I would waste my movie theatre job paychecks on the latest sneaks back in high-school. These dudes are just antisocial nerds who use the hobby of collecting sneakers as a way to be percieved as cool.
At least nerds who have computers or something else as a hobby are developing skills that will be beneficial in their future.
The sneakerhead trend is having alot of kids invest time x money x their youth into something that will ultimately prove itself useless

A geek is somebody who has intense interest in something and pursues that interest to the fullest with disregard for societal norms or approval.
A nerd is just a socially awkward person.
The socially awkward kids are copying inner city culture as a means to increase their perceived "cool" factor
ie. "flames"
The thing is.... these kids can have interest in anything and it wouldn't look so bad...
but the fact that black culture has become the "in" thing.. you have people who follow interests and behave in a way that is unnatural to their own culture.
Liking shoes is cool...everyone does...
But trying to make up a "fit".... and throwing out slang words awkwardly shows how out of the element alot of these kids are....

sneaker culture is heavily influenced by black culture aka hiphop, but they are not one in the same.
