such is the story of every chris paul playoff team. he puts up efficient stats with not enough actual impact. he will single handedly win a few games here and there leading fanboys to start up the top 5 all time chants again but then he follows up with lackluster 20 points on 7/12 shooting games where he doesnt lead his team to a victory but doest get blame because he played safe and efficient.

two clippers wins chris paul has scored 32 and 34

ignoring the 40 point blowout game

2 very close spurs wins where chris paul scored 19 and 21

pretty clear to see that if chris paul stepped it up and was more dominant in the two losses the clippers would not be in this position today.

When I say the Spurs are a better team, to me it means that they outplayed us and, therefore, everyone on the Clippers, including CP, needed to play better. That's not holding him blameless. I've often said that the team is best when he's aggressive offensively and faulted him for being passive too often. That applies here too. That said, he shouldn't have to score 30 each game for us to beat the Spurs. Point is, he will get blame.

fair enough

i just hate the phrase "____ was the better team" makes it seem like the fact is set in stone and there's nothing the losing team could have done to change the outcome.

makes it seem like losing is okay because it's expected

He can score 30 and should be held to that standard. He's one of the best of all time, right? No reason for him to just be going through the motions not being aggressive from the get go. Nobody can check him on the Spurs. I don't even believe the Spurs are much better if at all. They are just far more poised mentally down the stretch of these close games and that's been the difference.

That's been a problem all season. They've had trouble closing close games against tough teams. Not a good thing when you're playing the most poised, experienced team in the league. But, yeah, a lot of that has to fall on CP. He's best equipped to be the team's closer and hasn't been delivering consistently.

Oh, and you won't find any posts from me calling him one of the best of all time. He's great. I still think he's the best all-around PG playing today, but I've never claimed he was top 5 all time or anything like that.

a lot of cp slander comes from non basketball watching stat nerds posting a few ERAs to "prove" cp's greatness then being ghost when he comes up short leaving clippers fans to defend the poor guy.

funny that people "smart" enough to understand 234 different metrics cant see that the only important stat is winning

Chris Paul has probably been the best player in the series on either team.  Sometimes that's not enough against the a team like the Spurs. and sometimes you got Blake fumbling and bumbling the game away in the clutch

Spurs bench is vastly superior but everything else is on point

He wasn't the best player in Game 2, 3 and 5 and that's a major reason they lost.
