^ simmons always had smart guest to buffer him.. think Zach lowe..

people who legit knew what they were talking about and could calm down or give a rational opinion to whatever he was going on about.. even jalen did this to an extent when talking about basketball, because he would explain things aren't as simple as the average joe blow fan thinks it is (essentially bill's whole shtick)

that's what he's missing now at the ringer.. Lombardi just feeds into bill's crap.. and then he's had his friends mostly on the pods

I didn't think I would enjoy 1961-1962 NBA MVP talk as much as I did, we need more.

+1 on the sportcenter arm wrestling competition.

Why do you keep listening to Bill's pod and read his columns?

I didn't know they held Lisa Kerney's ripped arms and arm strength in such high regard. Then they remembered that Sarah Spain's thick self existed.

Sarah Spain would dominate the women's bracket.

Izzy vs Russillo final in the non athlete division.

Spain must be real fun in bed. She was just on ath and talked about the term screaming eagle on urban dictionary.

Only pods I've listened to recently are the movie hall of fame ones and skipped to jacko portion of another recent one

I've been to the ringer when I saw something referenced about the eagles, that's it

Tony Gonzalez is leaving The NFL Today after three seasons

SI.com has learned Tony Gonzalez is leaving The NFL Today after three years with the network. CBS hired Gonzalez in February 2014 as an analyst. The move then was part of a larger rebrand of the show, with the network opting not to bring back Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe. Gonzalez said he made the decision, and cited family and travel as his main reasons.

“I have had an incredible and rewarding three years at CBS and wish it could be more, but traveling to New York each week during the season is not what is best for my family at this time,” Gonzalez said in a statement provided by CBS Sports. “While I hope to remain in broadcasting I will look to do so in the L.A. area. I can't thank CBS enough for their support.”

Jim Miller: ESPN will lay off 40-50 employees, all but a few on-air personalities should be nervous

ESPN guru Jim Miller appeared on the SI media podcast in an episode published Thursday and offered some details into the upcoming round of layoffs (which will reportedly affect only on-air talent) at the Worldwide Leader.

Asked by SI’s Richard Deitsch about the scope of the layoffs, here’s what Miller had to say:

"The way that I’ve heard it—and I’ve kind of run the numbers on it, I think we’re looking at between 40 and 50 people. The numbers that some people reported about $80-90 million were probably ridiculous by a factor of three, but if you think of it in terms of 40-50, I think that’s a safe range based on what I’ve been talking to people about.

And look, there’s a lot of uncertainty about who it’s gonna be and why. Remember, this is not quantum physics, so it’s not an exact equation."

Miller then mapped out what he expects weekdays on ESPN will look like based on deals the network has already made, saying that these personalities can feel safe but that everyone else might need to sweat a bit.

6 a.m. — Re-air of Neil Everett and Stan Verrett’s SportsCenter from the night before
7-10 a.m. — Mike Greenberg’s newly announced show, which, as Miller points out, will feature only one on-air personality
10 a.m.-noon — First Take, presumably still featuring Stephen A. Smith, Max Kellerman and Molly Qerim
Noon-1 p.m. — A widely rumored but yet-to-be-unveiled show featuring Bomani Jones and Pablo Torre
1-6 p.m. —”The normal kind of coverage of what they’re doing, and Around the Horn and PTI
6 p.m. — SC6 with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith
Evening — Live sports
11 p.m. — SportsCenter
Midnight — Scott Van Pelt’s SportsCenter show
1 a.m. — Everett and Verrett’s SportsCenter show

“If you’re ESPN talent and you’re looking at a schedule that’s something like that, based on the commitments they’ve made, if you’re not on that, then you’re starting to feel a little shaky,” Miller said. “That’s not to say everyone else is gone, but I think those are the people that should take a deep breath, and those are the people that should feel immune.”

Greg Bedard is the latest prominent NFL writer laid off from Sports Illustrated

When Sports Illustrated launched Peter King’s The MMQB football vertical in 2013, one of the earliest and most prominent hires was Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe, who was brought on even before the site had an official name. Fast forward to 2017, and now Bedard has been let go. He announced the move on Twitter Thursday:

A little personal business: as part of another downsizing at SI, I will soon be a cap casualty and a free agent. It is what it is. — Greg A. Bedard (@GregABedard) March 30, 2017

As Bedard noted, SI also cut Don Banks and Jim Trotter in the recent past.

Those stupid mf'ers. Nobody wants a 3 hour show with the most boring human being in the world, greenberg. They're idiots if they're taking Jaymee Sire bae off tv in the mornings. I hope their ratings continue turning to crap.

KD sounded irritated with OKC's team building strategy of trading away players on expiring contracts for younger talent.

Damn that doofus Greenberg getting that slot with his new show means no more SportCenter AM and no more Jaymee Sire.

7am-10am is ridiculous. That lame doesn't need 3 hours. he's gonna be on almost as long as the today show.

If Jaymee and Sarina are some of the ones that espn fires I'm gonna drive to Connecticut and stomp on greenberg's face.
