Age of your basketball decline?

I'm 29 and I actually think I'm a lot better now compared to when im a bit younger.. of course I can't jump high as I used to.. but i'm more smart, footwork and handles are actually a lot better now and my shot stayed the same.

Tbh, I watched a lot of Harden and Curry games. Those dudes rely on being crafty with the ball and shooting.

I do feel a bit of sore knees when im playing pick-up games where games goes for over an hour non stop but that's because I don't watch my diet and ****

I feel like I could be better than that if I actually take my nutrition seriously.

:x Just hooped the other week after not hooping for a looonnnngg time.

Played a bunch of Highschool kids (JV & Varsity)... I swear them kids are on PEDs or something.

13-14 years olds catching alley-oops from almost the free throw lines.

Making Vines and Videos of them jumping over people. :x

My shot is quick and wet, which is the only reason why I was still in the game.

Bout 27. Tried to run with the real ballers at LA Fitness last year and held my own for thie first 5 min then hurt my achilles. Didnt heal for like a month. Thats when i knew i was too old to be about that serious hoop life like back in the day

I used to could roll my ankle completely around n be right back out there. Now i tweak somethig everytime i push myself :smh:

:wow:

guys 27 saying they too old. man, life gets real fast. at my gym its guys 35+ that hold it down and give out work.

Haven't played ball consistently in 5 years, I'm 25. I was alright at my best, shot was good, defense was great, crossover/handle wasn't crazy but I could bring the ball up and down the court and get to the rim on drives. I had gained weight, stamina dropped, shot was shaky and I kept losing the ball driving to the rim

I wanna start playing again, maybe even get better than before. Gotta find time.

You already know! Come to Slauson 24 on Saturday mornings between 10-10:30 a.m. should that not be a problem for you.

We've been balling in there for the past few weekends with good runs. I would come during the week but I'm just starting in

a league today.

Used to be a beast and I was at my prime around 25-26. Once I graduated from college, the pickup games stopped though. Played some for a few months at a local gym, but got tired of paying.

Then I moved down south where NOBODY plays at the parks and indoor gyms are barely used. Haven't played for real since '05 or '06 which is a got damn shame now that I just typed that out. :smh:

Honestly, I'm too afraid to ball now though. Pretty sure I'd break a leg within 10 minutes and I just can't afford that right now.

EHHHH, about to turn 25 next week, and I've never felt better. I honestly think as the next couple years, will be my peak. I'm no slouch either...I play at least 4-5 times a week, 2 hours minimum, competitively.

So hopefully for me, my decline isn't until i'm in my 30's lol

I plan to play until about 45. I see plenty of 30 to 45 year olds out here where I play. The key is just playing at a reasonable, not get hurt speed, utilizing court awareness over athleticism, and playing TEAM basketball. Playing the Spurs style is a lot easier than playing the Thunder style. The toughest part for me is on defense - I hate getting scored on so it's really hard to dial it back on defense. I'm still out there trying to strip the ball, move my feet, fight through screens etc (and I guard pg's) so that is where my effort goes. Offense, it's easy for me to just camp out at the three point line and hit a few a game. Also, playing halfcourt 4 on 4 games is pretty legit too. I used to hate it, but I am a fan of it now. It's a skill game, and doesn't really rely on people just outrunning each other. Everyone gets way more shots and touches.

4 on 4 half court is pointless for me. Way to crowded, imo that's for really old or really lazy/fat people that just wanna shoot 3s all day. Nobody grabs any boards and everyone just stands around setting a bunch of screens.

Btw, since the last time I hooped, I been doing a lot of running/ladders.

Decided to play today and damn I even surprised myself  I was quick as hell.

Real thread. I thought I was the only one with this in my mind. 35 now and the worse part is that people that knew you then, think u r still nice. 3 kids and 12 yrs later since I played. Did a winter league last yr and was awful. It takes a long time to train urself to not try to do what u used to do lol. Was about 6 weeks before I even scored double digits. Since then I play about twice a week. Now my floater is deadly and u better not leave me any room on the perimeter, but overall I suck compared to my late teens, early 20s...

I also think in our own heads we all probably overrate how good we were (as all confident hoopers should). In my mind, i was unstoppable at 21...but in reality i was turnover prone, very streaky, took too many kobe esque difficulty shots and played poor pick and roll defense. I was more Baron Davis than i ever was Steph Curry (reality vs. self image lol).

One thing i know for sure, as long as i practice and stay dedicated my shot will never decline

yeah I don't think that ever goes away so long as you practice it.

my jumper used to be wet, then I stopped playing for a long time and I never got it back.

changing my form/release upon return probably didn't help, I had an awkward release when I was younger but it was always wet. I wanted something more generic and though I corrected my form my shot just doesn't fall like it used to.

moral of the story, keep playing & if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I'll tell you what tho....don't ever leave me open cause the J STAYS wet.

If you close in on me and force me to dribble, that's when the problems arise  .

16...got knee tendinitis from not conditioning and then going hard for HS tryout. Hated running miles around track, sprints, and suicides everyday. I stayed winded.
28 now and can jump higher than I could at a younger age. Haven't played basketball in 3 years and don't plan on it anytime soon, unless i'm getting paid to.
