White privilege.

You know What type of White person is most racist? The ones who think black people have privilege. There's No way to explain this phenomenon other than ignorance of the actual dynamics of the racial divide.

The institution of racism is purposely created. The actual widespread practice of racism is just a mixture of social dogma and ignorance of the dynamics of race relations.

I doubt the average racist actually understands the true effects racism has had on the black population.

So if you acknowledge you have privilege as a white person does that make you a racist? Or is that not the right thing to do?

Not at all.

I'm not sure if it's a theory as much as it's a fact since melanin can be measured and darker skinned humans more than often have more melanin than caucasians. Tons of research has shown that caucasians have more calcified pineal glands. If there is a theory, I would say maybe how melanin plays a large part in darker skinned folks having more athletic ability or the ability to exhibit athletic traits easier. I believe this to be true. I don't believe in coincidences, therefore I do not think it's a coincidence that darker skinned folks are typically more gifted athletically. There is a reason for everything. # Melanin

Of course they are mad (hell bent on trying destroy us) because they know they can't make us but we (Blacks) can/did make them [emoji]128521[/emoji]

As an Asian dude, agreed.

If I talked to my parents like that when I was younger I probably wouldn't be here typing this

Bingo, they guy is very emotional and comes off as narrow minded. Also very quick to share negative generalizations of white folks, even though they are readily accepted on here

Love how the premise of the thread was originally to "raise awareness" but let's all be honest about what this thread has become...

I totally agree that focusing on the community within itself is the right thing to do. however..

1. this thread is about white privilege... not "how can black people do better"
2. while other minorities exhibit outstanding academic credentials... there is the proverbial "glass ceiling" that many hit... Asians, Blacks, Middle Easterners, etc.

There are six Black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, accounting for 1.2 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs

There are nine Asian CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, accounting for 1.8 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs

There are 10 Latino CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, accounting for 2 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs.

There are 24 women CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, accounting for 4.8 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs

So, blacks, Asians, Latinos, and women... comprise 9.8% of the CEOs in the Fortune 500...

And it's really less b/c some of the women are being double counted....

The common myth among black people, and many other minorities for that matter... is if they try to align themselves w/ the white structure and distance themselves from their culture and people, then things will be fine...and that you can reap the benefits of white privilege.

And that's so far from the truth.

The thing with American blacks that's troubling is that it's so tough to trace our culture back more than 200 years...

Knowing your roots, worshiping a god that looks like you, maintaining your home culture's language... I think that those things have profound impact on one's confidence...

Don't blame you for wanting to vent your frustration, and not saying it's unwarranted nor is this a bad forum to express yourself, BUT do you feel that going further into the details of the PROBLEMS, typing line after line filled with lots of statistics and research, is a more constructive exercise than exploring the SOLUTIONS?

YES understanding the problem is a part of developing a solution, but I'm sure most folks in here have no doubts on what the problems are. Is repeated elaboration of these problems, the number crunching, the stats, etc. REALLY that insightful at this point. We all know the system is lopsided to favor white folks, what's the utility in everything typed after "however" and ignoring everything before it?

Again, not arguing, have a sincere interest in your response.

do you not realize how by saying that they are just ignorant of it, that you are giving them the benefit of the doubt?  they know and they take and take advantage and willingly propogate the advancement of white privilege.  like why would it not be in a white persons best interests to fully enjoy the benefits of the system and do everything they can to keep it in place?

you mean they may not care to interest themselves with the goings on of black people, but that is different from ignorance.
what did i post that hasnt been objective?  i post up articles, no one wants to talk about them

i come off as narrow minded how?  what negative generalizations did i share? dont get mad at me cuz you dont like what i have to say or how i have to say it

There are a ton of white people who aren't aware of their privilege and don't even understand the concept.

That's a fact.

for a white person to not recognize white privilege is like a black person not recognizing racism

they see it and know its there, they just dont acknowledge it

I think its kinda different.

If you're white and raised in a all white environment you may never recognize your privilege because everybody is the same race. There are (still) white people who've had minimal to no interaction with minorities. Theyll likelt encounter class privilege and understand that, just not white privilege.

On the flip side, as a minority you're bound to encounter racism, literally there's no way to avoid it unless you never leave your home.

Hence why I don't blame some sheltered white people for their ignorance of the privilege they have, what irritates me most is white people who've been in extremely diverse environments and STILL won't acknowledge their privilege.
