Why Black people are so good at sports vol. Startling revelations

So y'all are telling me it's not because we have a couple extra muscles in our legs?

i recall hearing that in the early 20th century jews were some of the best basketball players in the US. The reason for this in America appears to be the same as for blacks: growing up in a difficult environment where one of the few opportunities to "get out" is sports.

Centered in New York, Jews were crucial to the development of college and professional basketball during the first half of the 20th century.

Wasn't there a time not to far ago when whites were considered superior in all aspects including athletically. Then Jesse Owen came in this ***** and blew the top off that theory. If I remember correctly they had dude tested and all that and concluded the reason for his success and other blacks is cause they're closer to primates than their white counterparts [emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji]. I think it's all BS rooted in racism and prejudice.

Yes, it was BS rooted in racism and prejudice but there was a reason for it. Keep in mind it was 1936 with the Olympics being held in Berlin, Nazi Germany. Admitting that the black dude won because he's better in any sense would be to undermine the ideology needed to fight the looming war. So comparing Owens to a monkey was a good excuse at the time to maintain the public's sense of superiority as a master race and overall morale.

Reminds me of freshmen year of college, class watched something about race and sports. Topic of why blacks are faster than all other races.

So congoids are known for quick, short bursts of energy, whereas caucasoids are known for their endurance?

another common misconception. It's better to be middle class an abover to be a basketball player. money helps up to a certain point but the otivation that comes from being poor is a non factor.

Contrary to popular perception, poverty and broken homes are underrepresented in the NBA, not overrepresented. For example, while 45 percent of black male children in the U.S. live in households earning no more than 150 percent of the poverty line ($22,050 for a family of four in 2010), just 34 percent of black athletes in the NBA grew up in that financial situation,

Nice breakdown and point of view.

Do you happen to still remember where you've read this? I'm interested in reading up on it.

It wasn't always like this however at least not until major corporations got involved. I remember seeing a stat (prolly from the same article) that in the 60-70s close to 90% of the NBA was from Urban areas.

Also, you can't really make sweeping generalizations from a quote without looking at how the research was done. For instance, yes the federal poverty line makes it easy for research purposes but in actuality it is way off and severely outdated. You can be above the fed. poverty line by a good amount and still be in poverty. So because only 34% of black NBA players came from "govt classified poverty" doesn't mean that A LOT more of them didn't come from actual poverty.

Nowadays, I do agree that you need more money to play AAU, travel, etc. but I think SES still plays a heavy part because of a lower barrier to entry and lack of other areas of entertainment.

Its a cultural not necessarily biological. Minorities are pushed by social construct to play sports and entertain rather than focus on books and gain self-consciousness.  Not one race or ethnicity is superior physically in any aspect. pseudo-science bs.

I wouldnt say its all a social construct. You essentially make do with what you have. And for alot of black/urban kids alot easier to find a basketball and a basketball court that it is to find a place that not only provides them with the proper tools to gain knowledge but also an environment to cultivate intellectual growth.

Would this be the same logic to explain as to why we see mostly mongoloids prospering in lab, hospital, research, and tech settings?

They use 150% of the poverty line to account for that.

the research isn't all that complex it's basic math and pretty compelling. http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/6777581/importance-athlete-background-making-nba

money>motivation

thats why the most basketball players come from places withe large black middle class populations.

If by mongoloid you mean "asian"I think thats why SOME find success in those fields. As an engineer ive worked in a lot of technical fields, but specifically the production of medical devices which is a cross section for many disciplines. Ive worked with 3 asian people in my 7 years as an engineer. In fact id say that most of the asian people that I have met through schooling and through my career that were in those fields were also wealthy. Id say that has more to do with it than anything.

Dominicans and Cubans in baseball > everybody
The Japanese are good and they're fairly new to baseball. I think it's a Cutural thing, basketball is just a big thing in urban youth and it's perceived as the more exciting sport. I actually saw a documentary about runners in Ethiopia and all the runners said they had to walk hella far to get to school so they all think running comes easy to them because of that, and it's an opportunity to get out of poverty if they honed their abilities, thus giving them more drive than there other counterparts.

So you wouldn't attribute the success that mongoloids have seen in said fields would be due to hard work, determination, and focus? Or even child rearing of the student?

Instead what you see is the wealth of a mongoloid student's family as the reason behind their success?

No thats not the case at all. Working hard definitely has a lot to do with it. But when youre wealthy and have all the resources at your finger tips, as well as the environment that wealth can provide to make your hard work more "effective" it absolutely makes a difference. I personally didn't know of any "started from the bottom" asians or have come across any in school or line of work. Not to say they dont exist.

Edit: Im just saying that "we see mostly mongoloids prospering in lab, hospital, research, and tech settings" isnt completely factual. These fields arent most asian from my experience. and the ones that I have met came from wealthy backgrounds.

I understand.

That is definitely just one small percentage of Asians that you have encountered, judging from what you have said.

I do say that because I've known many Asians working in different hospitals that were born and raised in third world countries that don't have the opportunities presented to even the poorest of American citizens, yet they were able to prosper in their respective fields. Each and every one of them have told me that they were able to get to where they are today because they were born with their backs against the wall.
