I got Starks as my backup 2, maybe 11th man  . Really no risk in taking him at that point, but he will definitely be able to win my squad some games when he's not shooting us out of it  . He just adds more defense and toughness to the depth chart.

Between Payton, Artest, Christie, Starks and Mason, I'm ready for any scorer.

..... was gonna try to work in a mom joke somehow but didn't want to be rude

carry on

How is GR8 gonna write a 19 page manifesto to Big J then tell him that he was just kidding?

*confused face*

If he wasn't serious then that was the longest "not serious" post in NT History.
Look like it took 3 nights to write.
That's some serious commitment to get a reaction out of J.

And if you think that's a long rant by GR8,you haven't spent enough time in the Knicks thread. That's like the opening paragraph of his normal speeches

It's impressive.

I've never had the oppurtunity to type against GR8. :frown:

I'm not very good at this Niketalk thing. :smh:

NT All-Time NBA Redraft Strategy

Preface:
Credit to dland24 for drafting the idea of an all-time redraft, and kudos to CP1708 for running it. I definitely know the rigors of running a NT redraft. The beauty of including every player in professional basketball history is the wealth of options. Everyone can build a team in their individual vision. High-scoring, defensively stout, modern, etc. Even taking players on sentiment is perfectly acceptable. Did D’Angelo Russell deserve to be taken in an all-time redraft? Probably not, but it made FinallyFamous happy so who cares. This process wasn’t about pleasing people, it was in good-natured fun for basketball enthusiasts. I’m hoping that the debate and discussion that ensues is not only productive and positive, but enjoyable for all.

Round 1, Pick 2: Michael Jordan, SG/SF.
Let’s be honest, I got lucky. Everyone including myself expected awwsome to take MJ. I was ready to “settle” for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, or Bill Russell. I was definitely leaning towards the first two aforementioned players. As much of a defensive force Russell was for Boston, his offensive game was not quite on the level of Chamberlain or Abdul-Jabbar, who were both also beyond defensively adequate. I couldn’t pass on Jordan. Largely accepted as the greatest player of all-time. Ultimate competitor, elite scorer, and also defensively responsible on the perimeter.

Round 2, Pick 59: Nate Thurmond, PF/C.
Nate Thurmond is in my opinion one of the most underrated players in basketball history. Elgin Baylor closely behind, shocking he went 37th in Round 2. Thurmond was a rugged intimidator and one of the best defensive interior presences in history. Although he doesn’t get the recognition Chamberlain and Abdul-Jabbar do. Thurmond’s in a similar tier defensively to Russell, arguably with better offense. For 6’11’’, he could even shoot the ball pretty well.

Round 3, Pick 62: Robert Parish, C.
Maybe a tad bit early for Parish, but I definitely wanted to lock down the PF and C positions within the first three rounds. Despite the fact many in the redraft felt center was extremely deep historically. 4-time NBA champion, three that truly mattered. Agile for a 7-footer. “The Chief” was a strong defender and could shoot well for a center. I wanted Thurmond and Parish to be interchangeable in terms of defensive responsibility and floor spacing offensively.

Round 4, Pick 119: George Mikan, C.
I’m likely going to swap Mikan into the starting lineup in place of Parish. Can’t believe he dropped to 119th overall. Couldn’t pass on the value despite already solidifying the PF and C positions. Fluid and coordinated for a center. Classic hook shot. You see another trend, he was an above average defender, talented shot blocker. Bit of a pioneer for the big men to follow his generation.

Round 5, Pick 122: Hal Greer, SG.
Another player I find to be criminally underrated in basketball history. I constantly go back in my mind hypothetically whether I’d rather have Hal Greer or Sam Jones as my all-time starting SG. Moot point because Jones went 99th early in Round 4. Greer contributed in a major way to dethrone Russell and the Celtics’ dominance. Showed up when it mattered most in the 1967 Playoffs with his scoring. Very good free throw shooter. Silky smooth jump shot in general. Dependable player who also provided tenacious defense from the guard position. I don’t draft players in any redraft that don’t play defense.

Round 6, Pick 179: Dolph Schayes, PF.
Like Mikan, another player I couldn’t pass on with the 179th pick. Way too late for him to be around, in my humble opinion. Early superstar, excelled at rebounding and shooting. Nearly 85% from the FT line for his career. Talk about spacing the floor, Schayes could have been a “Stretch-4” before the term was even coined.

Round 7, Pick 182: Mo Cheeks, PG.
This was partially a sentimental pick. I’m a Sixers fan and Cheeks played the better part of 10+ years in Philly. I also needed a starting point guard who doesn’t need a lot of shots. Cheeks wasn’t a very good outside shooter, but he played gritty defense and was the consummate floor general. Running a team and distributing the ball. Not enough shots to go around with Jordan, Greer, and Mikan.

Round 8, Pick 239: Jack Twyman, SF.
Another sentimental pick. Twyman was perhaps the greatest teammate in the history of sports. His relationship and what he did for Maurice Stokes. Twyman was the type of player to never seek the spotlight. Went about his business quietly, and properly. 6-time NBA All-Star and deadly shooter.

Round 9, Pick 242: Bob Dandridge, SG/SF.
Overshadowed by Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson earlier in his career, Dandridge played a crucial role in 1971 and 1978 championships. Named to the All-Defensive Team at one point too.
