Dominican Republic to be 'Socially Cleaned' in today

All of a sudden if we are of a darker shade and want to be identify as Latino, we automatically hate the color of our skin....there is no need to state the obvious, a black Latino is black, a white Latino is white, I legit have no clue where I would even fall in the spectrum since I'm not white or black....I'm lost bruhs, for those experts on NT what should I identify as?...since is sooooooo black and white with us?

You act like I don't know all of that.

That still makes no sense to me why someone would even acknowledge it.

"Well it's in my blood so I have to."

I just think it's so messed up that racist people run Central/South America and parts of the Caribbean.

Those are the last places people should have to deal with that BS.

Steezy you're Colombian right? Look at what they are doing to their "undesirables". Got extermination squads hunting people. Most those people are dark.

People in the US, Central, South America, DR and PR need to break the mental shackles.

My uncle black as the darkest night, my aunt and all her family are from the coast and they are black as well, they not outchea hiding in bunks in fears of being exterminated....they living life just like any other Colombian, racism exists, YES...EVERWHERE, even in Africa....that's just part of life and I don't think this will ever change...as a race that deals with prejudice, is not very nice to go on tantrums judging Latinos, mocking us and such because we identify as not white or black but Hispanic...yeah is not a race, but that's simply what all Latinos identify as, we are like the grey area in race....let us be great.

Who's mocking you?

I'm just trying to understand this mentality of acknowledgement of the oppressors lineage. Don't think I will ever understand that.

Every African American whose ancestors were slaves could claim to be mixed but we don't.

I didn't say they were killing any dark person they see but killing people because you find them "undesirable" shouldn't be tolerated.

It can definitely change. Gotta break the mental shackles and not let those racist people run the government.

Not mocking me directly, at least not yet, at least not on race...but that boy Ninja has become the running joke of all race threads simply because he wanted to recognize solely as Hispanic.

Serious question here.. ya all know what I look like, what should I identify as, since I can't claim to be simply Latino? Can someone help me out?...what I'm I allow to be?

Or he can just live his life do what the hell he wants, identify with whatever race he wants and not get angry over the past....

There is a laundry list of what us Black Americans can start doing also to break mental shackles...starting with black women and thier obession with nasty stank weaves skin lightning and blue/green contact lenses thinking its what true beauty is....

Till then I think its wise to worry about your own people...whoever they may be

I don't give a flying **** what you people choose to label yourselves all I ask if that you acknowledge the obvious bigotry based on color that is pervasive in your culture. We have the same problem in this nation. We dance around the real issues.

What do you mean, "you people"?

No seriously, what people I'm I or the likes of me? :nerd:

Haitians have been getting lynched and tortured in dr for years. And the sad part is it's the darkest blackest Dominicans that are theeeeee most racist. How that makes sense u hav no idea

Where did you get this info?

I lived in dr for seven years when I was younger. I have witnessed with my own eyes how Haitians get treated over there. They use them for hard labor and pay them nothing. I witnessed a Haitian tied to a tree and beaten within an inch of his life. Luckily a lady and a well known man in town stepped in and saved the guys life

You can try and purify a race all you want. 90% of that island is Afro Latino of African ancestry. Meaning you're black!!!! We just black folk that speak Spanish plain and simple

I don't know where the article got the racist part. I think it's more of "nationalcist", there's a difference. A lot of Dominicans are black. The country of Dominican Republic in my opinion is already as poor as is. It just wants to protect its own citizens and minimize poverty for its own and to have illegal immigrants stop stealing jobs and living off tax payer money.

I never lived but visited the country more times than I can count, have chilled with Haitians in the capital, usually the guys that serve tourists at the usual hang out spots, they seem happy, yeah they work hard, that's a given, you can say they often get the treatment some immigrants get here...is not nice at all...but I wouldn't jump the gun and fully blame it on race ALONE....if that was the case, they would be lynching and stone beating a lot of actual Dominicans....it has a lot to do with an invasion of the land as of lately, over crowding and over producing, DR is not rich in resources, health care sucks and Dominicans have it hard enough accounting for their own poverty, to now also having to care for the Haitian immigrants....yes racism exists, but let's stop the all this "Dominicans hate Hatians because of the color of their skin" nonsense.

Nah is RACISM AND RACISM ONLY.

Black Dominicans are exempt, selectively racists towards Haitians.

That sounds so silly.

That awkward moment when you realize you might be racist. Nah. There was a message in there Steezy, you just have to paddle through my ignorance to get to it.

Left my paddles at home bruh, save me because I'm drowning...where do I fit in, in this very black and white race spectrum you guys speak of.

They know damn well dark skin comes from Africans considering how many African slaves were sent there. The Carribean had more African slaves than America because sugar was a more labor intensive plant than cotton. Far more slaves died making sugar than picking cotton. The tainos died off relatively quick. 1/3 of the population died in 20 years. 50 years in there were hardly any left because they weren't immune to smallpox like the whites were.

Claiming dark skin comes from the natives that were almost extinct by 1550 is laughable when African slaves were being imported much longer than that.

As for dude claiming he never hears it irl I highly doubt it. I don't know any Dominicans who aren't tired of this argument not to mention all the youtube videos of people claiming or denying their blackness.
And many Egyptian slaves died building the pyramids but they call themselves Egyptians today not black or Africans.

Again this is only a argument on Nt.
I'm late on this, but that is a terrible comparison to what Blotters said

So after reading through all of this, now let me get this straight as a Hispanic I can not claim Latino/Hispanic because it has a correlation to Spain correct??

so it appears.

But then why claim black if Africans coming to those lands has an even more direct correlation to Spain cuz didn't they bring them over. Wouldn't it bring the same "pain"

What needs to be understood is us Hispanics dwell on the positive and make the best of everything and also celebrate anything and everything , and understand that we need the mix of everything Spaniards Africans and Native people to make us who we are and without any of them we wouldn't be us. And we accept it and get it

But that's where you are wrong, Dark skinned Dominicans are being violated by this law as well. People who were born there in the last 80 years, not just people who crossed the border are being denied citizenship. Almost all of them are dark-skinned, this isn't just Haitians here. Dark skinned people have been getting killed for years in DR, this is fact please do your research. Whites were brought in to "whiten" the population of DR during the 30s. Straight from Wikipedia about the Dominican president of 1938
Trujillo was known for his open-door policy, accepting Jewish refugees  from Europe, Japanese migration  during the 1930s, and exiles from Spain following its civil war. He developed a uniquely Dominican policy of racial discrimination, Antihaitianismo  ("anti-Haitianism"), targeting the mostly-black inhabitants of his neighboring country and those within the Platano Curtain, including many Afro-Dominican  citizens. His ideology to whiten the race has created a huge phenomena in denying blackness in the Dominican communities, especially when they migrate to the United States.
All racism is wrong, no matter what the country or race. The message has been lost among arguments about identity, to the point where some people are actually defending the Dominican government on this law.
