I really like Draxler.  He has a Toure vibe to him.

Just remembered that Real are still paying Martin Odegaard around £80,000-a-week to practise with them

English clubs, just like many have stated here, are at the mercy of the FA. Scheduling is a big issue.
When you look further than that, it's as if the FA looks for scapegoats as to why they don't do well. Take how they view foreigners on EPL clubs. As if that is the issue. The youth academies in other countries are so much stronger and more well established. Take a look at Germany, they groom footballers like it's nothing. Seems like Germans are created in a lab sick.gif
Spain, there is a reason each of the teams in La Liga have had a lot of recent success in tournaments. Emphasizing and prioritizing skill, rather than crossing the ball in hopes someone is there to retrieve it.
France, their future looks so bright with a lot of young talent that they have at their disposal. Just look at the team they'll be fielding for the Euros mean.gif

Nope they aren't even subs. Both still nursing injuries.

The Otamendi deal looks really smart right now other wise we would be trying to get Denayer back from Galatasaray early :lol

Damn laugh.gif

Otamendi's looked inconsistent these last few games imo. Still waiting on how him and Kompany pair up,should be one of the better partnerships in the league when healthy.

I agree with what all that. I said similar things months ago. The English national team and English players will never improve as long as the FA still believes they are the world leaders in football. One of the biggest thing hurting youth development is the stupid bloody English tax that clubs like to put on English players. This is hurting the development more then anything else. I think Mourinho spoke about it when he signed Azp. Chelsea were interested in Shaw and that was his childish club, but due to English tax Chelsea didn't sign him. Why pay #0m gpb when you can get the same quality player from Spain for 7

The Xabi/Illara Spanish/Basque/Sociedad connection and mentorship didn't work out for Real

But I have higher hopes for the Croatian connection of Modric and Kovacic

Yeah he looks like he's still settling but by the time he does Kompany should be back and the two of them together are clearly the choice for the best pair at the back.

People make all these excuses for English teams, like how does "the English tax" effect the output of teams? They still have plenty of money and finances. And a lot of top teams barely field anyone English in their best XI unless they're actually capable of balling.

You just said yourself Mou went and got Azpi or whatever instead of Shaw. So what's your point...he got a currently better player and saved money. That's a good thing. But there's no logical connection between that and Chelsea's underperformance. And United didn't have to get him, they could have just gotten someone else (although if dude gets his act together he should pan out, ether way Man U have crazy amounts of money so it doesn't matter how much they dropped.)

The "English tax" thing imo effects lower clubs more who need to meet a quota and show that they still have a connection to their fan base. But at the top, aside from having a dude like Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Stevie G on your team...people just care about winning.

Unless there's something I'm missing idk.

And then people love talking about the no winter break thing. It's like people find one difference then point to that as a main reason for underperformance. It's a poor attempt at oversimplifying something. If English sides had a break nothing would change about their performance in Europe. I hate when people focus on that.
What's wrong with accepting that these things fluctuate? Years ago before the English European run of success, Italian teams and Serie A were performing like La Liga is right now. No one league/country stays on top indefinitely.

Actually it clearly effects their performance. Why do you think English clubs tend to suffer in CL in the knockout stages.
