Anyone ever buy a car on Craigslist? Vol. Return of the Lucky Luchiano Car Thread

Everything Frank said an of course a color is gonna be cheaper vs another when nobody wants that color. Car color that is neutral will sell faster.

I should hopefully have a new VW by this weekend, trying to negotiate best price right now.

I'm not the most experienced regarding the mechanics of cars, but I like my 2012 Passat. It is slow, but handles well, has solid fuel economy and is one of the bigger sedans you can get. Baseline.

I think OP needs to decide what he needs in a car before anything. And I'm not talking about features like blue tooth. I mean things like gas mileage, all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, suv, small-medium-large sedan. I think that's what's most important. Where are you from OP? When I bought my first car years back in college to get back and forth between my co-op job I knew that I needed a car that could get me to work no matter what so all wheel drive was 100% necessary so I got a 2007 Audi A4 for a good deal on Craigslist. Other than having to get the fuel pump replaced thing ran until 180k and then i gave it to my little sister who is still driving it today.

Cop a CPO Audi A4 :pimp:

If you're going to go CPO on a luxury entry level sedan I say BMW or Mercedes. Although I'll take quarto over xdrive and 4matic, Mercedes and Even more so BMW have a more mature "executive" feel on the inside that you won't get from lower end models like the a4 or the a3 for that matter. But that's just me. I'm all about sporty but keep that on the details on the outside which I feel like BMW and Mercedes do.

I copped both my cars from Craigslist.

2001 Honda Civic which i already got rid of.

and now still riding with 2005 TL for the last 2 years. No major problems since.:smokin

Been negotiating on a 2015 Camry SE and LE, gonna go in today, i already have financing from my bank, but going to see if i can get hem to knock another few hundred off. Wish me luck brehs.

Im kinda torn, i got 7k, and i see 2015 base model Jettas going for 15-16500, 7k down would give me a sweet note and i can pay it off in 3yrs maybe 4 and not have to worry about maintance issues since it would be under warranty entire time i finance and still would have power train after i pay off. I could buy a car cash and the money id use for a note put it in a savings account, but im grown and dont have time for random issues happening and it taking time to fix or even buying a 7k car and having something like a ****** go bad and it costing 2-3k to fix.

Most my friends and fam are saying just buy new/used with warranty left just to avoid headaches.

If I was you I'd cop a Hyundai Sonata .. and I'm dead serious

I looked at those too, ironically they had similar reliability ratings to the VW, but i know cost of maintance is less. How ever price wise the Camry was better from my research. The only thing better than the Camry on paper was the aaccord but a used accord cost more than the new camry lol

if you or your fam has a costco membership, you can use the costcos auto buying program, it took ~4K off my 14' Prius.

haggling is a huge waste of time if the vehicle is selling fairly well.

Toyota's rating have been down recently haven't they?

new CRV crushes the new RAV4 in ratings

the new Gen Camrys aint the move, Accords are nice but dont wanna have a note over 200 bucks.

and I peeped VWvortex and didnt see anything bad, my boy has a VW and put like 25k a yr miles on it (highway) and no issues lol, I work from home half the week and drive highway the other days so it won't get much wear.
Ignore that man. Jettas aren't bad, but there's no point in buying a brand new one, the 2014 run the same for less, so you don't take that L on initial depreciation. Also in that range I recommend looking at the Passat; its a way better car for the money.
P.S. this isn't the early 2000s, Honda is weak and Toyota is only slightly less weak. Reliable and safe cars are all over the market, the JPN manufacturers don't have much else to go on.

um my jetta was a 2012 it wasnt a base either

why would i be talking about a 04?

the current have a new engine i know a lot about vws and ppl in the community as i am a big VAG fan (volkswagen automotive group), like i said go to vw vortex.....the engine i had was very reliable prob the most reliable as far as VWs, now if you get a new one they are turbos again and new engine an you should check out forums first, how long do you plan on keeping this car and like i said a base jetta will not hold value at all, youre coming from a camry to a vw an im sure you dont wanna deal with maintenance either youre not even a car guy lucky

its your money though bro, you literally spend hundreds a month as a foodie and you go hard on supplements

youre better off getting a used honda than a new jetta base model imo

TF this got anything to do with anything?
