Dude charging $85 smfh
You know what's even more frustrating:  we made 288 of these things and Cap City's had to deal with over TWENTY chargeback attempts.

It's disgusting, and it's been holding up the associated donation.

If we do this again, it may be limited to offering snapbacks on a promotional basis to contest winners, charitable fundraiser contributors, etc.

Don't get me wrong:  I'm glad we were able to make hundreds of fans happy with this release while raising money for an urgent cause, but it's not possible to make 20,000 of these things and any limited release sale undoubtedly brings out the very worst in some people.

Meth honestly I wouldn't even trip if you never did this again. We also have to take into account that we usually have more "guests" than members viewing our forums, that's what kinda leads to these sort of things

No good deed goes unpunished.

You can see the level of complaint we had to deal with from registered members in this thread, and then you combine that with the attempted charge back scams and it's a bitter pill to swallow.

We want to see that the maximum possible amount goes to the charity, but it's been three months now and the procedure for dealing with the chargebacks is just dragging on.  We may just have to cut our losses and issue what we can now, minus what was essentially stolen.

I could see doing a snapback in a very limited basis and then giving them - at my own expense - to people who donate > $X to a group fundraising drive or to people who win contests by doing positive things for the community.  (Posting the most helpful product reviews, giving others a heads up on great deals, etc. etc.)

I know that most people prefer fitteds, but, given the complexity of order fulfillment with those, we really do need a partner like Cap City to help us make that possible - and we'll just have to wait and see what their appetite might be for another run down the road.  At this point, they may consider it more trouble than it's worth and we would be hard pressed to blame them for it.

I do hope we can get something done, but you guys deserve to know what type of challenges we're facing.

what's a chargeback?

returning the hat?
It's a scam.  The customer claims they never received the product and requests a refund from paypal or their credit card company.

Demonstrating proof of delivery is a time consuming process, and, in this case, it's producing a severe delay in finalizing all cap sales - to the point where we're I'd rather just cut bait and issue the payment to the charity than ask them to wait indefinitely.

Unfortunately, this prevents us not only from donating the proceeds of those caps that were effectively stolen, but we have to deduct the cost of producing and shipping those caps out as well.  The saddest part about all of this is that not only will the donation be late, but it'll also be less than we desired.

We're hopeful that we can figure out a way to offset the difference in the future.  Still, it's very disappointing.

One or two such scams would be sad, but twenty?  Out of fewer than 288?  (Less staff, contest winners, etc.)  Disheartening.

Is it possible to check ip addresses of people who attempted chargebacks and etc? Only if the case is true that they never received the fitted ?

Would it be possible to do a pre sale on another run of fitteds?... Have them all pre-reserved for NT'ers only... Would be awesome of the were serial numbered...

I really just want a damn NT hat

In this case I think the shipping address is more valuable than the IP address.

For the time being, we're letting Cap City sort it out.  They've been in this business for a long time and they know how to handle these situations.

Trying to pinpoint and ban the user accounts might be possible, but it doesn't really help us with the larger and more important collections issue.  The hope is to simply win each dispute and correctly charge the customers for all merchandise received.  Now that we're a full three months out from launch, I just can't in good conscience expect the charity to continue to wait patiently.  We'd rather just figure out exactly where we stand minus all of the losses and contribute that ASAP.

I feel like I've explained the problems with presales at least 10 times in this thread... it's not feasible for this product.
