By the way I'm not a lawologist or anything but I'm pretty sure a verbal contract is legally binding

http://thelawdictionary.org/article/is-a-verbal-agreement-legally-binding/

"Verbal agreements and oral contracts are generally valid and legally binding as long as they are reasonable, equitable, conscionable and made in good faith."

"The reason oral contracts and verbal agreements are often looked warily upon is that they tend to present difficulties when it comes to enforcement. "

"When oral contracts are taken to court, there is always a risk of one of the parties lying about the terms of the agreement. In some cases, all parties may choose to be dishonest about the terms of the contract and thus create a legal impasse for the courts."

@EarldaGoat  pls bless us bruh.

so what is the point of having 10 days between free agency starting and allowing players to actually sign?
Nothing.

Nba needs to dead that

Should just start free agency on july 1
THIS. Or shorten it to like 5 days. 10 is OD.

Legally binding when theres proof of such agreement, without such then its all hearsay and typically doesnt hold up in court. I'm not an attorney so I'm sure theres more @lawdog1  school us sir.

from what i heard, DJ went to Doc and said he regretted his decision from the go. Like I mentioned days ago, his agent was the guy who practically made DJ agree to go to Dallas. Its not this silly spat with CP3.

I dont blame the CLippers for going after him, you kidding me? This is a business. Without him, that franchise is going down hill fast, and Doc would be fired within a year or two. Just a matter of time before Ballmer blames everything on Doc.

I can't believe DJ is that powerful when it comes to one organization.

Marc J. Spears [emoji]10004[/emoji]@SpearsNBAYahooThe Clippers are trying to meet with DeAndre Jordan before he goes out of country on a vacation tomorrow, a source said

DJ is the an absolute beast and he's going to continue to get better under the right tutelage. I'm hoping he stays.

This is so hilarious. If this thot really comes back to the guy that hurt his feelings I'm gonna have to get my Finally Famous on and dig some quotes up.

All this is technically true of contracts generally, but here you also have the complicating factor of league rules and the CBA. Those rules dictate that FA contracts can't be signed until a certain date and could potentially override the general legal principle that oral contracts can be binding. In other words, per league rules, no FA contract is binding until the moratorium is lifted.

Plus, with service contracts, even if binding, when they're breached the remedy isn't to force the person to do what they signed up for (or, "specific performance" in legal terms) -- that looks too much like forced servitude, which the law frowns upon. Rather, its the payment of damages. So, bottom line, from a legal standpoint, even if DJ's verbal commitment to Dallas can be considered a binding contract, there's no way he can be forced to play for the Mavs if he really doesn't want to.

To really sum it up with a very technical legal term, this is just a ****** up situation all the way around.

thot lulz.

all my clipper fan friends were straight sh****** on DeAndre talkin bout good riddance and dont have to deal with hack-a-jordan no more, actin like scorned exes. I hope he returns to the Clips just to see the 360 lulz from Clipper fans.

Clippers are only breaking an "unwritten rule," not anything they can be sued for. Trust me, they did their due diligence before even trying to make this happen.
