Not sure how we can compare the 2. 2 totally different era's and styles. Run DMC did a lot for Hip Hop and bringing people's attention to the culture. The clothes, the chains, the sneakers. OutKast made people respect the south in a time when folks didn't want to give the south credit. Whether it's lyrics or sales OutKast got it covered. I respect Run DMC but I can't really listen to their music, it's just to old school sounding for me. Kool G Rap is as far back as I can go. OutKast I listen to all their albums front to back.

I just want to know how many classic albums or singles Run DMC or ATCQ have compared to Outkast.

How many people know Roses, Ms. Jackson, or Hey Ya compared to Bonita Applebum.

I admit, Run DMC are pioneers and legends. I respect them and all that, blah blah blah.

But Outkast has the highest selling hip hop album ever, and you gon' act like ATCQ is bigger than them?

I still think they're bigger than Run DMC, but whatever.

Gipp said they were bigger and more influential. So if you think Run DMC was more influential, then cool. I can respect it.

But bigger?

Nah.

I can't really say who's bigger. Like somebody else said that Run DMC logo is everywhere.

And OutKast got 3 classics. ATLiens, Aquemini and Stankonia.

As I listen to The Weeknd float over this "Drinks On Us" remix, I'm reminded who the most influential group actually is...

...they the real MVP:

Why are we even comparing the two and creating irrelevant arguments?  Both had an impact and an influence in their own unique way.  I hate when we get into debates about who was better and had more influence.  In the end it's all relative and dependent on YOUR preference, experiences and opinion, so there really isn't any right answer just opinions and bias.

I personally grew up listening to Outkast, but that's just because of the era I grew up in.  Your pretty much comparing an 80's to early 90's generation to a mid 90's to early 2000's generation, so of course your going to get mixed reviews.  Although I didn't grow up listening to Run DMC, I still see their impact and influence all over the place.  Both groups represented something much bigger than they could ever imagine and changed the game in their own unique style.

To sit here and bash and degrade any of the two's legacy and pick one over the other is absurd and shows that you really don't know anything about hip hop - rap or whatever you may want to call it.  And that goes for Big Gipp as well.  When's the last time you've herd anything relevant from Big Gipp?  Of course he will be biased to Outkast..doesn't make him right.

Some of yall dudes have a serious lack of reading comprehension skills.
The disrespect is more repulsive.

 @ pulling the East Coast bias card. What's funny is those of us who read and comprehend what this thread is actually about are all fans of Outkast. They're in my top 5 groups of all-time. Age has to be a factor for those of you saying Outkast are bigger than RUN DMC, there is no other logical explanation.

We need to do better as a civilization if this thread made it to 4 pages.

Son, you stay on some hella prude ish. Just cuz you get coffee and donuts for cats in the industry don't mean your opinion reigns supreme. Fall back.

This is what Gipp said:

"They proved to everybody that they are the greatest Hip Hop group to ever touch the mic," he says. "They bigger than Run-DMC. They bigger than everybody. They the biggest. Nobody sold more records than them, nobody achieved musically what they achieved."

Yep. At least at the time.

You have a fantastic sense of humor.

What on earth does my career have to do with what I believe about Outkast and Run DMC? Who brought that up? Me or you?

I had no idea so many cats felt some type of way about me until recently. Lame dudes bringing baggage from previous threads (I suppose) into new ones.

Have I hurt that many of you?

Run DMC was more influential without a doubt. Maybe it would be the other way around if Outkast came out years before Run DMC did. It's not even close when it comes to being influential. Outkast wasn't big on the east or west coast until Aquemeni and Stankonia years. Run DMC influenced the whole damn country.

I've also never been a fan of Run DMC's sound. Just never got into them.

The Love Below is a pile of ****. I threw that **** out immediately.

Speakerboxxx was a good album but damn, Big Boi's official solo album is a classic in my opinion. That ******* album caught me by surprise. His second album was pretty good too.

Killer Mike's album "Monster" and his features. Damn, Outkast is very much appreciated.

Field Mob is probably my favorite duo though. Three albums of nothing but fire. Some of Outkast's production was too wild for me at times.

I don't think it's the highest selling rap album is it? I thought MMLP and The Eminem Show were at 12 mil. GRODT is at like 11 mil too.

I think if you replaced Outkast with NWA in terms of the group who was most influential to rap in comparion to Run DMC that would be a good debate. I think some are just focusing on the music, and some are looking at the impact on the genre as a whole.

I thought someone in here said that.

I don't really follow the numbers like that so I don't know.

This.

Real east coast bias in here

Y'all still bump run DMC? Lol

Talking about bias when you have Dre in your avy and sn

And read what the thread is about.

People keep asking who's listening to Run DMC as if Outkast music is still getting rocked heavy. Not including Big Boi's solos and Andre's verses here and there, these boys are going on close to a decade without releasing music. And that last album was Idlewild, which I don't really remember much of.

"International Players Anthem" though....:smokin (I know technically not theirs, but still...)
