Paulie can talk boxing.
Before he won me over with that skill set, I didn't care for him. It's the (and I know this is petty) waxed eyebrows and Chapstick steez that irks me.

Why do dudes hate Paulie so much?

I'm a West coast dude who can't stand East coast personality cliches.

Paulie is the epitome of that.

I don't doubt his boxing knowledge, nor his gutsiness and do acknowledge he can box.

But I can't stand him.

This interview made me think Pascal had a better chance than I was giving him. I still think Kovalev eventually either draws him into a brawl or puts him down on his own.

Pascal spoke with ESPN.com during training camp about preparing for Kovalev:

How excited are you to be back in a fight at this level?
I'm very excited. For me, I love challenges, and that's why I choose to face Kovalev. Because Kovalev didn't choose me, I choose to face Kovalev because he might be the king of the division, but I'm the cash cow. That's why he's coming into my hometown to face me. I'm bringing the good market in the boxing community. This is going to be a big fight and, with three belts on the line, this is the biggest fight in Canadian boxing history. I'm going to get well prepared mentally and physically to be the winner.

How impressed were you by how easy Kovalev's performance looked against Hopkins?
I was very impressed because nobody ever outboxed Bernard. He did it very well, but at the same time I think Bernard showed his age a little bit at 49. You can't expect to win a fight when you throw less than 200 punches in a fight. It makes no sense. Maybe Bernard was scared. Maybe he couldn't because Kovalev was doing something good. Who knows? But I will find out [on Saturday].

Kovalev-Pascal Videos
Look back on the rise of unbeaten light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev entering his March 14 bout against Jean Pascal.

You have always had a great chin. Can you stand and trade with Kovalev in this fight?
I could but it would be very stupid of myself. I don't want to visit the canvas, so I'm going to box this guy. I'm going to try to outbox him.

One of your greatest strengths has been athleticism. But how much have you worked in recent years on adding new wrinkles to your game as boxer?
We always can improve in life. We always can improve significantly and physically with skill. I brought Roy [Jones Jr.] onto my team because I want to be the best in the world. And Roy gives me nice tips to polish my style, and that's what we are working right now. I think I have a very good style and I'm a crowd pleaser. But I need to polish my style.

How different is your style today from the two Hopkins fights?
I'm more aware of everything. Sometimes I was doing stuff naturally, but I didn't know why I was doing it because I was not sure for me. But with Roy, he explains to me when to do it and how to do it very well. Roy is a busy guy, but the thing I am very appreciative of him is that he still has time for me. He is down to earth and he's ready to pass the torch.

Hopkins used to refer to you as a four-round fighter. How hard have you worked to change that image?
Maybe I'm a four-round fighter because I am not taking any juice. [He laughs.]

How does it make you feel seeing lineal champion Adonis Stevenson on the outside looking in for two major fights in a row within the division?
Are we talking about Chicken-son? Adonis Chicken-son? I don't know much about Chicken-son.

Considering how boisterous the Montreal crowd can be, how do you stay calm and execute your game plan?
Honestly, you all know I can bang. But I can box as well. If I go out there and try to kill this guy, I might get killed. So I'm going to try to outbox him and use all my tools.

How much of a factor do you believe the crowd might be in swaying the judges if the fight is close?
That's not true. I faced Bernard twice [in Quebec]. Both fights were close and they gave them to Bernard. It's bulls---, but they gave it to Bernard. So everybody knows that when you come to Canada, you are going to have a fair shake.

I will say Khan impressed the heck out of me against Alexander. Devon is a pretty good boxer and Amir had him frustrated all night long. As far as this weekend goes, I'm going Lopez and Kovalev. Berto can take the early rounds but if it goes past 3 or 4 rounds he'll tire out as usual. I like Lopez going the distance. Pascal is a scary match up for Kovalev because he is athletic and has some decent power. Not to mention he's fighting in Canada. I see Kovalev controlling the distance and boxing smart the first half and then possibly going for the KO later.

Yall think the matches on spiketv tonight will be good?

Edit: see Arreola a heavy fav...other match has close odds so hopefully it's a close/good one

I haven't liked Devon Alexander since he beat Urango. That's gotta be like 5 years.
He's awful now.

GGG staying busy but vs a guy who couldn't knockout a straw weight lol someone gotta step up and fight the man

People are hating on GGG on the comments of the articles for this fight. Everybody is straight calling him a cherry picker scared to fight the top guys at middleweight, Ward, and Lara at 154.

I'm with you Gunna. The rest of the middleweight division needs to step up to the challenge. GGG should be able to clear his division before fighting up/down or at a catchweight. None these other dudes are even half as active as GGG.

Berto vs Lopez is a crossroads fight, it's do or die for both of them. Both washed up but can still deliver action. Should be fun to watch.

Edit: placed $10 on the cab driver that Arreola is fighting just because Arreola is in worse shape

I'm tuning into Spike TV right now on the west coast, yet there's nothing but Cops shows. I'm getting irritated man I want to watch this show live. Is it going to be delayed for West Coast?

PBC: Porter vs. Bone

Kenny wanted Shawn to establish the jab pre-fight. Shawn went away from it after the first two rounds.

Things I liked from Porter:
Changing levels. Bone on short notice was overwhelmed defensively.

Body work was crucial. Digging penetrating shots throughout the fight.

Things I didn't like from Porter:
Went away from the jab too quickly.

Hands dropped far too low, was allowing Bone to counter with power punches.

Got wild seeking a finish. At one point turned his body out of control swinging for the fences.

When Bone applied pressure he had Porter uncomfortable against the ropes. Porter's used to coming forward like a pit bull. Didn't know what to do on his back heel, threw Bone to the ground illegally.

I found it laughable Reiss warned Bone for holding. I'm a Porter fan but everyone knows his style is clinching and dirty boxing.

Verdict: The major question over Porter's future is a plan B when dirty boxing is deemed ineffective by a high-level opponent (Brook). Bone unfortunately wasn't the man to test that. We still don't truly know if Porter has another dimension besides effective clinch work and uppercuts, hooks digging the body.
