I went to get rid of my high cable bill, what are my alternatives?

Chromecast+allcast+showbox app. for movies. If you have an anroid device.
This is what I use except I have a Chromecast at my girls house and a FireTV at home.

I need to cut the cord now. No point in spending $170 on something I don't use.

Hulu, Chromecast, or just watch it a few hours later for free online

All i do is dvr just to watch later anyway.

Lol who asked if i had a smart phone???? Lol.yea i do

Internet, netflix, sling tv, xbmc. I'd maybe look at a fire tv/fire tv stick, I think comcast blocks some apps on roku.

As a sports fan I could never do this. Plus I watch/DVR too many shows. Need my HBO as well for Game of Thrones and for Boxing :\

I never really watch sports at my house so it's all good.

and game of thrones, .....there are plenty of other ways to watch that

Gonna have to look into some of the other stuff in this thread. I cut off the extra cable channels about a month or so ago cause my bill got up to $210 a month and I don't really miss it. Have a chromecast which is fine for Netflix and Hulu if I decide to sign up for that again and I still get major network channels and HBO for just like $7 a month more than if I only had the Internet service.

Tried Sling TV and I liked it, but you have to have a Roku or Roku stick to stream it to your TV, it doesn't work with chromecast. It says "soon available on Amazon Fire and Amazon Stick" but I don't have either of those so I didn't keep it. Didn't want to pay another $20 a month for something I only see on my iPad.

They do have deals on their website though for a free Amazon Stick or like 50% off of a Roku or something if you're signed up for sling so I might look into it again in the future.

Got in on the free fire tv stick deal, it works fine. My cable package (cost 60 bucks 1st year, around 90 now) doesn't have espn or TNT so this works for me. It does have local channels and others I watch like TBS, BBC America and travel channel plus hbo and starz. The shows I watch on those channels aren't on a schedule anyways, so if hbo goes standalone i'm off this joint. XBMC fills in the gaps.

Y'all cord cutting dudes never gonna learn with recommending those unauthorized streaming sites.

Meth already put out a warning in the last thread. He gonna lock this up

I pay $100 for Comcast/xfinity cable (espn/cnn/hbo) with HD DVR and Blast internet.

Ask them to hook you up.
You can always go to direct tv or At&t uverse.

call your company, ask for an account specialist and threaten to cancel it.

you'll get a lower bill

 I hate when people say this.

Almost as bad as when people are constantly threatening to sue.

Aint nobody gonna do all that for a $5 credit on next months bill.

Waiting on that HBOGo standalone subscription. Anyone got any updates on that?

For what you get, even $100 is a bit much. Its ridiculous what cable companies charge, especially when there's a million other ways to get the content you want without as many ads.

I just don't have that in me. I've tried but I gets nothing more then a $5 credit or they call my bluff and start asking for information to terminate the contract and I always end up just hanging up like a straight *****.

OP if you can call them to get a promotional internet offer, send them back their modem and buy your own from best buy.

I've been paying $40 for internet for over a year now.

yeah you would think that but its literally one phone call. its almost too easy. the only difference is that I dont bluff, im ready to cancel.

these satellite companies are desparate to keep customers these days.

I'm about to cancel soon. Paying $170 for something I barely use is ridiculous.

What are my options as far as internet only? I'm with FIOs now and I figure that's probably the best internet I'm going to get in my area. Do they gouge when you go the internet only route?

I was going to walk in, but i remember when I walked in 2 years ago and canceled, the ladies were straight up stone cold like....hell I get paid hourly anyway you can go if u want.

I have CONcast.. those dudes are the absolute worst.  The technicians are 3rd party so CONcast can slither their way out of lawsuits... the service centers do not have direct phone numbers so you can't get any local help unless you go to the shop.  The modems they provide for the most part are Gateway 1s and 2s which are ****** and  most likely prevent users from reaching the speeds customers pay for.

Good advice, save money and most likely increase speeds.

However, if you have telephone service make sure the modem has the phone jack connection.  Most of the newer high speed modems no longer have it.
