Cleveland Cavaliers reach out to free agent Tayshaun Prince

FRESNO, Calif. – In an effort to shore up wing depth, the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached out to the representatives of free agent small forward Tayshaun Prince, league sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group.

With the free-agency period beginning, conversations up to this point have been described as exploratory, sources say.

Prince, 35, played for Memphis, Boston, and Detroit last season and averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and shot 46 percent from long distance.

The 6-9 wiry forward is still a defensive presence on the perimeter and would serve as a replacement to Shawn Marion who never made an impact on the court in his final season in the league.

At this juncture in the free-agency period, the Cavaliers have other matters to tend to before filling out the roster. Prince and the Cavaliers will resume dialogue at a later time, I'm told.

Imagine what a guy like Bruce Bowen could've got in today's market

Easily $13-15M just by being an elite defender and 3 point shooter.

LeBron loves washed up players past their prime.

Portland paying $7.5M a year for a wing player that shot 28% from 3 in his career. Versatile defender, but damn  . I was thinking he was more so MLE money

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Also hearing Mavs have split up their recruiting posse and are conducting two meetings at present: One with DeAndre; one with Wes Matthews

Lol at this. He's not terrible at all though, let's be realistic here.

Amin Elhassan @AminESPN
That's the impact of Aminu deal: not that he got overpaid (he did), but that now everyone else will point to that & say "im better than HIM"

Washington and Cleveland are pursuing Mike Dunleavy Jr., but Chicago remains frontrunner with his Bird rights, league sources tell RealGM.

When's the last time a guy that age got the MLE

Plus 7.5 really isn't that much more than the MLE anyway, especially when the cap rises

Still can't even imagine the kid would get that much when he was hitting a wall
